If you were to google the definition of happiness, it will give you an extremely shallow definition of the state of being happy. Happiness is an abstract and intangible emotion that cannot literally be defined. So how can one define it? People use their emotions, feelings, and events in their life to define happiness. Though, the emotions described by each individual will vary because each individual is their own person; therefore, not any one view of happiness will be the same. Happiness is a feeling that comes from within. Scientists define it as chemical being introduced to the brain that causes this feeling, just like many other emotions one can feel on a daily basis. of things. Whether it’s putting a smile on someone’s face, enjoying a favorite snack, or just laughing at a simple joke, that amazing emotion of happiness is expressed. When I feel this blessing of happiness it is usually after or during a successful time in my life.
Whether it is playing volleyball or just making toddlers at my church laugh and smile, I have experienced this pure joy. Success, building others up, and loving others all play a major role in my happiness as well. I become extremely happy when I am successful, as well as when others around me are successful. The success of others brings joy in my life; however, it makes me strive to achieve just as they have. Another way my happiness is developed in my life is from the people around me. My mother always told me to surround myself with positive people because they will lead you to live a positive lifestyle, and her advice has led me to become who I am today. Positivity is the basis of happiness in my eyes, for negativity leads to sadness and pain. Happiness is a positive feeling and is usually associated with positive connotations; therefore, I wrap my life in positivity to ensure happiness even through tough times. There are many different levels of happiness that range from simple to the extremity of pure happiness, and this is what I try to gain in my life. Pure happiness is not a short feel good moment that is experienced for a few moments, but it is an everyday acceptance of who I am and what I have in life. Happiness is scientifically proven to infact be a real and natural feeling produced by the body, but it is up to your brain to make you feel. Before we look into specifics, we’ll examine the history and development of “happiness” as a philosophy. Of course, the emotion of happiness has always existed, but it began to be seriously contemplated around 2,500 years ago by philosophers like Confucius, Buddha, Socrates and Aristotle. Shortly after Buddha taught his followers his Noble Eight Fold Path (which we will talk about later), Aristotle was teaching that happiness is “dependent on the individual” (Aristotle).
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.

For example, happiness in the work place can help improve work place efficiency resulting in greater output. According to the book The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor the three main activities that promote happiness are writing down what we are grateful for each day, “The Zorro Circle” , learning how to deal with success and failure, and having a plan to improve.
Have you ever felt like you never wanted something to end? That feeling could possibly be the feeling of happiness. Happiness can not be described like other words. It is more complicated than just a simple sentence. Would a single sentence describe a person, with all their emotions and personal experiences? Just like people some words are complex and can’t be described by a concrete definition. These words are deeper, provoking thoughts and feelings to come to the surface. For me, happiness is more than simple words. Happiness is the joy of being with friends and family, seeing the joy in others, and being content with life.

Parents want their children to have a happy childhood and a happy life, people wish newlyweds a happy married life, and when someone passes on, they say, “S/he had a happy life,” as if that is comforting to those who are already missing the person and who are very unhappy. Why is happiness so important to people? Perhaps it is because humans are competitive by nature and one person exaggerates his/her happiness so that others are envious. Maybe it is because humans like to be distracted by a story and if they can believe someone actually achieves perfect happiness, then they can hold out hope for themselves. What is happiness exactly? No one knows because everyone defines it differently. In general though, happiness is an overall feeling of pleasure and satisfaction. If that is the case, then happiness seems easy enough to achieve, but whether humans are actually capable of realizing they are in the state of happiness though is another issue.
Happiness comes in all forms and in a variety of meanings. Everyone can debate their perceptions on what true happiness is. The general idea is that it’s a state of mind where a person is at pleasure with their life or at a certain moment. People argue that the way to true happiness is money or finally getting that job they always dreamt of. They are narrow-minded to not think of something that will mend them happy now, in the moment. If they were to die tomorrow what is in existence today that would make them truly happy? Being content with your life is important to have, it helps a person accept life struggles and find the bright side of situations. For me, true happiness is simply being alive —breathing air is the most amazing experience, and being able to comply with my life.
Happiness is hard to achieve. Some people follow several steps in order to get what they want. People have unlimited wants. However, not all the things they want can give them happiness. Happiness, what is it, and why do we strive to achieve it so persistently? Happiness in some points of view is portrayed as the state that is derived from self-awareness of a benefiting action or moment taking place. What of the moments that are not beneficial? Can a person still find moments of happiness and success in discord, a little glimmer of light shining from the deep recesses of our own consciousness? Happiness is a state of mind. The dictionary definition is "feelings of joy and pleasure mingled together”. A feeling of happiness is more than just an experience of joy or pleasure. It is a state of mind where the individual feels that “life is good”. As Aristotle says, “happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” I believe that everyone wants to be happy in life. One is abnormal if he prefers to be sad and alone.
I believe that happiness is the key to living a good and prosperous life. Through all of the sadness and hate in the world, happiness gives me hope. It gives not only me, but others hope and joy. Happiness gives us something to hold onto, therefore we cherish it as much as we can.
