The film Mustang takes place in a remote Turkish village where five sisters- Lale, Nur, Ece, Selma, and Sonay, live with their grandmother and uncle after the death of their parents. The girls’ carefree existence takes a drastic turn when they are seen innocently playing in the water with boys after school. This seemingly harmless act incites outrage within their conservative community, leading to the sisters being subjected to strict confinement at home by their guardians, who enforce traditional gender roles and arrange marriages for them against …show more content…
They are seen hiding around the outside of the house, climbing through holes, and hitching to get out and get to the match. Their actions are a simple physical departure from their home, seeking a momentary relief from their suffocating environment. The escape symbolizes a bold assertion of agency and independence, as they reclaim control of themselves. Additionally, at 01:17:20, where the youngest sister, Lale, rebels against her sister's arranged marriage by locking her and her sister in the house and escaping from the wedding ceremony. This act of resistance is visually depicted through Lale's frantic attempts to lock everyone out of the house, pack bags, and then drive away. The denotative meaning of this scene is the girl's rejection of the marriage forced upon them, symbolizing their refusal to conform to traditional expectations imposed by the family and community. However, the scene carries deeper connotations regarding the sisters' collective struggle against the limitations placed upon them as women in a conservative society. Lale's escape represents a broader resistance against the patriarchal structures that seek to control and confine …show more content…
The sisters' playful and joyous behavior at the beach is another form of resistance. They laugh, run, and frolic in the water, reveling in the simple pleasures of childhood. Their experience at the beach is ingrained with a sense of liberation and empowerment, in this moment they can express themselves freely with no judgment or social norms. The imagery of the beach itself serves as evidence of resistance. The beach symbolizes freedom, openness, and a temporary escape from the constraints of their restrictive environment. However, the beach is just a physical location where the sisters engage in innocent joy and play. It represents a symbolic space of liberation, where the sisters can break free. This film embodies the five sisters' spirit of rebellion and resistance against social constraints in Turkey. Each one of the sisters faced their own freedom being taken away from them, like the idea of fight or flight, they all fought back hard to regain it. With the strength of sisterhood, the five girls fought back together against everything that stood in their

Gender and culture are two concepts that were principally shown throughout the film. The film revolves around Toula’s traditional Greek family and how they exemplify gender roles, gender stereotyping as well as gender stratification. This quote proves the societal repression of women by using the figure in the wallpaper as a symbol of the main character, trying to escape the pattern of her daily life. She is beginning to see that what is making her depressed is having no control over her own life, she is trapped in the routine of being controlled by her husband. This quote is also an example of societal repression of women because she wants to get out of her life, get out of the room, and away from the wallpaper. The author included her change of view of the wallpaper at night in the moonlight as a way to show that when John isn’t paying attention she sees the flaws in him and her life, and realizes how much she would like to be free. She notices that there is someone trapped in the wallpaper and she later tries to help it escape, which symbolizes her escaping her pattern and encourages more women of her time to escape as well. The author used symbolism in order for the reader to understand how unhappy the women is with her role and expectations in her daily life. Prior to this quote, the narrator describes how the nursery is one of the less extravagant rooms in the house for
The film Mad Max Fury Road is a visually stunning film set in a post apocalyptic world. It follows the stories of protagonists Max and Furiosa as they take a group of runaway wives to “the green place”. It is a very action driven film that relies heavily on visuals. One such aspect is that of costumes. The costumes are affected greatly by the harsh environment the world of Mad Max takes place in. Resources are not bountiful and the weather and climate are vastly different from the present time. In addition, societal values have changed in this world. Positions of power are determined by the access to resources and are reflected through costume. The costumes in Mad Max Fury Road expresses the positions, traits, and lifestyles that the characters possess.
Ariel, a half stripped 15 year old young lady, becomes hopelessly enamored with a human and will surrender her distinction to be with him. Ariel forsakes her family and exchanges away her voice to pick up affection and regard from a man that sees only her excellence. Without acknowledging it, the fundamental message that is delineated in the motion picture is something that is not comprehended by young ladies which demonstrates how the media controls certain thoughts to society from such a youthful age. At the point when a lady is depicted in films, she is either pursuing adoration, sexualized or a delineated as a

Sofia Coppola’s movie, The Virgin Suicides, 1999, brings to the forefront the reality of what life is like for five oppressed teenage girls living in suburbia in the mid-70’s. After examining numerous articles, a few of them made an impact on my perspective. The first of many articles is Todd Kennedy’s piece, Off with Hollywood’s Head: Sofia Coppola as Feminine Auteur. Kennedy discusses how Coppola has a tendency to lean toward directing films that cater toward females’ interest, either because of the visual imagery or women’s feelings of connectedness with the characters. The author reveals that The Virgin Suicides portrays women as becoming dominated by the environment surrounding them. The author gives an interesting point of view when he claims, “The film tells a story of the five Lisbon sisters whose identities exist only insofar as they are defined as the objects of the masculine desire” (44). Furthermore, the Kennedy asserts how the film serves as a prolonged exploration into the degree to which female characters are idealized, objectified, and defined by the image that the film- and their society- imposes upon them.
I've decided to analyze the movie Cinderella. It brings up critical human issues like justice, loyalty, and inequality. This adaption is essential because it faithfully reproduces every image. A viewer can follow the character connections in Cinderella and connect them to the ideas of resolving conflict, upholding relationships, and minimizing uncertainty. Cultural ideals like beauty, marriage, passionate love, social standing, and grandeur are all portrayed in Cinderella.
She writes in her journal her struggles and how she doesn’t want to be stuck in the house that her husband rented for three months. She writes how unfair he is since she wanted another room and the room he chose was a yellow wallpaper room. She felt uneasy due to her seeing a woman creep in this wallpaper and in the night time she saw this woman struggling to leave. In the end, she assumes she's the woman who is trapped, refuses to leave the room, and doesn’t want anyone else to enter the yellow
Also, the film revealed women empowerment and how superior they can be compared to men. While demonstrating sexual objectification, empowerment, there was also sexual exploitation of the women, shown through the film. Throughout this essay, gender based issues that were associated with the film character will be demonstrated while connecting to the real world and popular culture.
Honors English This week I watched Pleasantville with my class. This movie was very different in my opinion. I have never seen this movie before I watched it in class. I personally liked this movie a lot. It is not the type of movie that I would have wanted to first watch with my classmates.

Ramatoulaye realizes that she was obeying and depending on her husband and following the societal norms and urges all the other women to unite and be independent of a man that doesn't appreciate a woman. Also, Ramatoulaye makes a choice to be a single woman that will do anything for her children and doesn't want to be with a man like Daouda who might be rich, but has a wife already.
I lived with my father for my entire life, but due to his work I did not spend much time with him. My father worked at a different city; and thus he comes home only a few times a month. My father is a mechanic. He works at a company that is distant from our home. This was due to the company being the only one and the first where cars were being assembled in Ethiopia. Sometimes on the weekends I used to go to his work place. He would give me a trip of the place; the station was filled with vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles. It was separated by sections. In each section there were only one type of vehicle and the assembly process was shown step by step. From a fuse to large engine of the car, components were getting attached.
