Buddhism offers many insights into the topic of anger and forgiveness. Buddhist teachings suggest peaceful, non-violent ways in order to prevent suffering and anger. The eightfold path teaches ways to relieve suffering and anger. Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh preaches compassion as a way to fully comprehend forgiveness. The Buddhist path is one that offers many ways to show compassion for fellow men, the earth, as well as every day conflicts.
One of the characteristics of Buddhist reality is “dukkha”, which is translated as suffering. The Buddhist understanding of suffering is more of a dissatisfaction or dis-ease with life. This is caused by the constant change that comes with living in the physical world. Even when experiencing a pleasurable time, we are dissatisfied because the moment is fleeting. For example when one homework assignment is completed, we know that soon there will be another. People try to organize their lives but unpredictable things such as death and natural disasters throw life back into a state of disorganization. These things are all examples of dukkha (Ellwood, McGraw, 121-123).
The Buddha stated that to live means to inescapably experience sorrow and dissatisfaction. Each new obstacle needs to be analyzed and understood so a solution can be found. Suffering cannot be avoided but the four noble truths indicate how each person can respond to it (Ellwood, McGraw, 121).
The first noble truth states that to live is to suffer (Ellwood, McGraw, 122). With a body comes decay and pain, and with the mind comes trouble and discouragement. A life of following the eightfold path and practicing Ahimsa taught him the true meaning of compassion and forgiveness. With that he was able to help thousands of people and show them the true meaning of life. His knowledge of suffering and insight into human nature allowed him to be patient and peacefully make change. Not only did he work to repair things in Vietnam, but he touched many lives and through that his work will continue to be done through others.

Often times,people who have too much in life always takes it for granted ,because all they have is pleasure and not knowing the feelings of pain and being without. Martha C. The Dalai Lama has become a figurehead for Buddhism worldwide for his compassion and warm smiles. Buddhism has extended beyond meditation and even monks such as the Dalai Lama. The basic concepts of compassion and mindfulness in Buddhism are being applied in the daily lives of lay people who need it the most.
Humans, throughout recorded history, have searched for a proper way of living which would lead them to ultimate happiness; the Nicomachean Ethics, a compilation of lecture notes on the subject written by Greek philosopher Aristotle, is one of the most celebrated philosophical works dedicated to this study of the way. As he describes it, happiness can only be achieved by acting in conformity with virtues, virtues being established by a particular culture’s ideal person operating at their top capacity. In our current society the duplicity of standards in relation to virtue makes it difficult for anyone to attain. To discover true happiness, man must first discover himself.

And I'm pretty sure all the characters like Mandela, Ghandi could be happy to know that their fight eventually pay today. Even as a human, suffering has become a part of our existence. Any good marriage is based on periods of discord, relations between parents and children are often in tension. Every birth is preceded by the suffering of the mother. Therefore overcome suffering is not about something that happened, but how you respond to life after these tests.
To reach enlightenment in Buddhism, one must overcome attachment to the pleasure of peace. Gampopa defines the pleasure of peace as “the desire to achieve nirvana only for oneself without the altruistic mind for sentient beings, and because of it, one does not benefit others” which is also termed as the lesser vehicle (Gampopa, 126). The remedy for this is the practices of loving-kindness and compassion. When one develops this loving-kindness and compassion, then one will have a mind that wants all sentient beings to meet with happiness as well as be free from suffering and its cause. When one achieves this, then one is attached to all sentient beings and no longer wants to attain liberation only for oneself. Compassion is so heavily ingrained in Buddhist practices, that it has been noted that the Buddha had said “the cultivation of loving kindness and compassion is not just part of our practice, it is all of our practice” (Strain, “Compassion & Stoic Philosophy”). Compassion is not just a crucial aspect of the path to Enlightenment; practicing and training in compassion can function to improve the lives of those unconcerned with achieving Buddahood through means of improving health, well-being and increasing self-motivation. Considering the benefits that can come from compassion, everyone should take part in practicing and experiencing compassion as its benefits extend into other aspects of life.
Furthermore, even the happiest and carefree of people will eventually experience some kind of suffering. The Buddha taught people to recognize that suffering is part of life and that it cannot be avoided. However, this suffering does not only come from the body—it also comes from within. Those who experience loneliness, depression, anxiety, or cannot satisfy their needs and wants are suffering. Despite the negative aspects of suffering, Siddhartha also spoke of happiness through friendships, family life, or health. Though, the downfall to this is that happiness is impermanent—or annica—and will not end all suffering. Buddhists believe that the way to end suffering is to first accept the fact that suffering is a fact of life. The next aspect to recognize is what causes such suffering?
Each day should be lived by moving on and accepting the next obstacle, while still appreciating the fortunate past and enjoying the immediate presence. Without recognition of pain and sorrow, there is no initiation for a solution. According to Buddha, one must accept suffering and live based on the laws of the Eightfold Path in order to achieve salvation. Because of the Four Noble Truths, people have been given a structural opportunity of hope that there is reason to live our lives to the fullest.

Notwithstanding happiness has long presented a conflict for the complex human condition. This is because the ideas we have about happiness are inherently paradoxical. If pleasure is what ultimately what brings us happiness than we are ignoring a crucial fact; in life pain and suffering are inevitable. Life can be described as a series of highs and lows. We are constantly apprehended by uncontrollable forces of nature. Unfortunately we can’t dismiss the fact that our human experience is rife with things like natural disasters, illness, and death.
Suffering is also known as Dukkha which means that every human life is naturally imperfect. As a human being, everyone will suffer, and they will have to endure suffering such as pain, sickness, injury, tiredness, old age, and even death.
