Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
To achieve happiness you will end up sacrificing. This can be either an object, mental state, physical well being, and even self awareness. There are many different ways to achieve being happy. In Life of Pi, Pi faced many challenges where he had to make choices to survive on the ocean. Since he was on the ocean for such a long period of time, there would have been a big change of his own criteria of what happy felt to him. Instead...
“The greatest sacrifice is when you sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of someone else.” Sacrifice does not come easy, but one sacrifice can inspire many as seen in the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. In the novel McMurphy sacrifices himself to undergo a lobotomy to inspire the other men on the ward that they aren’t crazy and they can stand up for themselves.
Sacrifices, though often difficult to make, can be ultimately be beneficial. Whether that sacrifice be a job, a person, a lifestyle, or a way of thinking, it can better the lives of everyone involved. A great example of this fact lies in John Steinbeck’s novel The Grapes of Wrath when a preacher named Jim Casy sacrifices his position after he has self-proclaimed “sinful ideas”, which he soon discovers to be more sensible and even applicable to his life, and moreover the entire work. When Jim Casy sacrificed his position as a preacher, and, with that, his past values, he opened his mind to accept profound ideas regarding holiness, togetherness, and revolution which ultimately prove to be the themes of the novel as a whole.
“ Things are rough all over” by Cherry Valance. Cause the sacrifices they made and the violence they were exposed to, the “Greasers” struggled more that the “Socs”.In the book The Outsiders many people have a certain point of view, many people believe that the Greaser struggles more than the rich people the Socs. Darry drops out of high school to help his little brothers, they struggle more because their not wealthy and don’t have money or jobs like the Socs. Some people believe that the Socs have it harder because they are sometimes left alone and don’t have their mom and dad all the time.Cause the sacrifices they made and the violence they were exposed to, the “Greasers”
Before we look into specifics, we’ll examine the history and development of “happiness” as a philosophy. Of course, the emotion of happiness has always existed, but it began to be seriously contemplated around 2,500 years ago by philosophers like Confucius, Buddha, Socrates and Aristotle. Shortly after Buddha taught his followers his Noble Eight Fold Path (which we will talk about later), Aristotle was teaching that happiness is “dependent on the individual” (Aristotle).
Society has always been unstable because of immoral humans, yet human morals are conditioned by society from birth; making human nature a classic chicken-or-egg paradox. William Golding, author of Lord of the Flies, argues that society is defective because human nature is naturally flawed. However, the example of ritual sacrifices in Aztec culture refutes his claim since the brutal inhumanity found in this society was an inevitable consequence of the pressures on the population rather than a product of an inherently problematic human nature.
Ultimately being happy is not as great as it is talked up to be. Having too much happiness is not good. Being too happiness can cause us to miss the true value of happiness, only focus on ourselves, and it can cause us to be less alert to threats and dangerous situations around us. Being happy is a good thing but like all good things there are also some
The film adaptation of The Kite Runner does diminish the complexity of the story. But, the crucial theme of “sacrifice,” however, remains largely intact, and unshorn – for without it, the theme being so crucial to the story at almost every important, and relevant level, without it, there would simply be no story. The relationship between Amir and Hassan features much sacrifice, especially on Hassan's part, who does anything and everything in his power to keep Amir comfortable and safe. 1.]
Without happiness, people might not be living their lives the way they yearn to. This is a prominent part of the book Anthem. Prometheus, the protagonist, was not happy in his life because he was forced to live uniformly to everyone else. He did not enjoy it and this is known because when he starts to do something he takes pleasure in and that is different from everyone else, he discovers true happiness. "We seized their body and we pressed our lips to theirs. We stood together for a long time. And we were frightened that we had lived for twenty one years and had never known what joy is possible to men" (Rand 83). This quote shows that Prometheus was not happy in his life before he went to the uncharted forest. Before he left, he was not able to speak to, let alone kiss a woman. Now that he is living his life the way he yearns to, Prometheus understands true happiness through kissing the Golden One.
Happiness is an inner state of well-being and fulfilment, and therefore it has to come from inside. Every individual has his or her own emotions and way of thinking and as a result of this no one can really say what happiness is and what happiness is not. However, universally, happiness is a by-product of a healthy attitude and viewpoint. Happiness exists in everyone whether they choose to acknowledge and believe it or not. It is not rare nor is it something only the elite have: everyone has it but not everyone recognizes it. Contentment is finding a light at the end of every dark tunnel and in order to experience this we must ignore the pessimism surrounding us and remind ourselves that happiness is not a materialistic object but a choice and frame of mind.
According to Webster dictionary the word Happiness in defined as Enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure, satisfaction, or joy. People when they think of happiness, they think about having to good feeling inside. There are many types of happiness, which are expressed in many ways. Happiness is something that you can't just get it comes form your soul. Happiness is can be changed through many things that happen in our every day live.
Happiness is a feeling that humans naturally desire. Without it, one feels incomplete. In this generation, happiness has taken on a definition by how we are presented to one another. It is measured by how much money we have, how famous we are, or the things we possess. When in reality, none of these things guarantee a happy life. Happiness is something that cannot be bought with money, but rather, it must be found, earned, sought after. Each and every one of us has our own list of things that we consider to make us happy. However, happiness shines brightest through the relationships we create, and the goals we make for ourselves to strive after. Along with these two essential sources, we then can mix and match those things in life that we enjoy to create our own unique formula for happiness.
But in this debate, one question still raises its head - What is happiness? Happiness is not actually leading a luxurious life, but the luxury of living a life. Happiness is not actually about expanding your business, but it lies in expanding the horizons of life. Happiness is not having a meal in the most famous restaurant, but having it with your most beloved family. It does not lie in attending honorable parties, but to attend a party with honor.
Happiness is a state of mind. The dictionary definition is "feelings of joy and pleasure mingled together”. A feeling of happiness is more than just an experience of joy or pleasure. It is a state of mind where the individual feels that “life is good”. As Aristotle says, “happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” I believe that everyone wants to be happy in life. One is abnormal if he prefers to be sad and alone.
I believe that happiness is the key to living a good and prosperous life. Through all of the sadness and hate in the world, happiness gives me hope. It gives not only me, but others hope and joy. Happiness gives us something to hold onto, therefore we cherish it as much as we can.
Happiness can come in different forms for each person. Some people dream of achieving great wealth to buy everything they ever wanted. Others may find simple tasks such as, reading a book, to make them happy. There are people who find happiness by making others happy, whether it’d be, feeding the homeless, or giving random compliments to strangers. I think that most people would agree that the purpose of life is happiness. There are several things that bring happiness to my world, which include, family, health, and laughter, among other things. Accomplishments can also bring happiness to people, which is what many people strive for during their lives. It can be a promotion, diploma, house, etc. It is usually something that is challenging,
