(Kailasam, Vasanth Kattalai, and Erin Samuels). Cyberbullying should be taken more serious through social media. It isn’t easy to identify people’s emotional posts on social media. Once something is said through social media, it tends to follow through public schools. Students take it overboard and tend to tell the whole class what had been posted. There are kids who ignore the false rumors, and then there are kids who can only take so much and choose to be homeschooled. Being homeschooled isn’t bad, they miss out on extracurricular activities, sports, and so on, but if the student who chooses to be homeschooled would rather do that than to be at a public school where kids bully, then that’s the best thing to do and feel comfortable with it. However, another example is someone who loses self-confidence. It is something that can’t be changed once someone tells you otherwise. Self confidence had such a negative effect on people today because
Cyberbullying is no exception to this statistic. The two writers also stated that “There have been several high-profile cases involving teenagers taking their own lives in part because of being harassed and mistreated over the Internet (Apollo, 2007; Halligan, 2006; Jones, 2008), a phenomenon recently termed cyberbullicide—suicide indirectly or directly influenced by experiences with online aggression,” (Hinduja and Patchin, 2007). These cases are not a constant issue in every school, but they have happened frequently enough to raise attention to faculty and parents. With adolescents being at such a sensitive age, it is important to remind them that the actions they take can have serious consequences, including

Social media has changed the way people communicate with each other and in turn, has affected our ability to empathize in both negative and positive ways. One of the most harmful consequences is the rise of cyber-bullying. Another negative issue has been the trend of trolling in comments sections of websites, chat rooms, and other online venues of communication. In spite of this, there have been constructive consequences due to social media such as the ability for family and friends to keep in touch on a regular basis. Because of social media, many people are finding support and resources to help them when they fall on hard times or experience tragedies like death and illness. Overall, social media is an exciting new world that changes as it grows and it will be up to society to utilize it for good.
Generations after generations teens have used the actions of bullying to hurt others they felt as a threat or to be in the “in crowd” of popularity. Traditional bullying was physical and thus confined to face-to-face contexts. However, with the development of widespread social interaction via social media websites, email, and text-messaging, teens have additional avenues of expression and, as a result, other means of bullying. Over time the bullying taking place using digital means has come to be known as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has brought the evilness out of teen’s actions, words, and thoughts whether they were the bully or the victim. Equally important, the ending results of these actions, words and thoughts have brought death, limited yet undefined punishable consequences if pursued, and slowly progressing methods to control cyberbullying as a whole.
“How easy it would be if I could glide through these halls without even making a ripple. Slide through the days, months, years of school and emerge safe and unscarred on the other side,” is what Kerbel says her feelings are about going to school. (Kerbel, 2011, p.120) Many students, like Kerbel, want to become invisible due to bullying because they feel like not being seen or heard will solve their problems. In a recent survey, about 160,000 students in the United States will not go to school because they are scared of the bullying that will happen. Bullying has gone from toilet swirling to life threatening events happening all over the world. Almost three million students worldwide, according to statistics done in 2010, are victims of bullying and two million students are the bully. Even though bullying is a part of growing up, cyberbullying and violent bullying happening in school today has children taking matters into their own hands.
