The Advance of Science: Treating Diseases Differently during Greek Golden Age
The golden age of Greece, also known as the classical period between 500 – 323 BCE had a good government and strong economy that created opportunities for many advancements. These advancements can be seen from innovative ideas in philosophy, history, education, and science. The new ideas upset some people because they fear the change from tradition that would undermine society, but theses changes opened ways of developing scientific studies that later shape the characteristics of Western civilization (Hunt, 93). One of the most important progresses was improving science, especially in medicine. The improvements in medicine are transferred over to today's modern medicine.
Traditional medicine looked towards magic and religion to understand and heal diseases. People believed that evil spirits caused illness, where magic and rituals was often used as the cure. There were various cults …show more content…

Some of the symptoms that are associated with the disease are described as being mad and delirious from no obvious reason, committing strange acts, groan and shriek in their sleep, choking, and darting up and running our of doors. These people that show these symptoms usually return their healthy and rational self after a while, but these symptoms can occur not once but many times. People continue to believe that this disease is caused by a divine origin because they have adopted a healing method that consisted of purification and incantation because there is no treatment that would help (Lualdi, 67). People turn to superstition to shelter themselves because they are at loss of understanding on how and what can cause the disease due to inexperience in medicine.
