Is probably the most important of the five dimensions of health. Emotional health is the positive mental functioning of the brain. It can be thought of as an extension of mental health. It's the end of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that make up both our inner and outer worlds. It includes an overall experience of the wellness in what we think, feel and do through both the highs and lows of life. Emotional health is very important to help prevent depression and many other states of mental health. Physical Heath. Physical health is one of five dimensions of health. My emotional heath not one of my best ones. I don’t really show my emotions and keep it inside me. I don’t really feel and thing besides anger, happy, excited, stressed and annoyed. These emotions are mostly bad and I need to work on it. I must admit I can get angry at the time and say things I should not but that is my personality and how I was raised. One thing I must say is that if I don’t get my work done I have a mental break down until I get my work done and that can lead to bad things like missing classes and hurting people’s feelings. My physical heath. My physical heath is my strongest dimension on health. Every day I do at least 3 hours of dance to keep fit and healthy. I want to start going to the gym more often even though I do a lot of exercises. I only have one negative thing about my physical heath and it is that I get 10 hours of sleep and I am still tired. Spiritual health. My spiritual health is horrible I never go to church and I don’t believe in anything. I believe my purpose in life is something I don’t know yet but I will figure it out when I am older. My Cognitive heath. My cognitive health is another one of my strong dimensions of health. I think my cognitive health is quite strong because I don’t let anyone change me or treat me badly, and my personality is how I was raised and my family act very similar to me. Enhancing and Improving my
The base of my health triangle is my social health because I don’t find any issues in this area of my life. The reason why I think my social health is the strongest health factor for me is because I don’t find it difficult to make new friends and I enjoy being around people a lot. For example, I am currently in Phi Theta Kappa, Student Council, Math Team, Key Club, HOSA and I’m looking forward to joining more clubs in our school. This means that I meet a lot of new people that I need to interact with. Even though there are people who are negative, I can adjust my attitude towards them so I can get to know them and possibly become their friend. I believe that anyone can be positive if they tried to. I work well with others and strive
In this essay I am going to investigate whether health is easily defined as the absence of disease or physical injury. According to Health psychology (2009) ‘World Health Organisation defined health as a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. In order to achieve good physical a nutrition diet is needed, healthy BMI, rest and adequate physical exercise is needed.
Overall, as seen in my self-assessment tool (appendix), the dimensions of health in which a change may be beneficial are my physical, emotional, environmental, spiritual and personal health promotion/disease prevention dimensions. In these dimensions I scored under 30/40 or the 75% of over which I consider to be achieving healthy living. The social and intellectual health dimensions had the highest scores, with social health being the highest at 38/40.
My emotional wellness I cope with things that are around me. I usually do not communicate about my feelings. Also I really do not talk about my situations because I feel that my personal situations are not worth being shared to others only because I do not trust people easily. I agree on the author's interpretation of my wellness worksheet.
Positive health looks at what aspects of health are there and which ones make us healthy.
In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a person is free from illness, disease, mental distress or anything which may be a symptom of not having good health. The holistic view of health sees the person as a whole instead of just directing at one area and therefore combines physical, social, intellectual and emotional factors together. Consequently, if a person has emotional difficulties such as how they interact with other people or how they may feel but are physically fit and free from illness does not mean that they are healthy overall as one factor has difficulties. It is also vital to consider the two main theoretical concepts known as the medical and social model of health. Polity books (no date) describes that the medical model views health in terms of disease, diagnosis and then treatment and very much views a body to be separate from psychological processes. Causes of ill-health within the body are seen to require expert interference from a doctor to provide treatment to prevent or kill of an illness within the body. The Social model...
The second dimension of wellness is emotional wellness, which has a lot to do with you ability to recognize your own thoughts and feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as: understanding and sharing your thoughts and feelings with yourself and those around you, and being confident in your self and the decisions you make. Some well known people who I believe have attained emotional wellness include Ellen DeGeneres and Doctor Phil.
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." (World Health Organization, 1946) While well-being means a lack of illness and disease, the ability to maintain your mind and soul in a state of balance. There is a vast majority of areas that need to consider in order classifying health and well-being. Several non modifiable factors affecting health can be genetics, gender, race, age. Other factors like personality, attitudes and thoughts that can affect the lifestyle. The relation within a social group, referred to their attitudes, orientations, or behaviours which take the interests, intentions, or needs of other people into account. As general health can have a massive influence on relationship between friends and family. Awareness of emotion changes, the ability to sustain in control of them, resolving problems, and coping with stress. It also depends on the natural environment. Weather, especially extreme heat and cold and icy conditions, inhibits participation in outdoor activities such as walking, cycling and playing at the park.
Knowing what each of these dimensions of wellness requires can feel overwhelming. However, one should not be discouraged because of what they lack, but look forward to the improvement we are capable of bringing to our own lives. Becoming more spiritual will always be beneficial. Anytime one can improve their relationship with God one can improve their life astronomically. Emotional wellness is possible even for those who have been through horrible experiences. Practicing emotional wellness can bring healing. Physical and nutritional wellness will lead to a longer, pleasanter life and social wellness will make that life worth living. Sharing a well life with family, friends, and God will make time on this earth an irreplaceable experience.
Health is described as physical and mental well-being and freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only superficially define the actual meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Health is a quality of life involving dynamic interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists. There are many factors that influence your health, but three major components contribute to general well-being: Self-awareness, a balanced diet and, regular physical activity.
My strength that I find I have in my mental and emotional health is my ability to cope with the issue in my life either through seeking help with someone like a friend, my sister, or my mom or by figuring it out myself; I never like to bottle up my problems until the pressure gets the best of me. If I can’t seek the help of others and I feel overwhelmed then writing things down on paper helps me relieve the stress of my problems. One weakness in my mental and emotional health is that I do not always feel great about myself. I overthink the things I have done in the past and get mad at myself for some inconsequence, insignificant, embarrassing event. I have the weakness of not being able to let go of my past mistakes and I hold them over myself which sometimes makes me upset. I need to learn to let go of my past and to not get mad at myself over irrelevant things.
According to Dr. Doris Jeanette, PsyD., Emotional health is determined by the amount of emotional security you feel. If you are relaxed and secure in your everyday life, you are an emotionally healthy person. Someone who is emotionally healthy has an open heart and relaxed body. Emotionally healthy people have higher self-esteem and low anxiety. You are not going to have a negative auto-response to stressful or difficult situations that arise in your daily life. Instead, you will be able to maintain a calm disposition and be patient with yourself and others. You are not likely to be judgmental or critical of others because you have learned to not be judgmental and critical of yourself. Emotional health means you are able to address and identify with your emotions as opposed to avoiding or suppressing them. In order to be an emotionally healthy person, you must be able to express your emotions in and assertive but healthy way. You cannot reach emotional stability if you are unable to address your feelings or hide from them.
According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility. " It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels of healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions, both individually and collectively.
Emotional health includes a person who has full control of his emotions of himself as well as for those people around him and has developed self-confidence, trust within his peers and love that is unwavering in the midst of hardships. Intellectual health describes a person ability to reinforce his experiences through learnings. A socially healthy person is one who can forge strong bonds within his acquaintances and to be able to cope up the usual day-to-day drama. Spiritual wellness involves the strengthening of ones’ belief and at the same time being open to new beliefs. And a physically healthy person takes care of his body and practices healthy habits. Health educators install these five dimensions to their clients by identifying the needs through Maslows’ Hierarchy of needs (Bastable,
