Every teen has challenges they face every day. After reading the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, these habits to be proactive and to synergize can be very beneficial to teens everyday. Synergize is to be helpful and work with people. To be proactive is to have control of your self. These two habits are the most beneficial to teens in there daily life's. I believe Habit 1: Being Proactive is very beneficial to teens. To be proactive is to be in control of your life, and do not let anyone peer pressure you in to doing things that are not smart, illegal, or bad. Synergize is to work with some one to get a better solution and it's a mutual agreement. If you use synergize in your daily life, your daily life will be easier. Teenagers don't like working together they think they can do everything on there own, but don't get me wrong there are some teenagers that will work with someone and get the work done no problem. "No part is more important than the other, just different" (Covey 183). In other words it's saying nothing is more important than another it's just different. The way I implemented habit 1: was when my brother and I were in the car arguing and I remembered in the book it said"Use proactive language not reactive", so instead of yelling I was the bigger person and ignored him and I was calm about it. I learned being proactive is a way healthier way of living. In addition I implemented habit 6: my dad and I went to NC to buy me a four-wheeler and on the way home we had to come up with a mutual solution to get it out of the truck, so my dad and I came up with a solution that we both agreed on. Habits are choices that one continues to do repeatedly without actually thinking about them. Habits start with a decision, but they eventually become automatic. One can probably think about things we do every day that we wish we did less of, perhaps like binging Netflix, constantly checking social media, or snacking when not being hungry. If one can understand how habits are triggered, one can learn how to overcome them. I have learned how to be an optimistic person and spread positivity with others. Recently I went to Puerto Rico to visit my family and there I met a numerous amount of vagrant people who did not have food on a daily basis nor a home to come to after an elongated day. I felt so pleased to be able to bless those individuals with nutrition, water, and clothes. Before I developed into who I am now, I did not have goals and accomplishments, I did not really have a determination in life. Learning who Christ was helped me become more linguistic, kinesthetic and spatial.
People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?

Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, acknowledges how habits control our daily lives in every decision we make. For Instance, an ambitious woman named Lisa Allen, has not always had a fruitful life. Previously, she had abused her body with harmful toxins such as tobacco and alcohol since the beginning of her teenage years. Carrying out these habits everyday resulted her into being unmotivated and unconfident. In fact, she never kept a job longer than a year and began to fall into major debt. “She needed a goal in her life, she thought. Something to work toward” (xii-xiv). It begins with the “three-step loop” a cue that triggers our brain to do the habit. Next a routine, a set of actions that are either physical or mental. Finally a reward of satisfaction that determines whether or not this habit will be continuous (19). Not all habits can be good, but this is where the golden rule applies. Duhigg explains that in order for you to change your habit “ you must keep the old cue, and deliver the old reward, but insert a new routine”(62). “However, simply understanding how habits work- learning the structure of the habit loop makes them easier to control”( 20). Reading The Power of Habit, helped me understand the process by which I made a positive change to fight procrastination.

One thing I learned is how to calculate discounts with money. When I go shopping and see something I like on sale, instead of running around searching for a price check I can easily calculate its price in my head. Another thing I have learned is how to write a resume. When applying for a job I need to write a resume; it’s an essential part of my future and career. One last thing I learned was the importance of compromise. When working in a group, and not only that, but anywhere you will find people who don’t always agree or even like you. However, if you learn to compromise you can work with anyone, no matter who they are or what they believe. Lucky for me, I finally learned how to be healthy. It took longer than I would’ve liked but I don’t regret my journey. Learning what being healthy means made me the person I am today.

A habit can be many things, some good, some not so good. Everyone has habits that they would like to change and maybe improve upon. I believe the majority of habits I have are good ones but some are not. These bad habits are the ones I will talk about.
