Wellness is defined as expanding upon the definition of health to acknowledge that their are varying degrees of health within each dimension: physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and occupational (Health and Wellness for Life 18). The pathway to complete wellness includes all of the following dimensions of health. To me, to reach complete wellness you need to be able to be in a good place physically, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and occupationally. Without just one of these the balance of your life could be off. Each dimension of wellness plays a critical role in how you feel about yourself, your health, and how happy you are. Physical and emotional wellness are two of the most important components Intellectual wellness refers to creative and mental activities, and your openness to new ideas. In life you need to have an open mind so you can accept new ideas. If you close your mind to new possibilities you are not growing as a person or gaining any new knowledge. To achieve intellectual wellness I always keep and open mind, even if I do not agree at first. I also try to learn something new everyday. Increasing you knowledge is a great way to keep a positive attitude. Intellectual wellness is an important component in staying touch with todays world. Social wellness is all about being a contributing member of your community and society (Health and Wellness for Life 3). Becoming an active member in your community increases your chances to form relationships and help fellow community members. Only thinking about yourself can make you drive people away from you and you can lose friends. Sports, church, festivals and school activities are all great ways for people to stay connected to their community. Spiritual Wellness is often mixed up with religion. Although spiritual wellness can include your religious beliefs it focuses on the meaning and purpose of life. Spiritual wellness is your ability to forgive, show compassion, and to love. Sometimes spiritual wellness can be hard to cope with, depending on your past relationships in life. If someone has hurt Before I took the class my view on wellness was mainly physical. I believed that wellness meant physical health. If you exercised and ate healthy you were in a happy place. However, this class made me realize it is much more than that. The one thing that changed my mind the most was reading about emotional wellness. I realized that you can have a fit body and not be sick but if you were stressed or did not know how to deal with you emotions, you could become depressed or even just unhappy with your life. All of the components of wellness I discussed in this essay not make me think about how I want to change my lifetime wellness goals and become a much more well rounded person. Learning about these aspects and how you can achieve one has helped me to already start living a healthier, happier life not just physically but emotionally, intellectually, socially, spiritually, and
