Have you ever been a part of a sports team and realized how greatly it has really impacted your life? If you have, you realize that being in a sport takes a lot of initiative, commitment, and teamwork skills. Throughout my high school career here at Sturgis High School, I have been a part of the varsity basketball, varsity softball, and varsity track teams. When you decide to commit your life to being a student athlete, it comes with a lot of ups and downs. Being a part of all the teams I have been a part of has made me grow into who I am now. The different coaches and their teaching styles helped me learn that not everyone is the same. One person may coach one way, and the other may coach a completely different way. Their main goal is to help …show more content…
Being an athlete on top of being a student comes with very hard days, due to practices taking up 2 hours of your evenings, then if you have a job, that takes up even more time, leaving little time for homework. From what I have learned from being a student athlete, you need to have very good time management skills. I try to finish any homework of mine I have before school gets over, so when I am done with practice I will either have very little homework or none so I can take care of my body physically and mentally. As well as trying to have a social life on top of everything because it will help you have better mental health. In my junior and senior year of high school, I made the decision to dual sport on top of being a student. Now that was hard, 2 practices a day, after a full school day, as well as trying to manage a social life, it came with a lot of learning opportunities. What I have learned is do what's best for you, if you can only handle a little bit of exertion or stress at a time, talk to your coaches. Your coaches want to help you and if you can only do so much, they are willing to find a happy medium with
After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
There is no better place to learn the value of hard work and dedication than in a sport. Coaches have the ability to instill values into their players and shape their character. They are great mentors who offer valid advice and only want to see their athlete succeed. In an article titled “Coach, What is Your Impact?” it says that when players have a coach that is concerned not only with their athletic performance but also their genuine well b...
Athletics is not the most important part of the educational offerings at a school, it is the most visible aspect. Everything coaches do will be easily observed and under constant scrutiny. This makes a coach one of the most important role model accosicated in a child’s life. When going out for a sport, you want to have love for the game. The number one thing that is important is that the coach doesn’t make your love
Coaches train athletes to compete as a team or individually. Coaches working in high schools are responsible for coaching one or more of the school’s sports team. In larger schools one may coach one sport. These sports may be football, basketball, baseball, hockey, skiing, wrestling, soccer, and swimming depending on the school’s sports programs. High school coaches are part of the teaching staff. The head coach often has to locate assistant coaches. The head coach is responsible for supervising the team and other coaches. A team’s coach is responsible for getting the entire team ready to play and compete in games, tournaments, and championships, but first must teach them the fundamentals of the sport. A Coach does not only teach athletes skill, but also about good sportsmanship and teamwork. The all-time goal for a head coach is to win a state championship. He or she is responsible for putting together the team with the best athletes in the school. The head coach is also responsible for putting together schedules. Coaches sometime host tryouts at the beginning of the year depending on the sport and size of the school. Coaches are always under a ton of pressure. They have the whole community depending on them to win at that sport. Fans will always talk bad when the team is losing. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment of coaches to increase much faster than the average for all occupations through 2022.
Do you have that certain something that has affected your life for better? Football is that thing for me. I have played it as long as I could walk. I still remember the time when I was very little and my dad would take me to the front yard and we would play catch and talk about football for hours. I have enjoyed football in three big parts of life: Pee Wee, Junior High, and High school.
Everyone has life experiences. Some can be new and fun, like the first time ever going to Disney World as a child. Meeting your favorite movie characters and seeing stories come to life. Other can be tragic, like losing a loved one or suffering a car crash. No matter the experience we all learn from them. I am here to tell you about an experience of mine that I went through at an early age. At the age of 15, I told my parents that I wanted to play football. The sport of football really changed my view on life and taught me that things don’t come easy and that if you really want something, you’re going to have to put in the time and work. One of the many experiences of being in the sport of football is that practice is one of the toughest things I’ve ever went through, physically and mentally. Football taught me a lot about team work and working with others on doing and executing a job. Football made me faster stronger smarter and wiser. I had great coaches who always encouraged me to keep going whenever I wanted to quit because something was too hard or I was feeling
As easy as it would be to go straight into the details of how athletics and activities have influenced my life, I first need to establish that athletics and activities are my life. While travelling across the East Coast playing softball, attending club meetings and events, and going to volleyball practice, I have learned and experienced more than most would in a mere seventeen years. I have been impacted by phenomenal people, players and coaches alike, who have motivated me to do more, to be better, and to become the person that I need to be. Of course, a coach will always push his or her team to raise the bar, but it is less often that you find one who sets a bar for the character of his players. My travel softball coach is not an easy man
“Football changed my life and it gave me a platform to get out my aggression and it gave me a sense of value.” said by Dwayne Johnson. When I had nothing to do at home I could always go and play football with my friends instead of going out and doing something I shouldn’t. When you grow up with a family that loves football and goes to a school where the passion is mainly playing football. I ask myself every day what would my life be without football. If it wasn't for football, I don't know where I would be right now. Football kept me out of trouble and it also helped me out in school when I needed it the most. If I were to describe what makes me, me I would have to say its football.
While playing soccer through the years, I have learned the importance of being a team player, a leader, and to think outside the box.
A Coach's Powerful Influence on Athletes A coach's role is to guide athletes through their athletic journey, but in some instances coaches can actually create barriers and hurdles on their path to success. Their role is crucial in the development of athletes, teaching them the rules of the sport, making technique corrections, developing mental toughness, and creating a team bond. By building a positive relationship with the athlete in a comfortable environment, coaches hope to maximize the potential of each individual athlete. However, they need to be mindful of their approach so that they do not hinder the progression of an athlete or affect the overall wellbeing of the team. The influence of different coaches on all areas of the team and individual athletes, including mental
Although we lost, my first varsity game was the most intense football game in my life. Two years ago ,my freshman year, was the last time I ever played football Until now. We was the greatest freshman team in our league. Our record was 9 and 1 and we were LEL champions. We lost our first game because we came unprepared, but After that game we never lost again. That was my effective and also my last year playing football until now.
Throughout my life I have participated in many sports, all of which have influenced me or taught me many lessons that I continue to look to even today. From learning to follow the rules for flag football to understanding that new things take time to master in dance, I have developed many valuable skills. The sports that I have participated in have influenced me by helping me improve myself and to encourage others to improve themselves. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities, memories, and people that playing sports has brought into my life. I have had the opportunity to participate in many different sports, and through this I have learned some of my most valuable lessons.
For as long as I can remember football has been a part of my life in some way, shape, or form. When I was first born my grandfather said that I was solid and built to play football. I used to throw the football with my mother when I was a toddler and she always told me that when I tried to tackle her I hit really hard. My first organized football experience was when I was five. I had just moved to Manassas, VA from Washington, D.C. in 1994. It was around fall and that was right at the beginning of football season in the area. I remember telling my mother that I wanted to play, so she looked for a local organization for children. She came across the Greater Manassas Football League (GMFL) and that is where I began to play the game I love.
Coaches who put their team and players first, are coaches who value each and every one as a person (Yanity, 2011). A good coach will teach life skills along with developing each player’s athletic talent (Yanity, 2011). With athletic participation at an all-time high, coaches have become an important element in the education of student-athletes (Yanity, 2011). It is important for coaches to have moral and ethical behavior in all phases of their lives as young men and women look to these role models for guidance.
The roles and responsibilities of a coach are much more complex than the average person might think. Aside from being a supervisor and teacher, coaches serve as role models, mentors and friends to their athletes. The coach/athlete relationship is unique and multidimensional, with the potential to positively or negatively affect an athletes performance. Interactions of coach/athlete relationships are mainly based on the coach and players performance, age and gender. Throughout every level of athletics in society today, the gender of a head coach plays a significant role in the development and mindset of his or her players and their skills overall.
