I have always been asked the same question, whether it be at the fountain in Washington Square Park or by a stranger sitting next to me at Cafe Reggio. It starts with a friendly smile then they pop the question, “So do you go to NYU?” and it pains me to provide an answer each time. It’s my dream to be able to say yes to that question, to be able to walk past the buildings of NYU and feel a sense of belonging replace the one of the longing that has been in my heart since my father would hold my hand as we crossed streets to get to Bleeker Street Records as to not lose me in crowds of college studnets. Rather than turn to my friends and say “That’s where I’m going to go” as we pass the Waverly Building, I hope the friends I make in school and
“You don't want to be like your parents!" triggers memories of the day I found my compelling reason to attend college. My grandfather is a very wise man who exhibits the meaning of sacrifice and hard work in my family. My first visit to the UOG admissions office with him was a dreadful experience. As I gazed at the cost of tuition yearly, I felt a sudden weight on my shoulders. For a moment I felt like a traveler lost in a foreign place trying to figure out where to go and how to get to my destination. I knew at that moment that I could not afford it unless I found a job to pay for the expenses or received some form of financial aid. As I requested a FASFA form and began filling out the application, my hand began to tremble and again I felt
Some would say this is just because they’re the people I have to spend the majority of my time with, but that isn’t true. I love spending time with people who willingly form study groups and have strong interests in academic subjects. Even if I’m just going to Panera to hang out with someone, I usually end up learning something new or teaching. In college, I want to continue to surround myself with the type of people who read about Middle Eastern relations or write computer codes in their free time. Residing in Toscanini College will allow me to continue surrounding myself with fellow lovers of learning both inside and outside of my classes. I’d love to participate in a Pizza and Game Night or see a Broadway show with friends through the unique opportunities the Honors College has to offer. While the Honors College courses will allow me to be intellectually stimulated in school, the social activities offered will allow this intellectual stimulation to extend to the world
In the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, a group of clones take a unique journey through adolescence. These clones are modeled after real humans, and they grow up with the knowledge that they will one day die donating their vital organs to the aforementioned. In their early lives, the clones are quarantined in a boarding school from which they are not allowed to leave. As the group grows older though, they split up and move to separate houses where they are given more freedom. Most of the clones spend their last couple years in these houses before they are summoned to begin donating. Strangely, none of the clones attempt to counterattack any of this. They willfully follow all directions and accept what is told to them. The clones in
Around the age of five, I was introduced to my first college campus experience. I went to a close cousins graduation ceremony, and she showed me around the school. From that day forward I always knew that I wanted to achieve academic success. I have already started taking great strides toward reaching my goals, and I am a strong believer that Rutgers will be a great stepping stone in helping me move forward. I choose Rutgers University because it possesses a myriad of things that a student who is interested in a vast campus, diversity, and campus involvement such as myself can use to my advantage. I will be going in as a criminal justice student. I know Rutgers has a very high rated criminal justice program that will make me a competitive candidate post graduation. The academic excellence Rutgers University possesses will not only aid me while in school, but long after I graduate.
...st like in the song, “The Trial” where the band plays and people chant, “tear down the wall” then we hear the sound of a wall actually getting wrecked in the background. Since I have finally enrolled in my classes for next semester and will be ready and finally graduating, I wish to no longer have any surprises from NIU. I pray that everything will go smoothly and that nothing will suppress my individuality and creativity anymore. Let me finish with a big bang and learn useful things that I will need when I graduate so I can bring to my work field to be the best that I can be. I’ve seen numerous people drop out of NIU because they did not like what NIU’s program has done to them. But I know I will succeed to overcome what NIU has become and I will break down the wall. The day I find hope will be the day of my graduation where I will finally be “Outside the Wall”.
“You have any college in mind that you will apply to, Ngan?” It was another normal day of my senior year in high school: ten of us who were applying for U.S colleges formed a special group after class, cramming SAT and writing essays together.
Liberty University is my dream school because of its solid Biblical foundation, opportunities for students, and excellent educational program. I have found all three of these qualities in my interaction with the university. I truly sense that Liberty wants what is best for its students both inside and outside of the classroom. In short, Liberty is my dream school because of its heart. The Honors Program at Liberty furthers my respect for Liberty by challenging its students and providing them with opportunities to succeed. Being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program would mean many things to me including preparing me for my future and giving me the chance to become a Champion for Christ. It would challenge and provide me with a close-knit Christian community, new growth opportunities, and a balance amidst the wide variety of new experiences. Being accepted into the Honors Program would further enable me to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
As a young woman growing up in an urbanized setting and attending public schools all of my life, when the time came to start planning and searching for colleges, I searched for schools that I felt fit my persona, that I would be comfortable attending for some of the most integral years of my life. My search included schools such as Temple University, and Pennsylvania State University, higher education institutions that allowed me to challenge myself, but at the same time would put me in a setting where I would be with others just like myself, fitting into the standard American university fashion.
After spending two successful years at Collin College, finding classes and an environment to stretch my thinking and challenge my worldview was coming to an end. Attending Northwestern will create the most challenging aspects in my personal and academic life, and give me the greatest opportunity to flourish.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold." The words of Don Vito Corleone graced my ears as I watched the Godfather, a movie that undoubtedly stood the test of time. The film, a byproduct of the Machiavellian genius of Martin Scorsese, an NYU grad, depicted vicious tribal loyalties and a form of vengeance to match every affront. Scorsese's triumph in the entertainment industry thoroughly displays the benefits of an NYU education: prestigious programs that elevate graduates for success in the so-called "real world". With vast degrees of programs from accounting to Woodwind studies, NYU provides a facet of creative learning and a method for students to explore their passion.
Attending the University of Rochester was like because dropped into the middle of the wilderness with only a calculator and a laptop for defense. I was the first person, not only in my family, but in my neighborhood to attend college; I had no one to refer to for help. I figured that since I liked to help people and I did well in science classes, I decided to become a doctor. But I think the re...
There is a multitude of reasons NYU has sparked an interest as one of my top college options. It is located in New York City, the greatest city in the world. It offers the top of the line academic programs, including a large diversity of study abroad opportunities. NYU has a large student population, making it easy to connect with others and share common interest in specific fields. Also this large student population increases competition, and I enjoy working towards being the best when there is a great number of competitors. Overall I believe NYU would supply my needs as an academic over achiever.
As the younger generation gets closer and closer to college age, we wonder where we are going to go or if we even want to attend. People always tell you that education is important and you will use this knowledge throughout your entire life, so when choosing a college it’s important that you choose a very educational school. For those reasons New York University was an amazing choice for me. New York University, also known as Violet, has it’s ups and downs of being located in such an urban area. The private school is located around Washington Square, and Washington Square Park which is a very busy spot. Things you can do around the college include: visiting art galleries, food touring, it also has a lot of nightlife. With so many students the classes are big, the average enrollment of students out-of state is 64% and the average in-state is 36%. New York University is a very mixed
I spent many days searching for a university that just clicked into place. I needed a university with my desired major and place. I dreamed of England since I was 12. When I clicked on the link for Istituto Marangoni I thought I was dreaming. My eyes glued to the page, scanning and reading. I was mesmerized and without second thought put this university in my favorites. I frequently visited the page. It had everything I have ever dreamed of except it was real. A stylist major with an opportunity for an internship and even better my dream of London was placed in there too. Eager eyes and my mouth moving a million wor...
At the moment, I’m taking a break from school and doing OPT (Optional Practical Training) to have more experience with the real world. I got to meet so many people from the jobs that I’m doing and I’m glad that I made this decision. Nonetheless, university is still a really important matter that I need to focus on and University of Washington (U.W) has been one of my favorite school since I moved to the US. At first, it was just because how beauty the campus is, then I met a lot of terrific people from U.W and they told me so many good things about school such as how good the professor are, how well-equipped the library is etc.. That is why I immediately apply to the university because I really want to become a part of the university that shaped all these wonderful people I’ve met.
