It has never been easier to obtain any kind of information. The technology we have today is amazing! We also have several forms of social media that allows us to gather information, stay connected to family and friends and aids our careers. If a person has a smart phone, they can access the Internet using their smart phone for the search. One of the best advantages of easily obtainable information is it can be accessed anywhere and anytime. Fast food restaurants and other establishments offer free WiFi. A person may take their device into such an establishment and search all they want. With the Internet, a person can search for their information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. The major disadvantage of easily obtainable information is at times the information found is unreliable and questionable. If a person is unsure of the reliability of the information, they must verify the information before using it. The information may also be found on sites that aren’t secure. One increases their chances of bein hacked by using social media. The risks of viruses and malwares increase. On social media sometimes the truth is altered by lies and rumors. Social media causes distractions at school, work and takes away from families time together. Instead of concentrating on school assignments or their work, peole are checking into their social media sites. Home life has been affected also. The internet is no longer just a source for research, as Cascio has said “ the digital systems we rely upon become faster, more sophisticated, and capable too” (Cascio). What he means by this is that we can rely more on technology to help us because it’s developing to become efficient to our daily needs. For example, there are tasks we can now complete on the internet that used to require plenty of time. Things like going to pay rent, purchasing groceries, or going to the bank are all things that can now be done online due to the faster, more capable power of the internet. Once time consuming or complex tasks are now simple to complete with just a few clicks. This is a beneficial concept to those who have busy schedules, have difficulties with transportation, disabilities that don’t allow them to maneuver much, or anyone who just doesn't have the time, patients, or ability to stand in long, never-ending waiting lines. According to the previously mentioned study done by Nanjing University of Science and Technology with the University of South Australia “elderly people are increasingly using mobile devices to conduct online banking, find jobs, access medical help, and obtain entertainment information” (Ma). Social media has a negative impact on our society today due to bullying, job stability, and in person conversations. Bullying affects people because they could attempt to commit suicide. When people have a job they could get in trouble if they start bashing on coworkers. In person conversations aren’t the best because people can give off false information about themselves.
Social Media is a great tool to have in the world's era in technology. It can do many great and unique tricks. Although society depends on social networks to keep most of our information private, info isn't always at stake, but that's not always the case. That is why some social networking accounts require a password from you, but even then, someone could still be at risk every time an individual posts a picture or message on social media. It's also not always a good idea to trust any security application to "stop" a cyber attack, but there are certain ways people can protect their personal privacy. Such as keep personal details at a minimum even when posting to friends; make sure all apps or applications on a phone are trustworthy to keep information on, and lastly many should have some form of identification similar to a Social Security Number.

It can distract you from your family, work, and school work. It can distract you from special events and moments with your family. You can be so caught up in your sites you’re missing the most important events of your life. It can become an easy distraction from work and school work.
