While it is definitely a good thing to have discovery skills when it comes to innovation, what happens if the person with such highly regarded skills is not very good at expressing those ideas to someone besides himself? Innovative ideas are not any good if they cannot be properly expressed to the right people. In order for innovative ideas to become successful products or services, they must be properly planned and executed, and finally someone must deliver the results to those who matter most; the customer. As with discovery skills, there are also a set of delivery skills that can be learned in order to make a person a better innovator. The most important skill, analyzing, studies a potential idea from a business point of view, making …show more content…
I scored a 44 on the discovery portion of the test which is a good indicator of my discovery skills. I have always been the type of person who asks a lot of questions and am a constant observer of everything because I prefer to observe something before I make give my opinion about it. While I am good at working alone I also excel at working in groups and encourage people around me to share their opinions so that I can learn from their knowledge while at the same time being able to make more informed decisions about whatever the subject may be. I can say that my one weak spot when it comes to discovery skills is that my ability to associate can be muted due to my tendency to occasionally get frustrated when I can't come up with a reasonable solution or idea. As a matter of fact I can honestly say that I sometimes let my emotions affect my ability to be a better innovator and I must work on not letting my emotions affect my leadership …show more content…
Although my score was on the low side with a 31, my friends are quick to say that I would make a great manager/leader because of my ability to motivate others to work hard. I feel my analyzing skills are also highly regarded. Where Irun into problems would be my planning skills. While I know how to plan well my follow through is where I can fail partially because I am not the fastest person in the world. I also do not take initiative when needed due to my tendency to sometimes daydream and occasionally get sidetracked. This can also have a undesirable effect on my execution skills. When I am on my game, however, my delivery skills are top notch. Ultimately if I want to be a more innovative leader and move up with my company then I need leave my feelings at the door and not let them affect my innovation skills. I also need to stay focused when I'm at work in order to get more done and earn more respect from my managerial
Before taking the StrengthsFinder® assessment I didn’t know what type of leader I was, but I felt I had leadership traits that I could not describe. After answering several questions from the Clifton StrengthsFinder® 2.0, I found out my top five strengths. These strengths consist of individualization, arranger, learner, input and responsibility. The purpose of this paper is to go over my top five strengths to talk about which four domains of leadership these strengths fall under, how class material is applied, and the actions to best utilize my strengths.
In order to become better leaders, individuals need to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Though individuals can identify strengths and weaknesses through formal processes, they can also use informal means such as self-reflection. The fact that individuals have a tendency to gravitate toward the things they do well, things such as ease of learning, tendency to participate in certain activities, and satisfaction gained from performing specific tasks can provide clear pointers to underlying talents (Key-Roberts, 2014).
According to Grossman and Valiga’s Leadership Characteristics and Skills Assessment, the interpretation of scores for perception of what makes a good leader gave me the following results: good perception of a good leader and the scores for perception of your own ability to lead resulted in low perceived leadership ability for myself (Grossman and Valiga, 2013). With these results, I have concluded that I have low confidence in my leadership skills and ability. This would be an area of improvement needing work on my part. Part of being a good leader is being confident in one’s abilities and skills. Who would want to follow a leader who has n...
My score of fifteen, although considered “very good”, is one of my lowest scores. I will be able to improve this habit by prioritizing which tasks are the most important in the accomplishment of my goals. Additionally, my leadership will be improved by eliminating distractions which interfere with my ability to focus on priorities and goals. The success of my leadership will be dependent on becoming more disciplined in time management and avoiding
My selections from my Leadership Trait Questionnaire suggests that I may be overconfident in my abilities. I believe I am very competent for technical related skills. I appear to desire control through organization as well. The competencies which I rated myself highly on were those of quality worker. I consider this accurate to my previous results. I should however to measures to improve the competencies related to human
Upon receiving this project, I immediately began to worry about a survey that would seek to determine how strong of a leader I would be. I cowered at the fact of coming up with either false information or information I felt was less than perfect. I think that this fear alone, confirms my primary style. My primary style is that of Self-Actualization. Self-Actualized individuals seek to always become all that we can with the talents and knowledge we have. We tend to be creative and like to live in the moment. We bring almost a refreshing perspective to most situations and have a continuous intrinsic drive for self-development. I see this style manifested in myself on a daily basis by my strong desire to always meet new challenges. My motivation for success and coming up with new ideas is completely internal, and when the outlook seems grim to others, I am always the one that sees a positive outcome ahead, through the use of a plan. Although, I am currently a stay at home mom, I would imagine that as a manager that worked outside the home, I would share the same values as I do at home. I am a planner and a “lister”, because I feel that in order to tackle a task, the plan of attack must be clearly laid out and readily available to refer to. My backup thinking style is the Achievement style. I think this is very obvious because I seek to find jobs or take on challenges that will allow me to feel a sense of achievement. I have been known to quit jobs that paid a decent amount, but weren’t allowing me to achieve anything. On several jobs before, I’ve ended each day with a feeling of unimportance or frustration because I felt like the majority of my day had been spent working a job that wasn’t fulfilling or impacting the world. I think the fact that I decided to leave the corporate working world to be a stay at home mom, attests to the fact that I want to feel a sense of achievement in the personal raising of my child. I want to set up a standard for my child to ultimately be able to be a self-actualized person as he grows older.
My leadership qualities are pretty good. I can lead a team of people without much trouble. I have always been able to show leadership qualities. For example, my group in 5th grade was creating a presentation. I was voted the leader and was able
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
The outcomes of the two assessments along with my own self-awareness give me plenty to think about. How can I better use my strengths to become a more effective leader, and what can I do to ensure that I am working on my shortcomings to continue

According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
