"Yaaawwwwnnnnn," is the sound of a student staying up until the depths of the night. The stress of school and the abundant amount of homework given almost nightly has caused students to worry more than necessary. Kids are not trying to learn and understand the material anymore. Instead, to memorize the curriculum for the upcoming tests or quizzes. A grading and learning system where students are given long-term assignments and expected to do a project of some sort in return rather than focusing on homework, quizzes, and tests is beneficial to students and teachers. It is very effective because it shows how the student has improved throughout the year, relieves a majority of the stress from school, and helps children focus on other aspects in the world. Our society is evolving, so our school should too. This would help the students in the best way possible. To start off, having a type of project at the end of the lesson instead of traditional work will decline the abundant amount of stress and anxiety school distributes. With all of the pressure to succeed in the academic world, anxiety and depression rates have taken a high rise in the last 50 years. With the amount of work given to students, it's almost impossible to do things in your free time. This new way of learning has many advantages dealing with kids and outside of school. They are able to do things that make them happy. For example, spending time with family, playing sports, taking part in extracurriculars, maybe even having a job. All of these are possible with traditional way of school, but it will not leave students feeling as groggy and tired. Technically, school lasts eight hours for five days a week. Does it really?
