Homework Beneficial

Although homework is often regarded as a useful tool for student learning, homework is a tedious and unnecessary task which overburdens students by removing them from the productive classroom environment, by preventing them from participating in extracurriculars, and by robbing them of the essential time necessary for self care.
Homework proves to be detrimental in that it forces students to work individually, in an environment where help is not available to them. Although homework is often viewed as a tool for students to practice what they learned throughout the school day, forcing students to work at home deprives them of a productive environment in which they can effectively ask questions to increase their understanding. Students may be taught a concept in school, but once they go home they may not understand the material enough to complete the homework adequately. At home, students often do not have the appropriate resources to complete their work. Thus, putting them in such an unproductive environment would garner no progress for the student. While some believe that education is the sole factor in advancement, social ability and outside knowledge are essential to advancement. Children who participate in after school clubs ( i.e. sports and volunteer groups) are shown to be more well rounded and have higher cognitive ability. Extracurriculars provide an opportunity for students to branch out and develop new skills and interests, therefore preparing them to enter the working world with some idea of which career to pursue. In addition many students seek to gain scholarships from their extracurriculars in order to further their education after high school. Without the time for these activities, however, all of these benefits lay out of students
