The video by Good Morning America, talks about how deadly stress is because of work and home life. Some key points were, 3/4 of Americans say they have experienced nerve wracking moments of stress at work. People who have retired to a stressful job after recovering from an heart attack are more likely to have another one compare to people who haven’t had one. The most stressful jobs are: intercity teachers, police officers, miners, and air traffic control officers. Some home stressors are arguing with their spouse and women who don’t speak their minds are 4 times more likely to die than those who do. I learned a lot of things from this video. For example who has the most stressed out jobs in the US. And the one that surprised me the most
I really enjoyed this video. It's crazy the amount of informaton that gets packed into a three minute video. I think the cartoon and music that accompanies it helps because you're being entertained as well as informed. I think it's easier for me to remember a fun fact from the video versus reading a whole chapter from a book.
Oprah is one of the most well known and revered celebrities worldwide. What make Oprah distinct from mainstream celebrities is the entwining of the person and the product of Oprah. In each chapter, of Oprah: The Gospel of an Icon, Lofton compares materials from Oprah's many productions and religious culture. Lofton specifically focuses on the prosperity gospel as practiced by many churches and preached by Oprah, who gives gifts and fills pages of her magazine with products intended for a better life. Lofton also discusses celebrity culture and contemporary evangelism and how the brand Oprah thrives on the inseparable nature of religion and American capitalism
While the public is aware of some of the basic effects that stress can have through educational and medical exposure, but there is still plenty of information that the general population is missing. Part of the reasoning for why the general population may not have wide spread knowledge concerning stress and its fatal effects is the lack of attention stress is given in educational and medical settings, medical professionals for many people across the world don’t educate and check their patients on the stress they may be experiencing, schools also do a poor job of educating their students on the topic of stress and essentially ignore students who may be undergoing tremendous amounts of stress from school, extracurricular activities within or outside of school, issues at home or with friends, etc. Another issue concerning the lack of knowledge about stress among the general population is the idea that communicating about stress with family, friends, health professionals is
In the world today watching television is so addictive that everything else looks unattractive. The author argues that television is not lethal as drugs and alcohol but it can have many effects such as children getting more violent and reality seem second best. Every person lives are filled with emotions including anxiety, depression, and stress so after long hard work day the best medicine is to turn the television on and not to worry about anything. For example, I usually drive from site to site to take care of business. So when I return home from work I will sit on my couch and turn the television on and flick the channel until I fall to sleep. As Marie Winn describes, "the television experience allows the participant to blot out the real world and e...
First of all, I would like to say that the video was very enlightening and also a reminder
Majority people travel from all corners of the earth to America, “Land of the Free,” to create better lives; living the American dream is a dream for more than just Americans. The beautiful thing about America is this dream can actually become reality, but the impediment of this dream is that it can morph into a living nightmare. Stress can be the producer to this dream turned horror movie. According to American Psychological Association adults in America are continuously reporting high levels of stress, and the stress level is currently rising. Causes and effects of stress are dispersed from all aspects of the American culture. Some fervent causes of stress are financial obligations, divorce, and personal discontentment. There are so
In closing I would like to express how informing this video was on how children are conceived. It shows the audience what to expect and the changes that will occur and in what time frame. Children are miracles and this video proves it. There are many obstacles a woman must go thru to have a child. I think everyone should view this video as well as high school students. High school students who watch this would be more cautious about their actions and sexual behaviors, in my opinion.
Stress comes from many areas of life especially as an adult student incorporating school at a time in life when family and work are paramount. “Adults just returning to school have substantially higher anxiety about school in general and writing in particular than younger students.”3 Stress, best described by its "synonyms: strain, pressure, (nervous) tension, worry, anxiety, trouble, difficultly"1 has a medical history "According to the American Psychological Association, the majority of office visits to the doctor involve stress-related complaints, and stress is linked to the six leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide."2 If managed, stress can be a way to inform me; learning how to recognize my level of stress capacity is important. The Holmes-Rahe Life Stress Inventory 5 http://www.stress.org/holmes-rahe-stress-inventory/ is a list of stressful events that contribute to illness. My personal score on this life stress inventory is 236; I fall in the category of about a fifty percent chance of a major health breakdown in the next...
In “12 O’Clock News,” Elizabeth Bishop accentuates the difficulty involved in perceiving the “truth.” She utilizes a technique of constructing an exotic world out of objects that can be found in a newsroom. By defamiliarizing a newsroom, she questions our trust in what we perceive. Is it truly a journey to another world or just another perspective on something we are already familiar with? The intent of this transformation is to create a substitute for reality, analogous to the substitute reality which the media presents to us each day as its product, the “news.” The news media are capable of creating a world beyond what we see everyday, presenting us with what appears to be the truth about cultures we will never encounter firsthand. Bishop’s manipulation of a newsroom parallels the way the media distorts our perception of the world, and by doing so questions our ability to find our way out of this fog which is “reality.”
Television network Comedy Central, obviously known for their comedy programs, has a show called the Daily Show which doubles as a news broadcasting program of sorts. The broadcast is hosted by a South African comedian and actor named Trevor Noah. During the episode of the Daily Show following the democratic debate in Las Vegas, Noah and his news team did a post debate analysis where they presented a few of the main topics of the debate as well as their own remarks on each of the five individual candidates. While the Daily Show focused primarily on the satirical commentary of the top news headlines, the content and presentation can be analyzed through Nosich’s Standards of Reasoning to determine if the comedy show could be considered a reliable news source.
This video like I said was very inspirational because it introduced us to different parts of their life and struggles that they have to face and it really helped to understand how hard simple things for us could be for them. They had to fight for themselves and invent things for themselves to help them get through everyday life. The part about the inventions they had,
Since people are always dealing with certain changes in their lives, they are always dealing with some type of stress. One of the biggest growing issues with stress is stress in the workplace. According to Northwestern National Life, one-fourth of employees view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives (“Stress at Work,” 1999).... ... middle of paper ...
The end of the video supports this idea by following Rachel Yehuda, a psychologist at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. After the twin towers fell on September 11th 2001 she studied the effects of stress on a group of women who were inside or near the buildings and were pregnant at the time. Collaborating with Jonathan Seckl, an Edinburgh doctor, her results suggest that stress effects can be passed down generations. The video also states that some research at the Washington State University can point to toxic effects. Such as exposure to some pesticides causing biological changes in rats that can persist through at least four generations. The video ends with a wrap up talking about how this will change the way causes of diseases are viewed, as well as the importance of your lifestyle. What people do no longer just affects themselves, but can also affect the health of their children and
