I am very proud to call myself an American. Living in this country has benefitted me and those around me greatly, so I feel great respect for what it has done. We as a nation have gone through very perilous times, which have all shaped our character for who we are today. We are a nation who has made great sacrifices to obtain equality for all men, races, and characters. We have a strong national defense that protects us from all foreign and interior harm. We have many opinionated groups of people who run our government. It is these things that I feel make us a great nation. We have a number of rights we are privileged within this nation. Great sacrifice from those before us went into securing these blessings of liberty. Our forefathers fought bravely against Britain to secure independence for our new nation. But how could we defend against the largest military power on the Earth? After all, we were just a ragtag militia of farm boys who barely knew how to fashion a bayonet. But we were able to adapt to our surroundings, make a change in combat, and was able to drive off the biggest military power on Earth. Our national military is one of the biggest in the world. Our advancements in warfare technology have progressed greatly. We have five branches in our military. The Army, Navy, Air force, Marine Corps, and the Coast guard. The Army was the first branch of the United States military ever created, which in fact predates the United States itself. Created July 14th, 1775, it is the largest and oldest branch in the US military. The army is the USA’s go to for when in wartime, having participated in every war that the US has gotten involved in. The coast guard, is a branch in the military that serves in defending coastal regions of both domestic and international waters. Our founding fathers were very courageous and intelligent for their ideas and motivation of creating our country the way it is. No country had ever tried such a representative government, and our founding fathers saw that the needs of the people should be first. One of these ideas was to have different political parties, or groups of citizens with similar ideas and morals. These groups elect representatives to go represent their opinions on how we should run the government. When our government was first created, it was a debate between the Federalists and Antifederalists. The Federalists wanted more power in the national government as opposed to more power to the states, which was the opinion of the Antifederalists. Nowadays, we have the Republicans and the Democrats. The Republicans believe strongly in free market, capitalism. Capitalism is an economy where there are little to no restrictions and regulations on owning a business. They are also strongly opposed to same sex marriage and abortion. The Democrats, are strong believers in socialism, which is where everyone is given equal opportunity and pay. They also believe in social justice and opportunity, and universal healthcare, as well as environmental protection.
