I am very proud to call myself an American. Living in this country has benefitted me and those around me greatly, so I feel great respect for what it has done. We as a nation have gone through very perilous times, which have all shaped our character for who we are today. We are a nation who has made great sacrifices to obtain equality for all men, races, and characters. We have a strong national defense that protects us from all foreign and interior harm. We have many opinionated groups of people who run our government. It is these things that I feel make us a great nation. We have a number of rights we are privileged within this nation. We have the freedom of speech, to say whatever we want, the right to religion, so we can believe what we …show more content…
want, the right to petition, to stand for what we believe in. We can own firearms, privacy of our property from law enforcement or anyone for that matter, just trial by jury, and many more. These rights were not just handed to us.
Great sacrifice from those before us went into securing these blessings of liberty. Our forefathers fought bravely against Britain to secure independence for our new nation. But how could we defend against the largest military power on the Earth? After all, we were just a ragtag militia of farm boys who barely knew how to fashion a bayonet. But we were able to adapt to our surroundings, make a change in combat, and was able to drive off the biggest military power on Earth. Our national military is one of the biggest in the world. Our advancements in warfare technology have progressed greatly. We have five branches in our military. The Army, Navy, Air force, Marine Corps, and the Coast guard. The Army was the first branch of the United States military ever created, which in fact predates the United States itself. Created July 14th, 1775, it is the largest and oldest branch in the US military. The army is the USA’s go to for when in wartime, having participated in every war that the US has gotten involved in. The coast guard, is a branch in the military that serves in defending coastal regions of both domestic and international waters. Its job is to protect its designated coast from enemy air attacks, and sea attacks. The …show more content…
coast guard and the US navy were the two branches that fell victim to the bombing of pearl harbor in December 7 of 1941 also known as “The day of infamy,” which lead to declaring war on Japan. The United states Navy is another big part of the United States military. Although there haven’t been many ocean to ocean battles in the past ten or some years, it still serves as a large part of our national defense. Aircraft carriers launch helicopters and Jets from its deck, while other ships may launch explosives at land. They perform many operations, and serve as the mobile base when no land is available. But the special forces for the US Navy is one of the finest on Earth. The Navy SEALS stands for SEa Air and Land. They perform many special operations that normal military branches cannot perform. They move in small teams, and specialize in guerilla warfare. Whether it be jumping out a helicopter at 6,000 feet, or swimming a mile to shore, these guys do it all. The infamous SEAL team six are the ones responsible for killing Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group who committed 9/11! And lastly, the Marines. The USMC is widely known for its amphibious, aerial, and land operations. They are known as the Army’s bigger brother. All of these branches have different jobs, and all protect our freedom from foreign enemies. They all require the bravery and courage of the men and women who fulfill their duty to our United States of America. Our country is also significant for how our government works.
Our founding fathers were very courageous and intelligent for their ideas and motivation of creating our country the way it is. No country had ever tried such a representative government, and our founding fathers saw that the needs of the people should be first. One of these ideas was to have different political parties, or groups of citizens with similar ideas and morals. These groups elect representatives to go represent their opinions on how we should run the government. When our government was first created, it was a debate between the Federalists and Antifederalists. The Federalists wanted more power in the national government as opposed to more power to the states, which was the opinion of the Antifederalists. Nowadays, we have the Republicans and the Democrats. The Republicans believe strongly in free market, capitalism. Capitalism is an economy where there are little to no restrictions and regulations on owning a business. They are also strongly opposed to same sex marriage and abortion. The Democrats, are strong believers in socialism, which is where everyone is given equal opportunity and pay. They also believe in social justice and opportunity, and universal healthcare, as well as environmental protection. The current president of the United States, President Barack Obama, represents the Democrat
party. America’s freedoms and rights were hard earned. We sacrificed many lives to give protection and opportunity to the people in the United States. We are very fortunate to have a home such as this. John Maxwell Edmonds once said, “When you go home and tell them of us and say; for your tomorrow, we gave our today.” This quote talks about the people who will give their lives so that the peoples lives may be better. This saying is widely used in the military today. The US truly is the land of the free.
As the young colonies of America broke away from their mother country and began to grow and develop into an effective democratic nation, many changes occurred. As the democracy began to grow, two main political parties developed, the Jeffersonian Republicans and the Federalists. Each party had different views on how the government should be run. The Jeffersonian Republicans believed in strong state governments, a weak central government, and a strict construction of the Constitution. The Federalists opted for a powerful central government with weaker state governments, and a loose interpretation of the Constitution. Throughout the years, the political parties have grown, developed, and even dispersed into totally new factions. Many of the inconsistencies and changes can be noted throughout the presidencies of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
There have been many different parties surface since the beginning of the American political system. They all have had different thoughts, policies, and motivations. Each party has their own agenda some have made significant contributions and others have not. The first split, and beginning of the party system, came with the variation between the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. These two parties were extremely different in thought, strategies, and status of people involved such as their leaders and believes on how to run the government. The Federalists worked to create a stronger national government, supported British in foreign affairs, and favored a national bank. The Democratic-Republican Party operated to advocate states’ rights, supported the French in foreign affairs and opposed a national bank. These are some of the differences that set apart these two major government Parties.
In today's day in age, the Democratic and Republican parties seem to be completely diverse. These two parties have completely opposing views on topics ranging from social issues, health care, tax policy, labor and free trade, foreign policy, crime and capital punishment, energy and environmental issues, and even education. Once upon a time however, these two groups were not as polarized as they have become. Both were once a single party known as the Democratic-Republican Party, formed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in 1791. This sole party favored the idea of a decentralized, democratic government. They despised the idea of the U.S government becoming anything similar to England's monarchy system at the time. They also supported states’ rights as well as the literal and strict interpretation of the U.S Constitution. The group's purpose was to stand against the Federalists who were
In the early planning stages of the American Government, two main political parties were formed by the feuds of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Hamilton and his supporters were called the Federalists and Jefferson’s supporters were called the Anti-Federalists. The two groups had opposing ideals on how the newly formed government should be run. The Federalists believed that only the rich should rule the country, and therefore wanted to raise voting qualifications. Additionally, they favored a strong central government, and wanted to spend money, increasing the national debt. On the contrary, Anti-Federalists did not trust the privileged, instead they trusted the farmers and common people, hence, wanted to lower voting qualifications. Furthermore, the Anti-Federalists favored strong state governments and wanted to limit national spending in order to pay off the national debt. These opposing views divided the Americans into two factions, and consequently created the first political parties.
Even though there are other parties that do exist in the United States the two main parties in the government are the Democratic and Republican parties. Instead of only one party that controls the government there are two parties. Having the two-party system in the United States is beneficial because a two-party system allows there to be a stable balance in the government. The Democratic party believes in the idea that there should be equal rights. That the government should be more active in the lives of people in need. Meaning that the government should be taking care of all their citizens. On the other side there’s the Republicans party takes care of owners that are from both large and small business. Having a two party system allows each party to focus on the interest and opinions of the people because each group consists of individual voters. Both parties try to do what's best for the county. Democratic believe that people should have the right to abortion their child because it is their body and they should have a choice to do what they want. Republicans have their own opinion on abortion. They believe that the unborn child also has rights too. That that baby should have the right to live. Each party voices their opinions and the people can decided which side they are for. Having two political parties allows what is necessary to make political decisions because each party has to think about the interest and opinions of the people, so that they can continue to receive the support from them. Political parties work together to get their candidate elected. After their candidates are elected into office, they work together to decide what laws to pass. The main goal of any political party is to win elections so that they could decide what is right for their government. People in the United States when they register to vote, they
The founding fathers based this country on freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, press, assembly, petition. Freedom to have your own opinion about the founding fathers. Freedom to have your own opinion on how our government should run. So with this much freedom, it's obvious someone's going to disagree. And that's where political parties come in. The Federalists versus the Anti-Federalists, a 210-year battle which still carries on today with the Democrats and Republicans. These first parties were very different, and each had their own view on how our country would be run, and how it would end up.
Before America was its own country there were contradicting ideas and notions of how things should be done, these different feelings eventually manifested themselves when it came down to the ratification of the Constitution there were those who wanted it passed and those who were opposed to it. Over time these two groups developed such different ideas that it would have been impossible for them to all converse as one party since they wanted different things and instead developed two, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists later to be known as the Democratic-Republicans. Although Washington and other political officials recognized the danger of these two parties it would seem that there was no other way. The formation of more than one party
Americans can sometimes take our veterans and our military for granted. I am proud to be an American. I am proud of our government system, our history, and this land. I am thankful for the positive impact our beautiful flag has made on the world.
This is my first official post of the new year, I have been conferring with my family and friends about me running for the U.S. Congress and the answers I received from them are overwhelmingly why not Mike! I'm going to tell you a little about my views I believe in our peoples willingness to do hard work so that they can overcome and achieve the American dream, I believe in the notion of perpetuating the American ideas of freedom and justice for all, and I believe in the sanctity of our constitutional republic and all that it stands for. Now I know I'm not going to get VERY MANY LIKES manly because there being too many words. So I'll leave you with this promise, to all of my Facebook friends and before Almighty God; I will fight and die for
I am the flag of the United States of America. Many of you see me on flagpoles flying high up in the sky. My mother, Betsy Ross, stitched me together with 13 white stars and 13 red and white stripes in the 1700’s. She made me to show the pride and freedom of all those who live in the United States. I represent those who have died, those who are living, and those who are soon to come.
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..." This one sentence grants a vast amount of privileges. Being an American means that one is blessed with natural, born rights. These prerogatives are protected and permanent. "Freedom of speech, religion, press, the right to bear arms..." The Bill of Rights also grants a variety of freedoms. Without them, one would be restricted on what is said, believed, worshiped, and other infringements on personal lives. However, every price has to be paid; someone has to contribute to these freedoms. To be an American means that one has the pride, honor, and gratification to live in a country where a man’s life is
When I hear the words America or United States I immediately think of a safe environment, a place where I can be myself. Although I’m not an American citizen I have lived here for four years and from what I have learned and seen with my own eyes is that Americans not only have Bravery but also cooperation and resilience. Any person that has moved here or was born here in our great nation is proud to be here and is willing to fight for this country because this country fought for us. I am so happy to be in the United States and so many other people are grateful to be here too.
In the Constitution of the United States of America there are a set of rights implemented for the people to ensure their rights
As an American, you should be able to accept others as fellow equals, because they probably have the unimaginable love for America like you do. Also, no matter how many tough times we have, we, Americans, need to stand together and unite as one. Finally, you should always embrace America as your homeland. No one should ever be ashamed to show their patriotism for this great country. With all of this in mind, being an American means that you should feel safe but loyal and dedicated to your new country.
Being an American citizen is something that many people want to accomplish yet some may never get to. Americans is one of the few countries in the world who practice democracy and freedom of speech. American citizens are offered rights that would get citizens from other countries persecuted. I am proud to be an American but there are some issues in my country that I wish could be different. There are issues such as pay gap, racial discrimination, and poverty. I cannot save my country from all of the issues but I do plan on doing something to make a difference. I plan on using my education to open up my own business and providing people with jobs to help contribute with the unemployment gap and helping to end poverty.
