I agree with the author Ralph Waldo Emerson about the principle that someone must do something that they have not mastered if they hope to grow in that craft. It is a simple concept that if you stay where you are at then you will never get better and people around you will continue to grow and eventually become better at their craft than you are. Some examples can be found in athletics and academics. In athletics it is vital that you test yourself in skills that you have not mastered if you hope to be ahead of your peers in your sport. A specific sport where you must test yourself in is basketball. We all can start with dribbling a basketball slowly and looking down at the ground while dribbling, but in a real game scenario staring …show more content…
It's easy to stay at the level of catching nice soft passes from your friends out at recess, but if you want to exceed in real football it is vital that you test and push yourself. When you push yourself to catch the ball when it's being thrown faster and catching it awkward angles you are no longer a master at it but you are growing in skill. Both these examples hold the concept that you must push and test yourself if you want to grow in skill with that sport. The next example of this quote is in academics. In school it is easy for everyone to just take the basic classes and not push themselves, but the people who decide to take the advanced and more challenging classes will grow in intelligence. When people push themselves in school they are making their life in the long run better because when they push themselves they are not masters of the subject but they are growing huge amounts in intelligence which get them into a good college where if they push themselves even more they will graduate and find a job that pays them great money. On the other hand, the people who choose the easy route might make into low level college and barley graduate, but when they begin to look for a job it will become much more difficult then the people who pushed themselves in
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts”
The theory that the more one practices the better one becomes. To follow the dream of excellence you must practice your assignment for a total of 10,000 hours or more. “The students who would end up the best in their class began to practice more than everyone else: six hours a week by age nine, eight hours a week by age twelve, sixteen hours by age fourteen, and up and up, until the age of twenty they were practicing well over thirty hours a week” (39) in a sense this excerpt confirms what society has told people for years, that practice makes perfect. Of course some people are born with raw talent, however how does one expect to improve their abilities if they do not rehearse. Anyone can be mediocre without practice, but in order to make it in the big shots one must give their one hundred and ten percent to beat out the competition. It’s all about how one distinguishes themself from another and the only way to do that is to show off that skill that has been practiced repeatedly. Preferably 10,000 hours
a quote “ If you can’t change your fate , change your attitude” which is how today
By putting in the effort, you can be able to be successful within in the classroom and in any sport or elective that you may take part in. However , by limiting yourself to only what you have mastered will not allow you to grow as a person. As you mature you will realize that in order to become successful , sacrificing certain freedoms now will help you in the long run. Your objective should be to exceed others expectations of you.
This can help us to be more successful, teach us of challenging ourselves to reach new heights, never give up and motivate us to do more so to enhance our intelligence. Furthermore, having a growth attitude is not something conceptual or something no one but others can have. It’s an incredible inverse: there are particular things you can do each day to sustain a development attitude. In case I haven't made it clear enough already: skill is something you can cultivate, not merely something you're born with. You can become more creative, more intelligent, more athletic, more artistic, and more successful by focusing on the process, not the outcome. Instead of worrying about winning the championship, commit to the process of training like a champion. It's not about the result, it's about building the identity of the type of person who gets to enjoy those
Introduction- In order to succeed in life, you have to be open to trying new experiences, even if you know you might fail. If you do fail, you have to persevere and try again if you want to reach your goal. To become better than you are, you must be exposed to new ideas and moments of failure and doubt.
The quote itself can be translated into, an everyday person does not want to be happy and ambition. That person will settle with what will keep them alive. I agree with this quote for a few reasons. To begin, the people in today’s
The second example is the 10,000 hour rule. The 10,000 Hour Rule states that the more a person has an opportunity to practice at something, depending on your age, the more likely you are to be better at that then someone who practices less. Also, and maybe equally important is having the opportunity to practice a particular task or skill. The CEOs and Professional Athletes don’t just work harder than ...
I like this quote because it tells us the change in where humans think everything is good but once a modification is made everything can change. When that certain change is made, it can be painful depending on how you and mind handles it.
I agree with Emerson's statement because if you already master something that your good at and don't try new things then you can never learn. For example if I'm really good at football and I want to play basketball I can't just start on a team with knowing any of the rule. Another example would be applying for a job or trying to ride a motorcycle. Lets say I wanted to ride a motorcycle but I only knew how to drive a car. I can't just hop on a motorcycle and be able to ride it I have to learn how to ride one. I also have to take a test showing I know how to ride a motorcycle. If I only know how to drive a car and I don't want to learn how to ride a motorcycle but I want ride one I can't because I have no experience riding one.
This quote applies to the character Merlyn in The Once and Future King by T.H White. Merlyn is a major character who is a bit absent minded and has already lived the future. While Merlyn is perceived as someone who helps Arthur throughout his reign, he is actually hindering the protagonist. Some examples are the education Merlyn gave Arthur. While they did their job of teaching him life lessons, they also restricted Arthur and his
Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” Meaning the you have the power to motivate yourself to have a better power/life, and also to be open to new ideas. A good example is from Gladwell book (of Peterson’s argument is the story of how the Swedish furniture retailer IKEA hot start), to start a business you have to make some arrangement to the business, and to keep your hope way up high to keep motivating your staffs/employees your business is can keep growing to have better
This quote talks about how you need to take action now to be successful because there is not a lot of time left to become successful. I agree with this quote because every minute that you waste not contributing to your path to become successful, is a minute that you will never get back. You don't know when you will die or what will happen in the next hour so it is best that you start pursuing your dream or goal now. 4.
As soon as I read this quote I could not help but apply it to my teaching career. I do not believe that our students are empty vessels waiting to be filled with information and knowledge -rather students are partially-filled vessels with a wealth of experience, knowledge and preconceptions. My role as an educator, rather than as a teacher, is to engage the students to tap into this knowledge and challenge them, in order to further build on what they already know. I believe that the educational system should be tailored for each and every student according to their needs in order to bring out their full potential.
One reason why Emerson’s quote illustrates a valid idea is that taking risks can lead to success. Often, taking a risk is just the jump one needs to reach his or her goal. Many successful individuals have followed this concept to success, such as the founder of the radio website Pandora, Tim Westergreen. As stated by Forbes.com, when Westergreen’s company was just starting up, it suddenly ran short on money. At the risk of falling even further into debt, Westergreen took a risk to defer the salaries of his employees. Nonetheless, Pandora was able to get back onto its feet, and has become a great success as one of the most popular music websites. Another example of an accomplishment that stemmed from taking risks is Christina McHale’s experience. As stated by Forbes.com, the now-professional tennis player quit traditional school to become homeschooled in order to focus on her dream of playing tennis. Even though her chances of entering a top university were uncertain with a homeschooled diploma, McHale was eventually able to become a great tennis player and has even competed in the 20...
