Most teachers think that homework is constructive and does help students learn, but when in fact most students see homework as a chore and is not constructive to learning. Most assigned homework is photocopied busy work that students can look up and find the answers to, or copy. Parents and students alike see this as a chore that does not enhance the learning experience. They also agree that this takes up valuable time at home. These are just a few of the reasons why I think that homework should not be assigned. Assigning homework to students is non beneficial to their learning. One reason homework is non constructive is that it is often over assigned and takes up valuable family time. A New York Times article interviewed a student named Jasmine, who is a middle schooler. When students see busy work as a chore, they are automatically known not to do their best work and most likely copy off of somebody. This goes to show that assignments that can be used as positive experiences should be because students will try and get better experiences and learn more. Students and parents alike agree that busy work is a bore and does not help students learn. Parents see it too, the photocopied work that their children are given are repetitive and do not help. The students complain and do not put forth their best effort when it comes to boring assignments like that. When repetitive work is assigned at a young age, it has no positive correlation to class. Often, younger grade teachers will hand out a repetitive worksheet that has a few of the same type of problem on it. There is just one problem with this, it has no positive effects.
