Leaders in the healthcare industry have the power to use, or
misuse and even overuse, his or her personal convictions and be overly moralistic in the
treatment of particular groupings of patients. In the end, all medical professionals have a
responsibility and moral obligation to provide treatment.
There is no way to avoid the constant challenges of being responsible for people,
organizations, outcomes, and uncertainties in this environment. Even when one decides to take
on a leadership role, an individual must learn how to lead effectively. Having role models is a
great asset when placed in leadership situations. Leadership role models are the individuals who
are already in a position of authority that one can look up to and aspire to be like. A person can
gain knowledge and learn from role models the skills and qualities they may be lacking and view

In healthcare profession, leadership is defined as utilization of personal characteristics and experiences to communicate effectively with the patients suffering critical health problems for which there are no specific answers and to direct health care team in developing policies to solve these problems. Growing up I have always taken on leadership roles. I was always the organizers of group projects and was team captain of my club and high school soccer team for several years. This past experience with leadership roles has lead to me developing several of valuable traits associated with leadership. For example, I have strong communication and problem solving skills, which have helped me in my past leadership positions and will continue to be an asset in the future. Although I have had experience in leadership roles in the past, I learned through this reading that there is room for a considerable amount of growth. One thing that was a valuable lesson for me was that leaders must be followed as well as follow others at times. I have always took control of situations and tried to lead others, but now I realize that sometimes even leaders need to take a back seat and let their followers take some control. I will employ this in the future in the clinical setting to ensure that all of my subordinates or colleagues feel they have control and power over the decisions being made. This is definitely an area I intend to grow in and utilize in the future to enhance my leadership abilities. Today’s leaders have to keep up with scheduling, flexing, covering vacation, meetings, their department as a whole, and make sure everything runs smoothly. With the ever changing healthcare nurses have to be up to date on new technology, training, and new education. The department head is not only a supervisor; she is a bedside nurse meeting multiple demands. She takes on tasks that include everything from the bedside nurse, to unit meetings, to charge nurse, and to scheduling, just to name a few. The following interview report is intended primarily for exploration and comparison of the traits and characteristics of leadership. A leader of a clinical medicine centre was interviewed for this report. The purpose of this report is to explore the leadership characters and traits, and how they can be developed in this turbulent environment. First, I make a brief introduction regarding the background of the respondent and her working environment. The report also describes this leader's personal and subjective perceptions in relation to a literature review which investigates the traits and characteristics of leadership. The report concludes with a comparison and discussion of the results of the clinical condition on the basis of the interview and literature review. At the same time, the report aims to put forward feasible and effective advice and specific programs for present and future leaders and managers in the health care system.
In addition, I place high worth on integrity, innovation and inclusiveness of individual within the group. I have no interest in participating activities that will harm others. My personal background as an advocate for a disabled individual and my work experiences have influenced my leadership views. I have worked for healthcare institutions that were engaged in taking shortcuts that were harmful to the outcomes of patients. Given the opportunity to improve leaders preferred the initial appearance of efficiency over patient safety. Some players were more concerned with groupthink and the mortgages they had to pay than patient outcomes. I am future oriented and I think in the end I have God to pay. Earlier in my life, I was taught that leadership starts from the ground up and we all have opportunities to be leaders. My expectations of healthcare originated in the military. Military hospitals are not always known for being perfect. However, the standards in my field were exacting and uncompromising. You could expect to be inspected in the same way a drill sergeant might inspect the barracks and it was with good reason. Patients can face some difficult outcomes but they should not end up worse off due to the negligence of healthcare workers. I expected the same standards and ethics in the civilian hospitals. I
