Hello and welcome…..
As a matter of formality I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bruce Richard and it gives me great pleasure to address you all today at Valencia High School. Thank you very much for this unique and rewarding opportunity. It is one I will never forget. I regard this as rewarding and memorable because I am being asked to recount my high school experiences and the impact they have had on me. This is particularly valuable in that I can retain this as a permanent record to look back and reflect upon in the future. As I look back in retrospect and ask myself if I always tried as hard as I could, I am left with the fact that maybe I didn’t put my entire effort into all my studies and take full advantage of the free education I was offered. As I recall, the subjects that most interested me, such as science and the hands on approach, tended to sustain my level of interest and motivation. On the other hand, subjects such as government and others were harder to stay focused on for some reason. I am certain that most students have the same experience. I guess some things just require us to buckle down a little more in order to really learn.
(Brief Pause)
I am truly proud of the fact that I shared in the successes of the school as I was part of the drama class for four years and helped us win 5th place amongst 60 schools for the “Taming of the Shrew”. I played varsity football in my senior year where we had a great 9-2 season. As I go on to Fullerton, I only wish I had stuck to my intentions of playing all four years, instead of being influenced by other people, particularly the opposite sex. I have learned that it is important to stick to your convictions if you feel as strongly about them as I did. When I was part of the cross country team in my sophomore and junior years I did quite well and always gave it my all, learning the value of struggling to achieve by discovering more about myself and my abilities. The part of me I never thought existed gave me the confidence to know that anything can be accomplished with the right determination and desire. I am committed to succeed and looking forward to playing football at Fullerton.
...k now through everything. We should know no matter what we are put through, we can always come out on top. Our determination as a team lead us to do what many believe that we could not do, winning the state championship game against the nation number one team making the Pearland Oilers Texas Division 5A State Champions.. Even though the damages of football can be permanent over a long period of time it changed my life and I would do it all over again.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
He wants safe and secure life for all people living on this great nation. Obama not only uses the strategy of emotional stories of children to persuade his audience, he uses real mass shooting events to capture the audience emotions, as invites all the country to step with him and face this problem that’s threaten our safety. During the speech his reveling many sorrow events to encourage us to take this big move with him. Obama connects to the audience and expresses to them that he is the one that is going to make proper changes to this great
In this essay, I will identify the main tenets of Behaviourism, Cognitive and Humanist and state how each claims learning happens. I will analyse two principles and how they affect the way we plan and deliver learning. Furthermore, I will reflect on the impact of these insights on my own practice and professional development.
President uses variety of ways to gain trust from his audience, he displays confidence as he speaks, addresses his previous works; the killing of one of the most dangerous and feared terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden and his sub-leaders in Somalia and Yemen. By mentioning his previous success of destroying the terrorist leaders, he makes his audience feel safe by letting them know that America can do it again. It gives the people who were watching the speech a sense of security and the sense of America’s power over the terrorist groups, ultimately letting the people know that America will not only stop the ISIL, but also bravely destroy them. In the United States (maybe in the entire world), the US’s president is seen as the most powerful individual in the world. Which means that president Obama already has many people, and in this case; many viewers who were watching the speech that trust and supports him. Moreover, in this speech Mr. President expands his credibility even wider by being fearless and by showing confidence in America, as the people have confidence in him. He reminds the people about the power America poses, and he assures the people that ISIL will indeed be destroyed. Throughout the speech, he cites several incidents where America was successful in invading the ISIL, for example, the 150 airstrikes in Iraq. By using his credibility strategies, Obama inform his viewers about the chaos and the threats ISIL
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
When I was in elementary school, I loved to read. I was a total nerd back then ... okay maybe I still am, but one thing has changed. Now I don't so much like reading. My favorite poet was Shel Silverstein, who wrote "Where the Sidewalk Ends." He seemed like he was a total hippie, but that's cool because I like hippies. My grandma is a recovering hippie. I like her too. Anyway, Shel Silverstein wrote about the coolest things. He wrote about magical erasers, eating whales and a boy with long hair flying away from people who were taunting him. He captured all of the things that I loved without knowing that I actually loved them. Now you may ask, how does this hippie relate to our graduation? Well, he wrote a poem entitled "Traffic Light" and this is how it goes:
Being Marefat's first graduating class to complete all four years, one can say we've acquired a higher level of school wisdom than any previous class. We've formed traditions, we've set records, and we've made a lot of friends along the way. I remember our freshman year when we could use the excuse of being a new school for every shortcoming we encountered. I remember our sophomore year, the last time I cleaned my bedroom, when Marefat had its first senior class, and the school seemed to shrink for some reason. Last year we were the juniors, and we conquered the SAT tests: And made it through those busy days where you hadn't quite found room in your schedule to pencil in a bathroom break, dinner or sleep. Well, this year we were the kings and queens, there was Star Wars, Starbucks, and a certain football team lost its winning streak to the mighty Knights. Looking back we can see our accomplishments and the marks we made. Now, we must take all that we have learned in our years at Marefat and apply it to our future. Just as we have set traditions here, we must enter the world ready to tackle new problems and work out new solutions. We are the ones who can break all of those records that have been set, and have our names etched in history. It's our turn -- the world is ours and we just have to decide what we want to do with it.
Educational philosophies differ from person to person. From behaviorist to constructivist and everything in between, the one thing they have in common is that they attempt to explain how people learn. This paper will explain why I tend to lean toward the constructivist theory of education and defend this theory using a variety of current literature. It is important to note that the theories that are talked about as educational theories are often looked at as both theories of teaching and learning; however most of these theories are not theories of teaching but rather learning (Baviskar, Hartle, Whitney, 2009). This may be especially true for constructivism where there can be a common misunderstanding of what constructivism actually is and how to apply it to learning.
Wilson and Kolb (1949) cited in (Colser, 1964) trusted that conflict has a “disjunctive” effect. Some other scholars have agreed with this view for instance, Park and Burgess (1991) and Simmel (1955) each communication among the people is an interaction so it is conflict (cited Colser, 1964). Many of scholars take conflict positively as it is a means to resolve and avert totally splitting or separation. Bohannan (1967: XI-XIV) believed that conflict to be basic as culture is in society (Thakore, D. 2013) that might lead the society and control the social problems with better cultural progress and care of social orders. Schellenberg (1996) stated that, conflict is a flexible approach therefore, it can be used positively and negatively both however it is neither bad not good but it is most significant in human social
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
After researching and further examining the theories I will address the ways they have effected my planning and delivery of learning. I have identified that Behaviourism and Cognitivism are present in the planning and delivering of my lessons. I use behaviourism as this principle has the element of motivation due to my learners having low confidence and self-esteem there is a higher need to focus on building their motivation to successfully complete the course. Positive and negative reinforcement allows the management of behaviour in the lesson encouraging positive behaviour whilst removing inappropriate and negative aspects. I adapt my lesson plans to incorporate feedback and praise and address any areas for learners to improve upon.
'Not only is conflict a fact of social life, but conflict has positive virtues and brings out some of the best in men. ' It turns out that these very scientists are no more willing than is the rest of mankind and encourage conflict within any body of men they themselves are responsible for.” (Elias, N., & Dunning, E, 1986). Conflict is viewed simply as the equilibrium sum of resources that
Conflict is rarely something anyone enjoys. By applying some simple thought to conflict and conscience effort to seek resolution, conflict can be survived and new growth can be generated from it.
Conflict can happen anytime of your life, it will happen matter you want it or not. In addition, it can have both negative and positive impacts for our relationship (Gudykunst, 2004). According to Yi-Feng 2007, she mentions that conflict is “incompatible activities, where one person’s actions are interfering, obstructing, or in other ways making the behavior of another less effective”. In term of nature of conflict, conflict is a cause which happens by threatened human needs problem (Kelman, 2002). The sources of conflict can divide into three things, there are misinterpret, disagree and perceptions of incompatibilities (Roloff, 1987). In addition, in term of nature of nature of conflict, conflict can develop in four aspects (Donohue, 1993). Firstly, people tend to perpetuate themselves and conflicts always take place within a context (Kelman, 2002). Thirdly, conflict always have implications for the relationship and lastly, conflict can get out of control because people think that conflict has only negative site (Kelman, 2002).
