I lived with my father for my entire life, but due to his work I did not spend much time with him. My father worked at a different city; and thus he comes home only a few times a month. My father is a mechanic. He works at a company that is distant from our home. This was due to the company being the only one and the first where cars were being assembled in Ethiopia. Sometimes on the weekends I used to go to his work place. He would give me a trip of the place; the station was filled with vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles. It was separated by sections. In each section there were only one type of vehicle and the assembly process was shown step by step. From a fuse to large engine of the car, components were getting attached. I remember as a kid sitting on the lap of my father, while I was holding the wheel and he was controlling the gas pedal. I asked him questions like “How does a car start?” He would answer in simple words by saying, “This car starts when we put the ignition key; the power from the battery reaches the small gears (starter motor) and the big gear (the flywheel) will meet, causing the fly wheel to start rotating: then the car starts. “How come when we step on the gas pedal the car starts moving?” “This actually happens by the clutch of the car, which is used to smoothly transfer power from the engine to the wheels. And if it is pressed forcefully, the gas pedal causes friction with the ground, making a noise. So that is why it should be stepped on gradually.” These trips not only made me learn about technology more, it made me develop a relationship with my father. This was a big triumph for me and I continued to go there. In my freshman and sophomore year I volunteered at this place. When I was volunteering my father would give me projects to repair one of the cars with him and together we would do so. Through my time at EPEI, I realized that knowing one particular subject is not enough. I favored
I've been four wheeling since I was about three. Id say its pretty fun when you're not busy crashing. My favorite thing about four wheeling is having the wind blow in my face, it makes me feel free in a way. When i'm with my family four wheeling nothing can stop us so you better watch out. My best experience while riding a four wheeler was when I was about nine my grandpa and my four year old sister were together on one four wheeler and I was on my own we were riding down the road when my grandpa said “ Aryona do you want to go down there?” i was a little scared at first, but he told me it would be okay, so i said “yes.” Once we got down there I was happy I decided to go because It was awesome! One of my favorite things about
The racecar was not the most creative or what some would call beautifully designed. But the owner and his father worked for weeks on that little wooden block to turn it into something the ten-year-old boy could be proud to race. A previous race showed what needed to be done for a car to make it in the top five. After careful designing, sanding, painting, and graphite the car was finished.
Awoken by his alarm clock, 12-year-old Jimmy Clark got up on Friday morning and began his day with breakfast.
The day started off like any average day, I took a hot shower, got dressed and got prepared for the day. It wasn’t until I sat down and started eating my bowl full of cheerios with extra sugar, that I realized what was actually happening. Today would be the day I finally bought my first car, after a year of hard work and conservative economic decisions.
Heading out the door, I look up and there it was a vehicle. A 2000 Toyota Camry positioned like a statue, as if turned to stone. Confused, I was and have stared profoundly at its glory. At that time, many questions came into my head. What is a vehicle doing outside my house? Whom is it for? When did it arrive? I was not thinking straight, so I start screaming and shouting from the top of my lungs. Considering this beauty was mine. What a surprise? My father standing next to the vehicle hands me the keys and says you deserve it for your hard work and dedication. I am amazed finally the time has arrived, my own car.
I got my car right before the beginning of summer. Brand new was not an option so I opted for a shiny-black, used Jeep Liberty. It was not in meant condition, but I was just exstatic as long as it had air conditioning that might just turn my fingers blue with frostbite. I had my car for a total of four months, however, before it became an unsightly crime scene. How did my car get wrecked one might ask? It all boils down to one decision I made. One bad choice could destroy a lot of things, so don’t let people convince you into making rash decisions. That was my mistake, and I'm still paying for it.
" Shut the car down!! You're done for the night." I have been around racing all my life and I have never witnessed something so intense. After 15 years, I am finally on a pit crew. Racing has taught me that I must be prepared for everything because one can never predict the future.
The automobile has impacted the world by faster traveling, also making it possible to go farther distances. In this society cars are used to get around but to some people, it’s a way to get around, but to some people it’s a way to express them. From loud engines to hybrids, cars mean a lot more to people than just a way to get around. It has become much more meaningful to people. It has become of a person and how they express themselves.
I opened the front door, I did not even bother knocking I practically grew up in this house, walked straight into the bedroom of Lex Blassingame. After a two hour drive I was tired, but seeing the look on her face instantly woke me up. The look of confusion, surprise, happiness, and a little hint of contentment danced across her face. I was carrying flowers that I picked from the side of the road and her favorite meal from Chick-fil-a, but that didn’t stop Lex from embracing me in the biggest hug I’ve ever felt. She needed someone. Lex had a hard and long day, I needed to make her smile. So I did. I drove two hours and four minutes just to make my only, and best, friend smile.
Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. The mathematics beyond the focus points of parabolic dishes and thermodynamics was very advanced for my age, but I took up the challenge...
My first car was brought at an auction in Pascagoula, Mississippi in February 2000. My father and I didn’t have much of abound while I was growing up in Mobile, AL. He was in the Army and I was raised by my Mother with my two sisters. When I was in High School, my mother had a massive drug overdose. She had taken three different prescription’s drugs she was taken, at the time I was helping take care of my Grandmother at her house. My younger sister was at the home with mother along and my older sister graduated from high school living in another city. My father was out the military at the time doing active Reserve duties; he would take me to my mother’s house in the mornings for school. My Sister walked in the room and discover mother in bed not breathing. She left home and ran up the highway to use pay phone to call 911. My mother made it to hospital just in time to make it and the State granted custody of my sister and me to my father.
Have you ever been riding in a tractor on the road and looked out and saw flames coming out of the tractor? Let me just say that that is quite the freaky site. One year at my grandparents U-Pick strawberry field in Helvetia, Oregon, It rained and rained and rained so much that even the four wheel drive pickup trucks got stuck, so we had to bring everybody up the driveway on/in wagons that were either pulled by four wheelers or by tractors so that there was less of a chance of getting people stuck.
It was on a Friday afternoon when we purchased the car we have today. My mom had thought it was time for a new vehicle, so we went to this place in San Juan next to Audi called Acura Rgv. When I got off and saw all the beautiful blues, whites and grays
For the first time I know that parents really worried about their kids so much and it is not a joke when I say that parents worried when their kids are missing, or they went somewhere without telling them first, when I was in high school this is when I found out that my parents worried when I don’t tell them where I am going and what I am going to do there.
I wasn 't sure if I was ready to drive, but I knew it was the next step towards adulthood. Driving is an essential tool that adults in the real world cannot life without. Learning how to drive helped shape me as a woman, but it was not easy at first trying to adjust. Driving meant that I was becoming an adult, and that I had to take responsibilities for all my actions. Thinking about that really gave me a hard time, because I was no longer my mommy and daddy’s little girl anymore. Starting at my early childhood I was forced to walk, crawl, ride a bike to get to where I needed to go. It was an experience
