Throughout my life I have participated in many sports, all of which have influenced me or taught me many lessons that I continue to look to even today. From learning to follow the rules for flag football to understanding that new things take time to master in dance, I have developed many valuable skills. The sports that I have participated in have influenced me by helping me improve myself and to encourage others to improve themselves. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities, memories, and people that playing sports has brought into my life.
I have had the opportunity to participate in many different sports, and through this I have learned some of my most valuable lessons. When I was 9 years old, I played flag football and it made me step outside of my comfort zone because I was the only girl on the team. I participated in karate for a few years, and it deepened my grasp on discipline, respect, and how to improve myself.
My favorite sports were volleyball, softball, and soccer, but towards the end of junior high school, I had to make a big decision because

We all like to play sports and my dad, mom and brother are also active in playing recreational sports. From going to my brother’s baseball games to playing wiffle ball in the backyard, participating in sports brings my family together. Even though I may not have always been very willing to go to my brother’s baseball games, I have many memories of spending time with my family at those events. Likewise, my brother was not always willing to come to my soccer games, but he still went to many and cheered me on alongside my parents and grandparents. My family continues to have fun doing different sport activities together. We like taking fitness classes, playing pickleball, running, and they even do some of my summer workouts for college soccer with me. By participating in sports, my family has had the opportunity to create many lasting
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
I’ve been involved with sports since I was 2 years old, participating in these taught me more than the sports themselves; they taught me who I am. I put in countless hours of gymnastics practice, so many that the majority of kids couldn’t imagine the dedication needed to become a state and national champion. It taught me a few of the most vital lessons that I will ever learn; to contribute 100 percent in everything I do and to balance various aspects of my life. Gymnastics also taught me perseverance, how to work harder to achieve a goal, no matter how difficult.
As a child I was not in to many sports or involved in school activities. Going through high school I figured out that being involved in a sport or a school club would make my high school experience better. The first and only sport I chose to do was track. Track changed my whole high school experience and life. I learned to never give up, and it kept me out of trouble throughout my four years of high school.
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
Growing up, my brothers participated in many sports activities. They played hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer. Practice was held once a week and a game was scheduled for the weekend. The coach was usually a volunteer teacher or a parent of a teammate. In my brothers’ free time, they simply played whatever sport or game they wanted to play. Youth sports have changed in the pas...
Growing up, from the time I started my first day of class until walking across my hometowns football field to receive my diploma I never had thought that I let something define the person that I have become today. However, being presented with this essay I have come to the realization that football has defined me as a person. I don’t mean to say that the sport has had this much of an impact on me, I’d rather like to think that the memories associated with the sport has made an everlasting impact on my life.
Once again, after a successful season, Shadle Park was defeated by a Big 9 school in the first game of the regional tournament. This reoccurring event has led many to believe that the four year football program puts GSL students at a disadvantage compared to other districts. A junior high school football program would not only increase the competitiveness of the students but also have more important consequences.
How to Make Football Tougher With football players becoming more delicate than ever, the question asked is, “How can we make football players more tough and rugged to increase the popularity of the sport and open it up to a more aggressive crowd?” Football, being a easy and timid sport to play, should have a higher level of contact, which can be fixed by following a few steps. If one has enough motivation to put in the work and breed a more enhanced football game, the more injuries the better, you can easily watch a more vigorous and brutal version of football in no time.
There’s a lot of reasons in my life to be thankful for. One of the main things I’m blessed about is being an athlete. Without sports I wouldn't know what to do with my life. I’m so thankful for being blessed with no serious injuries that I’ve had to stop for. Because I play multiple sports my chances of getting hurt are more likely to happen. Of course I have minor injuries, but I’m lucky enough to not have menacing ones. Another thing to be appreciative of is the coaches I’ve had and the teammates. They have turned into family and I wouldn't want anyone else by my side. I'm also thankful for getting to state in two sports. Some people don't even get to go to state for one sport. State is a breathtaking experience and I can't wait to see what
I also got out of my comfort zone and joined volleyball. Living up to the promise I made to my mother helped me realize I like to learn. I took everything seriously and became the person I never thought I would become. I ended up taking this motivation all the way through high school and became extremely proud of the hard work I put in. Growing up with a deaf mother helped develop my skill of being a good listener.
Jeff Kemp, a retired professional NFL quarterback, once stated, “Sports teach positive lessons that enrich America even while revealing its flaws” (Kemp). Athletics offer so much more than the joy of game day and the thrill of a win. Being involved in sports holds the key to a world filled with passion, excitement, and once in a lifetime opportunities. There is nothing better than seeing the student section arrive in full force or hearing the school fight song chanted before kickoff. However, when life moves on and leaves sports behind, the lessons it has instilled in athletes never disappears. The play calls may be foggy and the jersey will be too tight, but what was innocently learned in the jersey shines out at an older age. Although life lessons can be learned through everyday activities, lessons such as teamwork, self-confidence, and dealing with failure are only truly learned through sports by young athletes.
My passion really grew as I encountered positive people, coaches, and teachers that taught me what sports were about. It is time for me to give back to those that helped me develop into the person that I am today. Everyone has some kind of passion and purpose in their life and it is up to me to help as many people find their purpose as possible. This will help young individuals learn to work hard and achieve their
Giving back to the community and aiding in the growth of young athletes makes me feel grateful for the fact that I can be there to support them. If I was not around I would not have been able to see my brother graduate and become a marine. Neither could I have traveled to Hong Kong and experienced my mum’s family kindness and generosity. If my family had decided to stay in Wales and not immigrate to America, I would not be able to enjoy the California beaches that I have come to adore. Being alive is one of the greatest gifts and the choices that I have made I do not regret. Fore without them I would not have come to know my friends, extended family and athletes that are now in my life. I accept all the ups and downs that come with the life I live because without the bad it is hard to tell what is good with the world. Sometimes a scraped knee or a bad performance is just what a person needs to remind them just how great the rest of their life
...in a lot of computer gaming events which were L.A.N. based & have achieved victory in college events. Involvement in sports has also meant that competitiveness and team-skills have become a part of my lifestyle, but I simply believe that I have a lot of patience and the willingness to learn and accept every challenge that comes my way.
