The service I completed my work experience was a Pre-School. This organisation belongs to the public sector, and provides education for children aged 2-4. Due to confidentiality, I cannot state the place or name of this particular early years setting. I attended this setting for seven days and during my time there, I observed what types of quality care was being demonstrated and if all three values of care were being applied. Pre-school A used all three values of care which gives everyone equality. These three values are; Promoting respect and dignity, anti-discriminatory practice and individual rights and choices.

Data protection of all children plays a vital role in giving all pupils respect and dignity, and reassures parents of quality care. It’s very important in all early years’ settings that relevant policies are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of every child. I was made aware of the code of practice and child protection policies during my placement. On one occasion, the pre-school had an outing where
Children’s views should always be taken into account. It should never be assumed that a child wants to do something, they should always be involved in decisions that concern them, just like an adolescent or adult would be. However, if this is not possible, the action taken should be discussed with their parents.
Staff in setting ‘A’ promotes individual rights and choices which impact positively as it gives each child a sense of belonging to the school. For example, I witnessed this being given to a pupil who has a disability. This child was not singled out from the rest of the class, he was very much included and was given the same quality of care and support as everyone else, but not treated in the exact same way as he has different needs as an individual.
