Recommended: The importance of setting goals
In all things, success depends upon the previous preparations. And the first step in preparation to succeed is to know where we are going. Deciding what would ultimately lead you to success is the biggest question. Whether it’s your job, or it is the thing you are passionate about. Unable to deal with this dilemma may sometimes lead you nowhere. Here is where your hedgehog’s concept comes into the picture.
Hedgehog’s Concept, based on my readings from my latest book ‘Good To Great by Jim Collins’ helps to associate you with a goal that would take you to success. It guides your efforts and aligns your actions by developing the very clear vision of your Success.
According to Jim Collins, hedgehog’s concept is a simple crystalline concept that

It may be teaching, photography, developing a new product, it can be anything.
Being passionate about your work keeps you going beyond your stretch.
Circle 2: Talent…
What can you be the best in the world at? Understanding yourself much better. Whether it is inborn genetically encoded talent or skill learnt over years helps you know the answer where your success lies.
Make sure it is equally important to know what you cannot be the best in the world at. This makes discerning much beyond your core competency. Just because you possess core competency or you have been doing it for years doesn’t necessarily means you can be best in the world at it.
Conversely, what you can be best at might not be something which you are currently engaged. Doing what you are good at only makes you good, but solely focusing on what you can do better than others will make you great.
Circle 3: Cash Flow…
What drives your economic engine? Knowing your ‘Profit per X’, where X solely has the greatest impact on your

For example, for business, it may be the ‘profit per customer’. In my case being an engineer at a multinational corporation, my profitability comes from my actions. My highest profitability comes by ‘output generated per action’. Try to figure out yours.
For the initial period, cash flow needs not necessarily to be the activity you are passionate and skill full about. It may be from the subsidiary activities that would back you up in you success.
According to Jim, success lays at the overlap all these three circles. But I would love to elaborate it a little further using perception based on my read through from autobiographies of successful people.
There may be four combinations formed from above three circles.
Comb 1: Passion + Talent…
It’s the combination where the liver would be happy because he is passionate about something in which he is having extraordinary talent. But he would be poor. Lack of no or poor economic engine would create financial struggle which would exhaust him and not let solely work on his
you succeed or will you fail? It is not for you to decide, you have
Introduction- In order to succeed in life, you have to be open to trying new experiences, even if you know you might fail. If you do fail, you have to persevere and try again if you want to reach your goal. To become better than you are, you must be exposed to new ideas and moments of failure and doubt.
Finally, leadership, my most valuable skill. Leadership is useful in any career and any situation. In band, I've used it a lot. Now that I'm going into the real world and my career, I know I will use it even more. My leadership has rewarded me personally. I feel like I have already made a difference in the lives of my peers. Leadership can get me anywhere in life and I expect that this alone could get me all the way to my college graduation. These skills in combination will keep me on top, and hopefully at the top of my college
I agree with the author Ralph Waldo Emerson about the principle that someone must do something that they have not mastered if they hope to grow in that craft. It is a simple concept that if you stay where you are at then you will never get better and people around you will continue to grow and eventually become better at their craft than you are. Some examples can be found in athletics and academics. In athletics it is vital that you test yourself in skills that you have not mastered if you hope to be ahead of your peers in your sport.
After reading this book, readers might take a step back and rethink about their career moves before making decisions. The author holds an interesting position on if people should follow their passion. According to the author, following your passion blindly is not a wise choice for those who want to be successful. He supports that mastering a skill, building enough career capital and following the law of financial viability are three important characters a successful business person should have.
A hedgehog Concept is not an objective to be the greatest, a plan or approach to be the best. It is the knowledge of what you can be the very best at. And the difference is totally essential. You really don’t have to begin by being the top at it. You only need to realize what you possibly will be the best at.
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.

A person needs to achieve certain goals in one's life before you can call them successful. Success is to achieve goals, you have set. I have set certain goals I would like to achieve in my lifetime. Some of these goals are personal while others are professional. My professional goals in life are to find a good job that makes me happy, get a good education, find a job that makes enough money for me to support my family, and help people. Goals it is very important for me to receive a good education. Most job fields require a descent education. If I don't have an education I would not be able to function properly at the work place and I would not understand what to do. To maintain a good job that will make good money will require me to go thorough schooling or training and maybe even both. Education is the first and foremost way to become successful, because the job I will choose will need me go to school and maybe even beyond college. These are the skills I already have such as: communication; personal skills; motivational; creative and time management skills. These I have previously acquired will help me to be successful in my career. To know how far on the scale of these specific skills I will have to do a self-assessment. A self-assessment is a very important tool used by managers in all industry. Sometimes you can’t possibly remember what you have done and how to improve yourself and by assessing my own skills this will allow me to remember all of my personal achievements and personal disappointments. This is a form of feedback which requires the assessor to be completely honest to themselves and in order f...
As my knowledge in the PULSE classroom has been increasing, so has the understanding of the idea behind the good life. In this essay, I will be redefining what the good life means to me. Although an immense amount of what I wrote about in regards to the good life in my last paper is still pertinent to the idea of what I believe the good life is, there are ideas such as mindfulness and the hermeneutics of charity that have expanded on this idea. In this essay, I will be comparing what I defined as the good life last semester, with what I view the good life as now. I will also talk about how the work of Steve Pope introduced me to the idea of models and exemplified the idea that no one is perfect, even in terms of service.
Fundamental understanding and implementation of true personal talent propels individual success. Rath (2007) insisted that developing talent involves great strive and efforts; however, the opportunity to grow in this aspect is limited. In 2001, Gallup created an assessment to help individuals “uncover their talents” (Gallup, Inc., 2016). Rath (2007) emphasized that these talents are not to be misunderstood as strengths. He makes a clear distinct between the two concepts by offering that talent as well as knowledge, skills, and experience are elements of strength.
The skill that I am the best at or at least would give myself the highest score in would be showing empathy. I am not sure why I am skilled in this it just seems to come naturally to me. I have always found myself to be a very empathetic person who is able to understand the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and, attitudes of others almost as well as my own. One way that I have shown empathy is by being open to learning about the experiences of others including other cultures, races and religions. Learning about struggles of others and the impact their struggles have on the world as a whole has increased my ability to show empathy. I think that my empathetic nature has both helped me and hurt me in my life. It has helped me as a counselor, as
There can be no success without goals or targets. This is because success is relative to a set target and whether we have achieved it, or at least making steady progress towards attaining it. For you to succeed, set a goal, a measurable target that represents what you envision: that is what you want or where you see yourself in future. A goal should be measurable so as to enable you to monitor your progress and help you know whether you are on track or you have gone off.
