The use of social media is leading to growth of the healthcare delivery services. Similarly, the speed in which activities are carried has increased due to the impact of technologies such as the internet, application, smartphones, tablets and personal computing devices. Furthermore, the media has had other diverse effects on pharmaceuticals and the medical field. Social media can lead to change in the healthcare system, as it has the power to change and influence multitudes of people. Consequently, all medical stakeholders need to reflect on the role of social media and its willingness to contribute, for the new system to reach its potential. Nevertheless, social media comes with some difficulties that should be dealt with to effectively develop its role in the healthcare field. In a survey of approximately 480 practicing and student physicians, 68% felt it was ethically problematic to interact with patients on social networks for either personal or professional reasons. Similarly, healthcare facilities should update their structural assessments of risks and should make sure that they include foreseen risks in these evaluations. Also, the healthcare facilities should implement new policies and procedures in addition to investigating any suspected violations of HIPAA policies. Nonetheless, the HIPAA compliances and policies should be made a part of all the compliances of any healthcare organization to deal with this interaction of social media into the healthcare system. It is apparent that social media has played a crucial part in transforming communication. Consequently, it is on its way to transforming the health sector too. Similarly, its growth in clinical uses should go hand in hand with the awareness of medical practitioners of its implications on relationships, ethics, and professionalism. The most important measure is to abide the medical ethical and professional commitments for there to be a public trust.
