Aw! It is winter again. Long dark nights filled with freezing cold temperatures (If you live up north. I would love to have a Florida winter). When it dips down to twenty below zero, I always feel a deep desire to hibernate inside my house until spring breaks. To make the experience more pleasurable, I have to have a nice hot bowl of homemade soup. Not just any soup, but a gluten free recipe that I love. All natural, gluten-free, dairy-free, Homemade Beef Stew is just what I am longing for. There are a few ingredients that make my beef stew scrumptious enough to come back to time and time again. How did I come across these ingredients? They were definitely not handed to me from an all natural, gluten-free recipe box. This one required blood, sweat, and tears. Countless failed recipes and years of trying to experiment finally produced this mouthwatering recipe. …show more content…
I would eat the soup and then think, "Well that was okay." My first attempts began with a spice packet. I had a friend who recommended it when I asked her for her recipe. I used the exact same spice packet as she did, and mine turned out horrifically spicy. It was so strong that it made my eyes water. I questioned her again and she advised me to use less of the packet. I tried that and it sufficed for awhile. Then, there came a day that I wanted to cook all natural. Those spice packets were thrown in the garbage, since they were loaded with MSG (monosodium glutamate). …show more content…
I hunted and searched. That effort resulted in a tomato based beef stew. This one was definitely a lot better than the spice packet version. It was all natural and did not give me MSG induced headaches. I just was not a big fan of the tomato flavor. I knew that there had to be something better out there. "Where could I find it?" I wondered. I had been trying for years, and I was ready to give
...offee mingling with that of the simmering chicken gave the dish an extra panache. I have tried substituting fireplace smoke with some success, but have been unable to duplicate the smell of the boiling coffee using that method. A wood cookstove or parlor stove topped with an old- fashioned percolator is preferable if one can be obtained. The meal should be eaten in the kitchen where it was prepared and served on a table large enough for everyone to gather around. Conversation, laughter and reminiscing should be encouraged throughout the meal, and please, no television.

Christopher McCandless’ long, fascinating, but an ultimately fatal journey into the wilderness of Alaska is depicted in the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. Late in the of summer of 1990, a very young Christopher McCandless left his ordinary world in Annandale, Virginia to pursue a solitary life in the untamed wilds of Alaska. Many will insinuate that Christopher McCandless’ actions were childish and idiotic, but a stronger argument would be that his unconventional thinking and desire to live life on his own terms allowed him to reach self-actualization.

Even though I still curl my lip at the "Easter soup" (a vile concoction of vinegar and curdled milk that's sure to trigger acid reflux), I realize that it is a valuable skill to be able to cook for yourself. To be able to cook something that you like is to have the entire culinary world in the palm of your hand. After taking cooking lessons for the first time in third grade, I was constantly on the search for new recipes. I cooked anything that sounded good--Italian food, Korean food, French food, but certainly not Polish food!
For my Thanksgiving dinner, I prepared roasted turkey with gravy sauce and cranberry sauce, mash potato, steamed rice with wild rice, steamed vegetables, including carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, pecoros onion and zucchinis, green salad, sweet pea & bacon salad, and pumpkin soup. To

Work, work, work. Students in high school have an astronomical amount of work to do in such little time. Majority of students participate in some kind of physical activity outside of school, and the school want to force them to take subordinate classes like Physical Education that will just waste time and be in place of another class that will ready them for college. Hudson High School should allow the option for students to either play one sport every year, or take two Physical Education classes because it will allow for more efficiency among the students who want to take more classes that will better ready themselves for their college major. Hudson High School does allow for a student to take two flex credits to take the place of Physical Education, but these involve the students
However, the process of deciding the menus was not as simple as everyone thinks. It took the brilliant minds of Daniel Mattern (formerly associated with Cook’s Country), and Trejo to decide on homemade salsas, mung bean tortillas, organic chopped kale salad, and vegan tacos with stuffing like black pepper tofu and fried avocado.
