Legos are the multi-colored blocks we used as children to build creations that were only limited by our imaginations. I remember adding to my multi-colored plastic sculptor, each block putting me one step closer to the final product. The process would always entail first setting up a strong foundation, and then creating structural support, while always having a plan in the back of my mind. The outcome of which, would tower above me; to think it all began with a single block. In many ways people are similar to Legos. We are the combination of our experiences, each adding to our personas, and shaping how we view the world. Also like Legos, to have a stable and functioning final product it must have a foundation, support and a plan. I was able to establish my foundation in high school. During these years my life was an old television with only three channels: home, school and church; each one being similar to the other with little distinction. Even though my life seemed tedious at times, I learned how to focus, pray and never to give up. In hindsight, I believe my parents raise me in this manner out of fear. I did not grow up in the best of neighborhoods, and my older brother was incarcerated while I was growing up, so I can understand their apprehension. Nevertheless, I had a strong moral foundation to enter the unknown know as college. Attending the University of Rochester was like because dropped into the middle of the wilderness with only a calculator and a laptop for defense. I was the first person, not only in my family, but in my neighborhood to attend college; I had no one to refer to for help. I figured that since I liked to help people and I did well in science classes, I decided to become a doctor. But I think the re... ... middle of paper ... ...asterpiece. Now at NCCC I have hit a metaphysical wall. While taking nine classes, working, tutoring, being on student senate, maintaining my 3.94 GPA and having my own business, I find myself not being challenged. While finally mastering time management, I have realized that to continue my growth towards the person that I want to become, I must move on to bigger and better things. Winston Churchill said, “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.” While I have learned from my mistakes in the past, all the experiences that I have endured have made me into the person I am today. Even being a work-in-progress, I have a solid foundation, strong internal support and blueprints of the person I will become. And the day I become a complete multi-colored sculptor of experiences and hard work, I will have helped and inspired others to do the same.

Attending Early College High School has changed the way I feel about education because now I prioritize my academics. I don’t let any barriers in my life interfere with my academics. At ECHS, I have not faced many difficulties, but one difficult challenge was when I got a terrible grade in my AP Biology class. I was devastated to see that on my progress report card I had a D+. I had never had such a low grade in any class. Many thoughts were running in my head, including the thought that I was never going to make it into college because of that grade. I tried extremely hard to raise my grade, but I could not focus on school because my grandfather had just passed away and my family was facing a very difficult time. Memories came flashing in
College has a extensive impact on a person that some people simply don’t realize. When I first started college, I was a little close-minded and unsure about what it was I wanted to do with the rest of my life. When I was halfway through my freshman year, I decided to completely change my path in life. I left ECU, moved into an apartment, transferred to Pitt and declared my major intended sonography. Then suddenly I hated what I was doing, I had to take a step back and truly evaluate my life and what it was I was meant to do. I was completely lost. Then one day I received a text from a friend telling me to apply to a hospital located in Chesapeake, Virginia. I did, and I got the job. When I told my parents they were less than thrilled, they didn’t like the idea of me taking a year off from school to work, but I thought long and hard about what was best for me and decided it was something I was meant to do, it was the path I needed to follow. I worked for a year while living at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I was completely independent, providing for myself 100 percent. While working this job, I realized that what I wanted to do and what I was called to do in life was become a nurse, which is something I would have never figured out had I not seriously weighed my options
Life wasn’t as assuring as it may seem today. While growing up, I made some decisions that wasn’t beneficial to my life. As years went by, still there wasn’t any progress besides working routinely at the same job for 3 years. I knew it was time for a change. When I completed my HiSET diploma, bought a car, and moved out my mother’s home, I became at ease with myself.
...you in your past, you are not your past, you are the resources and the capabilities you glean from it. And that is the basis for all change.” In conclusion, learn from your mistakes, remember what talents got you where you are today and success will eventually come along the way.
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
Throughout my life, I have faced many setbacks, challenges, and have failed more times than I can count. Though each one has impacted me in a different way, this one in particular, has had the greatest effect on me.

After talking to my counselor at my highschool we figured out that I had zero chance of attending a CSU or University, and if I were to graduate I would have to attend a Junior College. That meeting with my counselor and my mom really helped me flip the page on this chapter of my life. I realized that if I was going to be anything in this world, make money or support a family I was going to have to put myself into gear. Those last two years of high school I wasn’t the best student by any means, but I applied myself and was rewarded by walking across that stage in front of my family and receiving a
At one point in my life the thought of college for me was a joke. My grades and knowledge of college showed that it was very obvious that I had no intention in going. Due to the environment and me hanging out with the wrong crowd, which in return affected my mindset. I felt that I wasn’t smart enough to go and I was better off in the military. After moving to Maryland with my I found my true self. A boy who was smart enough to accomplish anything he could put his mind to. I had finally found that push and the motivation thanks to my parents. The thought that if I didn’t find it scares me at times, I could be still in the streets back home dodging bullets and selling week for what. Because I thought I wasn’t good enough, I had to realize that I wanted better for myself. I wanted to be the first to go to college in my family, and better yet graduate with a
To begin I will tell the history of Lego. Master carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen opens the doors of his business in 1932, in the village of Billund, Denmark. He made stepladders, ironing boards, stools and wooden toys. His son, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, started to work in the business at the age of 12. In 1934, Ole Kirk Kristiansen Company and his products now adopt the name LEGO, formed from the Danish words "LEg GOdt" ("play well"). After some time, they realized that in Latin the word "LEg GOdt" means, "I put together". At this time, the company also has 6-7 employees. In 1935, the business creates its first LEGO wooden duck and markets “Kirk´s Sand game” first construction toy. In 1936, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen takes Ole Kirk 's motto
During the entirety of my educational career, starting in elementary school, it was continually said to me that going to college increases your earning potential. With this in mind, I was certainly going to attend college, but I never seriously thought about it as a way to increase my knowledge and skill in a field I was interested in. Unfortunately, my family wasn’t exactly supportive. I’m the first person in my family to attend college and have been required to be financially self-supporting due to my family’s financial background. I relocated to South Dakota from Florida to begin my new adventure. My only emotional support came from my grandmother who passed away just three weeks before I began my first semester. This took a toll on me that required quite a bit of time to recover from. My grades suffered greatly as I struggled to overcome the loss of my closest family member while facing new challenges college and South Dakota presented. Despite this I continued on the path I had chosen and kept pursuing my education.
College has been such a culture shock for me. I never would have pictured myself being here. Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die little by little every day. I did not live a normal childhood because I was a little girl who thought taking care of the grown up was my responsibility. I carried someone else's burden for so long, I lost track of my own life. My battles gave me a side of strength and pushed me to be the better person that I am today. Through all of it I moved forward until my purpose was succeeded. It was my junior year and I had started a ne...
Wham, bang, hay-ya! Those were probably the kinds of sounds you might have heard if you passed by my room as a child. All of those greatly preformed sound effects came from none other than myself, unless I had a friends help who was of course only allowed to be the villain in whichever toys we were playing. I guess this interests me now because I can realize as an adult just how much watching certain shows, having certain toys, and playing certain games have had a part in shaping the person I am today.
