Wellness is defined as expanding upon the definition of health to acknowledge that their are varying degrees of health within each dimension: physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and occupational (Health and Wellness for Life 18). The pathway to complete wellness includes all of the following dimensions of health. To me, to reach complete wellness you need to be able to be in a good place physically, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and occupationally. Without just one of these the balance of your life could be off. Each dimension of wellness plays a critical role in how you feel about yourself, your health, and how happy you are. Physical and emotional wellness are two of the most important components Intellectual wellness refers to creative and mental activities, and your openness to new ideas. In life you need to have an open mind so you can accept new ideas. If you close your mind to new possibilities you are not growing as a person or gaining any new knowledge. To achieve intellectual wellness I always keep and open mind, even if I do not agree at first. I also try to learn something new everyday. Increasing you knowledge is a great way to keep a positive attitude. Intellectual wellness is an important component in staying touch with todays world. Social wellness is all about being a contributing member of your community and society (Health and Wellness for Life 3). Becoming an active member in your community increases your chances to form relationships and help fellow community members. Only thinking about yourself can make you drive people away from you and you can lose friends. Sports, church, festivals and school activities are all great ways for people to stay connected to their community. Spiritual Wellness is often mixed up with religion. Although spiritual wellness can include your religious beliefs it focuses on the meaning and purpose of life. Spiritual wellness is your ability to forgive, show compassion, and to love. Sometimes spiritual wellness can be hard to cope with, depending on your past relationships in life. If someone has hurt Before I took the class my view on wellness was mainly physical. I believed that wellness meant physical health. If you exercised and ate healthy you were in a happy place. However, this class made me realize it is much more than that. The one thing that changed my mind the most was reading about emotional wellness. I realized that you can have a fit body and not be sick but if you were stressed or did not know how to deal with you emotions, you could become depressed or even just unhappy with your life. All of the components of wellness I discussed in this essay not make me think about how I want to change my lifetime wellness goals and become a much more well rounded person. If one wants to live an enjoyable, fulfilling life they must know what it truly means to be well. Living a wellness lifestyle means incorporating all aspects of what it takes to flourish as a human being. It goes beyond the health of the physical body and incorporates the important social, emotional, and spiritual factors that play a part in every person’s life in one way or another. Knowing how to act correctly, control our feelings, channel our frustrations, and improve in each dimension of wellness will lead to a satisfactory life. Spiritual, physical, emotional, nutritional, and social wellness define the biggest components of life and thriving in them is vital.
Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.

" It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels of healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions, both individually and collectively.
We should also take note about our intellectual health. This refers to our cognitive skills and ability to improve one’s quality life and it is our ability to analyze, evaluate, reason out and make wise and rational decisions. Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, having self-affirmations, reading something like books for fun, writing down our thoughts frequently, avoiding alcohol or drugs, solving some puzzles and maintaining a positive or open mind towards problems and conflicts are ways to become a mentally healthy
Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world.
