Homework is a debated topic all over the United States. It is a constant argument between students and teachers, and sometimes even parents. Teachers encourage students to be active and involved in extracurricular actives, yet they also expect students to do hours of homework every night. Teachers assign homework nearly every night, but is it hurting more than it is helping. Students should not be expected to do homework every night. Hours of homework can lead to stress and lack of sleep. Teenage students already deal with enough stress outside of school every day and then they have to go home and worry about how they are going to get all their homework done for the next day. One study shows that 53 percent of students say homework is a major stress in their lives(Levy). If students did not have to worry about homework they would not be so stress and they could enjoy their schooling experience more. …show more content…

Many students participate in sports and other extracurricular actives after the school day. They get done with school and then have to go to a three hour practice or rehearsal and then after that some might have to go to a job or even take care of family members. Studies show that 57 percent of students are involved in one extra-circular activity after school(Nearly). That means over half the school has to go to some sort of practice after school and then is expect to go home and do hours of homework. Students still want to have time to hangout and be with their friends, but they do not have time to be with them when they are busy doing homework.
