Additional Thoughts: Majority of the quotes I like are chosen because they relate to modern-day situations. 1. “Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.” (Shelley 162) • I like this quote because it tells us the change in where humans think everything is good but once a modification is made everything can change. When that certain change is made, it can be painful depending on how you and mind handles it. 2. “I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous.” (Shelley 82) • I like this quote because the author makes me feel distressed for the monster. He is telling the reader that his personality is good, but his life is miserable due to all the conflicts he faces.
This quote has a significant meaning to me because of one main reason. That reason is
In life, things will change and you might have harsh or nice reactions to them. It might not be obvious, but everything is slowly changing. You also might need to push through some changes. In the short story, “Last Kiss” by Ralph Fletcher, the character experiences horrific change: his father and him are drifting away. He needs to push through this change. The story teaches that things will change even if you don’t want them to. The text teaches this in the beginning, in the middle, and most of all in the end.
Letters Frankenstein This passage is out of letter three, paragraph three. I chose this paragraph because it sounded interesting and it plays a very important part in this novel. Mary Shelley wrote this novel during the Industrial Revolution. The characters in this passage approached the North Pole, challenging the Northern Sea in July.
Loosing optimism shatters all chance at being happy. Pessimism towards life, is the root of all evil. Once you have reached that point in your life there is no recovering from it. The creature didn’t just lose acceptance and control, he lost hope. Mary Shelley's constant themes of metaphors and allusions are a constant reminder of the affects of loosing
Throughout all of history, people are shown to be most strongly driven by passion. This passion can either be born from negative emotions or positive emotions, which are both extremely powerful. Positive and negative emotions greatly affect how people perceive the world and how they interact with their surroundings. One of the most influential forms of negative feelings is despair: the soul-crushing, everlasting type of sorrow that has no end and beats a person with relentless grief. Despair causes detrimental behavior because it destroys positive interactions. In Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s character demonstrates how despair makes people become dishonest with themselves and others, creates changes in personality,
that what is evil in the short term may be good in the long term.
“The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds”
Man. The monster proclaims in his agony that he is “malicious because I am miserable,”
A quote that really stuck out to me was, “For it is said that humans are never satisfied,
This is like Victor when he is feeling self-pity for creating this monstrosity that is killed his friends and family. This quote also shows his desire to destroy his creation and how it is decaying him like a piece of dead meat from the inside out. The reader can notice this just after he has created his monster and also after the monster has killed all of Victor friends and family. After Victor created the monster he is in a state of denial where he is judging what he has done because it goes beyond the laws of nature. Victor tends to be like a bipolar person in the fact that he is moving towards a goal and then is depressed for days and days. The reader can start feeling pity for Frankenstein however Frankenstein brought this on himself because he chose to create something that goes beyond the natural way of things. This is why people should use one another especially when it comes to scientific experiments because others can 't keep you in check from doing something that is ethically and morally
“We will only change if we survive, but we will only survive unless we change.”
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong. Quoted by Richard Armour. A poet named Percy Bysshe Shelley was worried with the real world: He criticized and was against domination, dictatorship, and the misuse of political authority as a passionate, fervent supporter for liberty. In result of his political commitment there was a series of serious political poems accusing the conceit of power. Great poetry is great not because of what it says but because of how few poems say anything that is very profound; instead, the best of them use language in new, unforgettable, and effective ways and this is exactly what Percy Bysshe Shelley done! Good Morning and
Following the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars, Europe was left torn by economic decline, political turmoil, and uncertainty. Out of these events sprang writers who saw it as their duty to ease the social and political dilemmas through their inspirational writings. One of these Nineteenth century writers was Percy Shelley, who is known for the revolutionary and defiant ideas he expressed in his works. Many of his writings such as "A Song: 'Men of England,'" "The Mask of Anarchy," and "Ozymandias," reflect his radical political approach to solving England's troubles. Although Shelley does not explicitly voice a cry for socialism, his poems do call for a proletarian response to the tyrannical leaders of England, yet he ultimately fails in sparking a revolution due to several contradictions as well as the fact that they remained unpublished; based on these issues, Shelley became merely a precursor to the socialist ideas of the late Nineteenth century.

Running away from any problem only increases the distance from the solution. That quote helped me a lot and motivated me to be stronger. It showed me that I need to face my challenges.
