Maintaining a good work ethic is very important, but developing one is even more vital. A good work ethic is simply this source of power within everyone that allows one to work diligently or get the task at hand done. Three great ways to develop a good work ethic would be creating habits, staying away from procrastination, and maintaining a good work ethic. Once a good work ethic is developed in someone, then working in school, at work or wherever work is being done becomes easier. Creating habits would be a vital way to start developing a good work ethic. A great habit to consider starting is to become persistent until all of the labor is done. For example, If there is a research paper due for a class, using all the time allotted to finish the paper would be a great way of staying persistent. A way of staying persistent that is useful is by staying away from others to have alone time to stay on task. Also persistence can determine how long the periods of time that …show more content…
Getting to work on time is a crucial thing that one must always remember. Check over the work every single time no matter how many times it is checked; this is a great way of finding mistakes. Two great ways of maintaining a good work ethic would be to keep improving every day and keep an optimistic attitude. These are two of the most helpful pieces of advices to aid in a healthy work ethic. Improving everyday more and more would be a good attribute for good work ethic. The best way to improve more would be simply by getting the task done sooner and sooner each and every individual time. Setting goals is definitely a big step, harder the goals are the better one gets at doing the tasks. Basically the best way of improving is training the brain to take on heavier workloads each time that a task is given. There are even ways to train the brain that are fun such as word searches or other mind games that can
In the essay, “The Work Ethic, In A Modern Guise”, author Joanne B. Ciulla talks about how the modern style of working is different from the traditional and old work ethic, and how the young and coming generation does not want to work hard but instead wants instant results. The long lasting formula of working hard and performing seems to be fading away. Instead of mastering the subject, students care about the final results and brownie points. Moreover, Ciulla asserts that students engage in activities that pay-off well in the end rather than the excellence of the work. In the article, Ciulla describes the situation of today’s students being more centred about the idea of getting a higher grade. According to Ciulla, students do not show determination but they want second-chances so that they can have a better grade than before. Students want that better grade simply because they have put a lot of time. Sometimes, professors unreasonably give students a higher grade which leads to a false confidence among students which is the root of other causes. In the end o...
Habit 3 is Put First Things First. Personally, I struggled with putting first things first as I was a procrastinator but, I have finally conquered myself and I am no longer in Quadrant 1! You see, there are different time quadrants which tell you if you are a 1. Procrastinator, 2. Prioritizer, 3. Yes-Man and 4. Slacker. You need to always stay on top of things and stay in quadrant 2 but it’s not easy, so you must work very hard for it to become a natural thing for you. Another way to becoming a prioritizer is to realize what your big rocks are and what your small rocks are. In other words, take notice of what is important first and those will be your big rocks to accomplish first. Only then will you have space for all the small rocks. Lastly, don’t let fear control you, control your fear. It’s okay to make mistakes if you’re trying to do the right thing. On page 121 in the 7 Habits book, Sean Covey says “Winning means rising each time you fail.” This is telling you that although you failed, if you are willing to rise and try again and pick up your broken pieces, that is winning. This is a hard habit to conquer but once you do it, it will change your
In the article, “The Way We Worked”, Tom Brokaw describes his fathers and other individuals’ work ethic during the Greatest Generation. The Greatest Generation took place during World War II and the Great Depression. Brokaw points out that the Greatest Generation was a generation known for their capacity of work, “As I researched the lives of the men and woman who came of age in the Great Depression, went through World War II, and built the country we know today, I was struck by how many of them went to work in their early teenage years. They had to work because their families needed the extra income for food, for clothing, to meet that month's rent” (Brokaw 274). In “The Way We Worked”, Brokaw's theme demonstrates examples of the different work ethic of the Greatest Generation and modern generation.
The American work ethic is something our country should be proud of. Since the days of George Washington Americans have worked hard for what they believe in, what they need, and what they want. It is our right as Americans to be able to work for these ideals. Without out a strong work ethic our country would crumble. From businessmen to politicians a strong work ethic is necessary to keep our country financially and politically stable.
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
There have been countless times in my life where I have struggled to stay focused on a task ahead of me. I always plan out my work time ahead in order for me to complete a task, but every time I find that I have to revise my plan every day closer to the deadline. The little work that I should have done each day turns into a tremendous amount of work before the due date. Occupying myself with other things that keep me entertained, only brings me a lot of distress at the end. As I continue to torture myself , this bad habit of mine continous to dwell inside of me. One could say that there may be many implied meanings to this concept, but nevertheless, this force that messes with me everyday is considered to be procrastination.
It may take a long time to make progress in these skills but what I need to remember and implement is the strategies that I have mentioned. Also in this process I will be able to find out whether these strategies work on me or not and if there are other strategies that can help in improving my skills.
Throughout my life, I have strived to be a hard-working individual when it comes to school, my job, and family work. I always try to work quickly and efficiently, and make my work the best that it can be. Perfectionism is a major part of my life and that is one of the driving forces behind my hard work. Sometimes the drive to be perfect can limit my results, but I try my hardest to keep it from restricting me. I always give one hundred percent when it comes to completing various tasks, and find pride in being a hard-worker.
Do not procrastinate. Choose a task and start working on it. Delaying a task will only make it that much hard to get started. Commit yourself to working on the task for a specific amount of time each day until it is completed.
In society, most people will work for many different reasons. Some will work based on the needs of money to survive, some require money to feed their love ones, and some just need money for their own leisure. In life, most people work just to stay busy, and even work until it’s time for them to retire. When applying for a job, the employer will ask for a résumé or a job application. When the information is given, it contains a work history which is a detailed report of all the jobs that a person has held, including company name, job title, and dates of employment. Companies typically required that applicants must provide their work history when applying for a job. A person’s work history is used by prospective employers to verify the information that a person has provided and to be contacted by pervious employers for background checks.
Ethics in the workplace is a very important thing to have. Without a sense of ethicality in the workplace there are many things that could go wrong. You could even end up losing a job because of a lack of ethics, or other consequences could be felt due to a lack of caring or morality. The workplace is a place that you should show respect and dignity, and a deeper sense of ethics is very important in order to uphold these senses of morality. Workplace ethics, which include such things as behavior, integrity, commitment, teamwork, and other things, are important, if not required, in most workplaces and can help to improve performance and morale for workers and employers.
Describe and explain how this factor can potentially have a positive influence on workplace relationships
When it comes to being persistent there are some important traits that need to be mastered which aren’t that easily to have, these traits are having patience and time. This means that when you want to achieve your goal you need to do it step by step gradually getting better and better over time. When it comes to time you need to be fully dedicated to the task you want to
Another large debate in the issues and impacts of obesity is the responsibility of employer’s. Especially for those whose obesity comes from a sedentary lifestyle. Or perhaps need the preventative measures of keeping obesity at bay. A hot topic on the rise is whether or not employers should be mandated to give employees a work-out period in their schedule. The employers could offer employee’s incentives for utilizing resources (a company gym, discounted memberships, and dietician, walking a company track) and by using the resources keep costs low. Though initially it could be costly to take on the responsibility to offer extra incentives to employee’s it could offer long term potential savings. (Villareal, Apovian, Kushner, and Klein 2005) Those whose companies offer various programs and actively engage in them express more happiness, productivity, a greater quality of life, and overall better health. Better health allows for employee’s to serve their employers better. They use less sick pay, keep insurance premiums low, and are more likely to be in tune with their daily job. So while the initial cost may be high, the long term financial gain of a happy, healthy, productive team is hard not to invest in!
