There are many reasons that people don’t engage in a workout program. These reasons are what we may call “challenges” or barriers to working out.
For many new moms, these challenges may seem too much at times, that they just simply decide to give up and abandon any plan of including a post pregnancy weight loss regimen in their postnatal lives.
This happens, not just in Singapore, but the world over. With the reasons being universal, can the solutions also be applicable to all new moms, whether they reside in Singapore or not? Yes, they can!
Time Constraints
If other people who have not experienced getting pregnant and delivering a baby already have a hard time complying with their goal to keep fit and lose weight, what more a woman who has become a new mom?
A new mother no longer has complete liberty to do as she pleases, to go wherever she wants. Her baby is her top priority, as it should naturally be. However, this doesn’t mean that just because you have a new baby, you’ll have to put your own existence and needs on hold, until your child grows up.

Pregnancy can be very socially challenging as one's previous life changes drastically with the arrival of the child. Most women wish to become a positive role model for the child and try to change their social and financial life
Pregnancy and the birth of a child throughout many cultures is viewed as a gift, either from God or from any other supernatural figure that they worship. If the pregnancy is terminated for any reason or there are complications it is also viewed in a large group of cultures as a punishment, or because you did not closely follow the rules or regulations of your culture. The process, emotional, and physical stress of bearing a child places mothers and family in a position of opportunity along with placing within them great responsibility. Mothers planning to bear children ideally need to be within the healthy weight range along with being well nourished, but this is not always the case. Many mothers to be are surprised when they realize or are
When it comes down to it everyone ends up working out because it becomes a part of their everyday life style and they enjoy doing it. A person who is slightly overweight would get into the gym for weight loss and quickly see that there are many other people around working towards the same goal. Progress becomes easier when encouragement is received from others. Whether it is said or not everyone has their own motive to go to the gym, that easily separates people in this discourse community. However, it also brings unity to their own group.
The fear of childbirth is very common among many expecting parents. The thought of being able to cope with the pain, any childbirth-related injuries and even the possibility of needing a cesarean section is very intimidating for many. Not to mention everything that happens after the baby is born, such as being able to feed and nurture the child. Challenges can occur during and after pregnancy. Postpartum depression can arise after birth due to hormonal changes, psychological adjustment, and fatigue. Another challenge is breast-feeding; although it is very nourishing for your baby many women have problems dealing with this. Most parents are able to prepare themselves for pregnancy and raising a child, but what most expecting parents do
This helps the mother control weight gain as she tends to gain less weight in the first trimester. though, they had some differences in their vitamin intake as one mother took medication for prevention of malaria due to her surroundings, they both took the recommended vitamins and nutrition for healthy child development, such as vitamin B complex (folic acid), multivitamins, fruits, vegetables, and an increase intake of water to help with dehydration and constipation. They both exercised during their pregnancy, though their intensity was different. For instance, the first mother didn’t engage in any form of exercise until her second trimester due to her history of miscarriages. The sex exercise was the most shocking part for me as I believe it could potentially harm the baby if care is not taken, but she claimed it helps to prepare the birth canal for childbirth resulting in a less painful and strenuous delivery (Santrock,
Having a child can be the happiest moment of a person’s life. A sweet little baby usually gives new parents tremendous joy. That joy can be accompanied with anxiety about the baby and the responsibility the new parents are faced with. The anxiety, in most cases, fades and joy is what remains. For some new mothers, however, the joy is replaced with a condition known as postpartum depression. “Postpartum depression is a serious disorder that until recently was not discussed in public…Women did not recognize their symptoms as those of depression, nor did they discuss their thoughts and fears regarding their symptoms” (Wolf, 2010). As such, postpartum depression is now recognized as a disorder harmful to both mother and infant, but, with early detection, is highly treatable with the use of psychotherapy, antidepressants, breastfeeding, and other natural remedies, including exercise.
However, the demands put on parents by the workplace can make spending time with the family a difficult task. The technological revolution has made it possible for businesses to assign work after hours which could cut into family time. Balancing family and work is even more difficult for new parents. They must learn what it means to be a parent, maintain a healthy marriage, and continue to provide for their family. According to Kunz (2013), parents experience stress and exhaustion following the birth of their child. Kunz also mentions the responsibility parents have to aid in every aspect of their child’s development. Parents are being pulled in one direction by their infant and another by their boss. This strain can be especially difficult for new mothers who want to breastfeed. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for 6 months (who.int, 2017). If a woman returns to work quickly after giving birth, she will have difficulty breastfeeding and is at a greater risk for postpartum depression (cbsnews.com, 2017). The need for time to bond with an infant, encourage healthy development of the child, and to rest from child birth are all reasons why parental leave should be offered to all people. The need for time off after the birth of a child is not exclusive to one group. Parental leave should be offered to all types of families and business’ and the government should offer adequate assistance
Exercise adherence is complex and difficult, yet something movement professionals are dedicated to helping others achieve. Experts disagree on how to increase exercise participation and adherence among the population. “In your opinion, how do we increase exercise participation and adherence among the population?”
Blinder and Hagman (1984) interviewed six women with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa who had given birth while actively symptomatic. Most of the women reported developing better control over their symptoms during the pregnancy and were motivated by wanting to have healthy children and to be healthy themselves in order to be better caretakers. However, following the deliveries they regressed to dysfunctional eating patters, often with an increase in severity (Lemberg & Phillips, 1989).
The Family and Medical Aid Act (FLMA), of 1993, provides for 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave for certain specified events (8). Whilst one could refer to this as maternity or paternity leave if taken because of a pregnancy, this would not be strictly true. Where maternity and paternity leave are offered around the world, they are separate from any other leave due to medical or family reasons. The leave in the U.S. provided through the FLMA is also, as mentioned, unpaid. This creates a number of issues for the expectant family as, regardless of their job being safe for the time taken off, without the income it may be harder to look after the new born child as a couple of unpaid parents, than one parent not taking leave, or neither taking leave and relying on relatives to care for the child as much as possible.
This paper will examine three of the areas associated with planning a newborn child, including single parenting, concerns and expectations parents have when planning for and having a child, and financial issues that mothers face when planning a pregnancy. (Specify if you are talking about single moms or parents/couples, if talking about all of them you might want to consider narrowing your research.)
It is the number New Year’s Resolution every year. They want to know what can they do to lose weight and to lose the weight in the smallest amount of time. However, sometimes individuals do not make appropriate and healthy choice in this area. They try cleansers, fad diets, and food binging in order to achieve a fast result. These choices can lead to an individual gain all the weight back and then some or it can lead to death. The best way to lose and control an individual’s weight is to do it the old fashion way by just exercising. It’s no and’s and but’s about it. You have to exercise!!

Exercising can be a very tedious and tiring process. So much so that we usually hate to do it, but the truth is that we need to exercise. There are many excuses to not exercise, for instance, many people don’t have time or resources, or simply just don’t care. Exercising can be very exhausting but it also has multiple benefits.
