Because he was so clever he got tired of hunting normal animals, he wanted more of a challenge. He ended up going completely insane and started to hunt humans.
As stated before General Zaroff Is a very wealthy person. The General owns a private island, with a completely ginormous house. In this extremely luxurious and beautiful abode, there is “A baryon hall of feudal times with its oaken panels, it's high ceiling, its vast refectory tables where twoscore men could sit down to eat.” (pg.5) The marvelous building also had “a huge, beam-ceilinged bedroom, with a canopied bed big enough for six men.” (pg.5) Since Zaroff has a guest in his home (Rainsford) he gave him “the pajamas of the softest silk” and a great bed. (pg. 10) Zaroff likes to show off how wealthy, he is. Even “The table appointments were of the finest--linen, the crystal, the silver, the china.” (pg. 5) General Zaroff is also a

magnificent hunter, with the finest of animal heads mounted on the walls which he is very proud of. Since Zaroff is such a great hunter he has to be very clever. Zaroff was indeed an incredibly clever man.
In order to obtain humans to hunt, he got lights to “indicate a channel where there is none; giant rocks with razor edges…” (pg. 9) He knew how to lure in ships and collect survivors of the crashed ships, which he would later hunt. Zaroff also owned a pack of dogs to locate anyone that was able to escape the Generals grasp, but only “One almost did win. (Zaroff) had to use the dogs.” (pg.9) As Zaroff was hunting Rainsford “he made his way along with his eyes fixed in utmost concentration on the ground before him.” (pg.12) to look for signs to figure out Rainsford's whereabouts. As the general is hunting Rainsford he almost fell into a trap but “Even as he touched it, the general sensed danger and leaped back with the agility of an ape.” (pg.13) The general was very keen on killing Rainsford on the third day the General starts to become even more developed in his own
insanity. General Zaroff has fallen down a dark, eerie and very disturbing path. Zaroff wants more of a challenge when hunting so he decided to find a new animal to hunt. The new animal he wants “must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason.” (pg. 7) The General decided to hunt humans. And now that another fellow hunter had washed up on his island, he wanted to have a great challenge and wanted to hunt him. Rainsford noticed this as “ he saw the deadly black eyes of the general on him, studying him. General Zaroff's face suddenly brightened.” (pg. 10) The General starts hunting Rainsford and on the third day, Ivan was killed by a trap Rainsford had set. But the dogs had caught up to Rainsford and Rainsford jumped off a cliff. As the General gets ready to sleep he had “Two slight annoyances kept him from perfect enjoyment. One was that it would be difficult to replace Ivan.” (pg.14) The general wasn’t displaced by Ivans death only that it might be hard to replace him. The general wanted to kill humans, and death didn’t seem to displace him whatsoever. Zaroff insanity made him a stone cold killer. The general was not a normal hunter the general was so clever that he ended up getting bored of hunting normal animals. He was also very wealthy so he bought an island where he set up a trap for ships which would crash and then Zaroff would find the survivors train them and then hunt them. The general was completely insane and was not displaced by the murder of humans at all.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht until he fell off the boat. He swam all the way to shore because Rainsford heard three gun shots. He walked upon a gigantic mansion. This house was for a man named General Zaroff. He was an hunter just like Rainsford in a hunt , but hunted humans instead of animals. General Zaroff wanted to kill Rainsford in a hunt with the General. Also, the General threaten Rainsford if he doesn’t hunt with him; he will be sent with Ivan.
After falling off his ship and forced to swim to a mysterious island, Rainsford is faced with a challenge. General Zaroff traps him in a “game” that requires Rainsford to use his skills to survive. He is hunted for three days; where he was chased, tracked down, and shot at. General Zaroff led the hunt to try to kill Rainsford. General was equipped with more firepower and help from his henchman and dogs. But even with his much greater opponent, he was able to survive. Rainsford used his many skills to defeat and kill his enemy. He used quick wit to make traps that would slow Zaroff and kill his dogs and henchman. Then he used his intelligence to escape Zaroff by swimming away, but sneaking back into his own mansion.
A skilled hunter sprints desperately through the woods, realizing the futility of hiding from his greatest foe: his own kind. Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” is the story of a hunter that becomes the hunted. The story explores the sense of extreme terror the protagonist feels being pursued by a psychopath living on a mysterious island. This protagonist, Rainsford, has many traits that aid him in his battle with the general. By demonstrating his cunning, sly, and remorseful traits, Rainsford shows the story’s theme of “walking a mile in someone else’s shoes”.
“You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?”. The story “The Most dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell introduces an adventurous type of thriller with two main characters named Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. Both of which are hunters who in the story play a “game” invented by General Zaroff out of pure fear of becoming bored of the hunt. General Zaroff is a big fan of the hunt and everything he says about the hunt is to be taken serious. Rainsford and General Zaroff are described to be excellent hunters through the traps Rainsford makes, all the big game Zaroff has hunted, but Zaroff is better at hunting through the fact that the hunt has began to bore and he needs more of a challenge hunting humans.

Rainsford makes a deal with the general to win his freedom. If Rainsford can evade Zaroff for three nights, then Rainsford is free to leave the island. During the hunt, Rainsford must think quickly and be resourceful in order to stay alive. Rainsford is an extremely experienced hunter who writes books about his hunting experiences. Do you know the definition of a serial killer? Maybe you have your own definition, such as: a person that mass murders people in the grocery store. Or: a crazy human being that kills people more than once. According to Dictionary.com, a serial killer is defined as “a person who carries out a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behavior pattern.” General Zaroff from the story The Most Dangerous Game fits almost exactly into that definition. He makes the worst decisions over all of our short stories because he takes innocent lives with great intention, he takes immense pleasure in doing so, and he does it repeatedly.
Rainsford was forced to choose between life and death by Zaroff. Zaroff tells Rainsford that he hunts people as a type of wild game and takes them hunting first then gives them a few survival things and have to survive for three days in order to win.
In the story, Zaroff and Rainsford are both enjoy hunting, and are both excellent and skillful hunters
Richard Connells “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story which illustrates that calm analytical thinking can increase your odds of survival and controlling panic.
When Rainsford falls off of the boat, he has to try his best to stay afloat until he can find something to latch on to. He swims vigorously until he reaches Ship-Trap Island. "Jagged crags appeared to jut up into the opaqueness... dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs." It is midday and he is just searching for a place to rest when he runs into Ivan, the astonishingly large guard of the island. Zaroff, the owner of the island, joins in on their conversation about hunting. The conversation is interesting to say the least. Zaroff says, "You'll find this game worth playing…your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine. Outdoor chess! And the stake is not without value, eh?" Zaroff is trying to point out that he finds interest in hunting humans, and he wants to know if Rainsford will rise to the challenge. Rainsford is left with a choice to make; will he fight Zaroff, or will he decline and get killed by Ivan. The choice in this situation is pretty self- evident.
In the story The Most Dangerous Game a character named General Zaroff has a passion for hunting. He has been hunting since he was born. He has hunted every animal known to man, but, then he gets tried of hunting the same animal over and over. So he discovers a new animal human flesh. General Zaroff is person of bad character because he is cruel, cowardly, and untrustworthy.
“I suggest to one of them that we go hunting. I give him supply of food and an excellent hunting knife. I am to follow, armed only with a pistol of the smallest caliber and range” (11). Zaroff explains to Rainsford the game which seems unfair since Zaroff had a gun and the other person had a knife. Rainsford thought that something was wrong when Zaroff was explaining him the game, but Rainsford did not pay a lot of attention. “Rainsford did not believe what his reason told him was true, but the truth was as evident as the sun that had by now pushed through the mists. The general was playing him. The general was saving him for another day’s sport. The Cossack was the cat; he was the mouse” (15). Rainsford realized that Zaroff was cheating and lying to him since the beginning. After all the things that happened, Rainsford knew that he should have listened to his instincts. Zaroff showed his real personality which is conceited, rude, crazy, and an hypocrite, even though at the end he ended up losing against
General Zaroff has his own ways on his island, and to him they’re seen as “civilized” (26). For example, he hunts people for sport and says that there are the hunter and the huntees of the world (25). His sport gives him ecstasy, giving him the urge to keep playing. His addiction, makes him feel imperious as if he is the best hunter created. In addition, when Ivan is killed by Rainsford’s native trick, the General didn’t mind (34). He is apathetic for
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, the author Richard Connell compels the reader to contemplate how one’s perspective can affect their daily lives. One’s perspective can be connected to their morals, and influence their actions. Their experiences may also cause their perspective on a situation to change. (Topic sentence) Zaroff sees no moral implications with hunting people, as he believes that they are there for his pleasure. He sees them as his next challenge and has no issue with moving on to them when he gets bored of hunting animals. In Zaroff’s mind, he is the hunter and the people he hunts are the huntees. It was irrelevant to him that they are humans, as it is merely a game to him, and he feels entitled to kill them. Zaroff
