In the original three day diet analysis, Susanne Coleman found that she was not eating from all of the food groups recommended by the food pyramid. Particularly, she was not eating the amount of fruits, vegetables and grains recommended. While she felt she made wise food decisions, there was room for improvement. When completing another three day diet analysis, Susanne received different results. After completing the original three day diet analysis, Susanne has been more conscientious of her food choices. Since the first analysis, Susanne has begun to plan meals ahead and to pack her meals for the day to stay on track.
The NHS choices (2010) states that upholding a balanced diet is important for good health, this can be accomplished by giving the patient a selection of foods from the five major food groups. This indicates that we as professionals need to be giving the patients the right amount of food from each of the food groups. According to Bloomfield J, Pegram A (2012). They explain that there are many factors that can prevent patients within the hospital setting being given enough to eat and drink. It is important that we as professionals identify the factors which prevent the patient from receiving the right amount of food and water. According to Jeffries et al (2011) if we as nurses do not identify the factors it can cause malnutrition and other outcomes from postponed recovery, and also it could cause infections, which will then increases the patient’s time within hospital. Whiteing and Hunter (2008) stated that factors such as disruptions to mealtimes through preparation of investigations, or patients being absent from the ward when meals and drinks are served. The Weight Watcher’s program was founded in 1961 by Jean Nidetch, who had struggled with her weight throughout childhood and all of her adult life. She decided one day to try yet another diet ran by the New York City Board of Health in Manhattan close to where she lived. After two months she had lost 20 pounds, but she realized a very important component of the diet was missing, a support group of others to share their daily battles with their weight issues. She began writing down all the things she had learned from her meetings in Manhattan and started inviting friends over who were fighting their own battles with their weight. Soon this diet that starting out with a few lady’s in the middle of one lady’s living room would later become a world icon. In late 1961 the Weight Watcher’s Program began. By 1963, just two years Weight Watcher’s was incorporated and by 1967 Weight Watcher’s went global and became Weight Watcher’s International, Inc. including Canada, Puerto Rico, Great Brittain and Israel. To follow Berry’s advice at the dinner table, shopping is one of the most important steps. Berry says that “people what they want—or what they have been persuaded to want—within the limits of what they can get. They pay, mostly without protest, what they are charged (Berry 37).” That is because most shoppers are in a rush and don’t have time to analyze the product. Also, some people don’t have enough money in their pockets, so they just choose a random product without thinking that healthy food choices keep you healthy. Eating meals together as a family will encourage an environment that not only promotes healthier eating, but also allows time for family, for communication, nurturing family traditions, and their children learn life skills (Kaakinen et al., 2015). I will assist and encourage this family to find the time to shop, prepare, and eat together meals that are nutritious as well as healthy. Information and guidance would be provided to help the family understand the daily nutritional requirements of not only themselves, but also for their children. This family would need to take the initiative to learn the nutritional contents of food and be able to incorporate it into meals that provide these daily requirements. Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
The majority of men would also lack good advice or information to improve the nutritional choices. Since men rarely prepare meals, they are used to quick and easy unhealthy foods and they are not educated in the health foods which are available. Men would mostly rely on their partners or family members to provide the meals, knowing very little about the nutritional intake of each meal. The most popular solution to improving their health and exercise was to participate and engage in accompanied, physical, recreational activities. Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.

...omething to go. I found out that college student’s want foods that are quick, taste good, and cheap. The limitation to my research was that I only passed out ten surveys all at the cafeteria. Perhaps if I did more or passed them out at a different location I might have gotten different results. I also only interviewed two people, and a larger sample might have changed my results. Also only observing my roommates shopping might have limited me to what I always eat, other college students might buy healthier foods when they shop. Take a minute now and think about what you eat in an average day and see if you fall into the categories of eating unhealthy with the majority of college students. Next time you buy something to eat take a second and look what’s in it and think to yourself. Should I be eating this? Or is there something healthier that I could be eating?
While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. I had never realized how big of a role that the food that I eat plays in my everyday life. Eating has never been something that I really think about it is just something that I do. After I looking at the data of what I eat on Choose My Plate, I realized that my eating habits are far from balanced and that I needed to work on bringing my eating habits to a better balance. While there are a lot of things that I have been doing right, there are also many things that I can work on.
