Literary Analysis. I am comparing and contrasting the two main characters in the stories, The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. It seems as if the two people have schizophrenia or severe mental problems, which lead them to have major mental problems. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is a short story of a young man who lives with an old man. It starts sweet with him talking about how much he loves this old man and how much that old man loves him, but there is something odd about this man that he just doesn’t like. She writes in her journal her struggles and how she doesn’t want to be stuck in the house that her husband rented for three months. She writes how unfair he is since she wanted another room and the room he chose was a yellow wallpaper room. She felt uneasy due to her seeing a woman creep in this wallpaper and in the night time she saw this woman struggling to leave. In his story, he takes time to think about it all and ends up with the decision to kill the old man during his sleep so it's painless and without any major sound. He didn’t want the old man to find out he was going to do this, so he kept a slow, easy pace. Every night at midnight, the old man started feeling uneasy and frightened of the sounds this young man made at midnight. When the young man killed him, he cut his head, arms, and legs off. It's very disturbing, but he hides the body under the floor. He tells us how there isn't any blood to wipe or any smell so no one can try and say anything against him.
