The gender gap, one of the biggest problems across the world such as work wise. Men earn more money each year by the hundreds compared to their female counter parts in 2006 men earned an amount of 11 thousand dollars on the other hand for females they earned a small amount of 6 thousand compared to there male counter parts. In 2016 males earned an additional amount of 21 thousand dollars and the females earned an amount of 11 thousand dollars. Some countries tried to equalize the gap are France, India, Namibia, these countries might be the first if ever will be the ones to stop gender un-equality in there land. As for the countries that havent made a change in there gender gap but only has gotten worse are The UK, Germany, Austria, and plenty more. Afghanistan women for instance do most of the work in there country to ensure laws and more. Males alone can make thousands apon thousands of dollars at ease but females struggle to get even close to what males earn per year. Men have been gaining more money each year more then the last one. Another part of a gender gap is the fact that it is going towards the education, health and economy and a small percentage is going to the policies of the U.S. The U.S money ratio is 17,947.00 almost 18,000.00 dollars and we are ranked 45 out of 144 states of this gender gap.
If all the other states could follow after France and the other countries and wind down the gender gap the economy and society would be normal or close to being equal. But no one really focuses on the issue of the gender gap due to no one really noticing it through out the days, months, years, decades, and soon enough centuries and more so. But if people did pick up on the fact that the gender gap is a massive issue they’d speak up and take control of it and try to stop it

Despite the drastic changes made toward the improvement of equal rights there a still many problems that have been overlooked, or simply ignored. According to Mario Osave, (2010) “Thirty years after the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), many girls and women still do not have equal opportunities to realize rights recognized by law. In many countries, women are not entitled to own property or inherit land. Social exclusion, “honor” killings, female genital mutilation, trafficking, restricted mobility and early marriage among others, deny the right to health to women and girls and increase illness and death throughout the life-course.” (Shah 1)

The role of women in society has always been an issue throughout the ages and throughout Western Europe, and more or less all over the world. Before the age of the Enlightenment, or the Dark Ages, women were always seen as secondary to men in all aspects. Most reasons were religious while others were just the way life was then. By the late 18th century, at the time of the French Revolution and the continuance of the Enlightenment era, the role of women in society began changing drastically as the lights of the world were now open with this brand new enlightened era. Women began holding jobs, yet still did not receive the same privileges as men. By the time the Industrial Revolution came along in the 19th century many more jobs were opened to a woman in the work force. Reforms began in all areas throughout the 19thand early 20th centuries as women were gaining more and more rights and acceptance into everyday life. By the time the 20th century rolled around and throughout, no longer was it thought that women belonged in the home (although few still feel that way), yet many women began serving professional jobs as doctors, lawyers, and politicians. Now today some of the most successful people in the business world are women, as women have even began there own companies.
The gender pay gap is defined as the difference between median earnings of men and women relative to median earning of men. It can be measured in three different ways: by how much they earn an hour, by how much they earn in a week and by how much they earn on a yearly basis. The gender pay gap is a social issue since it affects women, who make up approximately 50% of our population. Women of minority groups are affected more strongly by the gender pay gap since they earn even less than Caucasian women. Those women can even earn ,on average, 0.50$ for every dollar a man would make.

Gender inequality has proven to be a large obstacle in many aspects of women’s lives. America has made large progress over several decades, providing mostly equal pay, mostly equal rights, and mostly equal opportunities. However, in a first world society like America, mostly equal does not mean enough. Women and men are inherently different creatures, but does that mean that inequality will always exist in one way or another? Are there some forms of inequality that are acceptable? According to the Encyclopedia of Governance, “answers depend on the degree to which one thinks women's and men's capacities differ, what should be equalized, and by what means” (ENCYCLOPEDIA). One thing is certain though; there is still progress to be made towards true gender equality.
We may just not be being told any information. In Lenny Liebmann's article, "Mending the Gender Gap," he reveals that women earn an average of $18,000 less annually than men. He further reports that the US Census Bureau states the male/female pay differential ranges between 15-50%, depending on the industry and the job title. Not to mention that within the Fortune 1000, 95% of all executive positions were held by men in 1997. (62-63)
After the recession, women earned an income of five trillion dollars. Today, women do not earn an income as much as men do, but Foroohar projects there to be a shift in the following numbers within the next few years. Worldwide, men’s income is around $23.4 trillion and women’s income is $10.5 trillion. Countries such as China and Vietnam have seventy percent of their women now working. Also, the same amount of women attends college and gets an education as men do.
The United States has one of the highest gender pay gaps among the developed countries. In the country, the gender pay gap is measured as the ratio of female to males yearly earning among workers in full-time, year round (FTYR) earnings. In 2009, female FTYR earned 77% (0.77) as much as the FTYR male workers (US Census Bureau, 2013). The history of Gender Gap earning reveals USA has made big strides towards reducing the gender pay gap from 1980. For instance, in 1980 the gender pay gap ratio was 0.62 while in 1990, the gap stood at 0.72. Further from 1990 to 2000, the gap reduced to 0.73 and then to 0.77 in 2009. Currently, the gender pay gap stands at 0.76 and continues to persist (US Census Bureau, 2013).
Not only that, but these positions tend to pay women less. It was found that "female physicians on average earned approximately 36 percent less than what male physicians made in 2008 [and] female lawyers. . . make about 80 percent of male lawyers ' salaries" (Shaw 410). This difference in men and women 's income is referred to as the gender wage gap. The gender pay gap affects all women of all ages, educations, and backgrounds. It was reported "in 2013 among full-time, year-round workers, women were paid 78 percent of what men were paid"(Aauw). The gender pay gap is significantly different when it comes to women minorities compared to the average white male worker. "Asian American women’s salaries show the smallest gender pay gap, at 90 percent of white men’s earnings. Hispanic women’s salaries show the largest gap, at 54 percent of white men’s earnings" (Aauw). The pay gap is known to grow wider the older a woman gets. "Women typically earn about 90 percent of what men are paid until they hit 35. After that median earnings for women are typically 75–80 percent of what men are paid"
For many years there has been inequality between men and women. Basketball, football, soccer, baseball, golf, sumo wrestling, motocross, mixed martial arts, rugby, hockey, auto racing, boxing, and the list goes on and on. By now most are thinking “Oh, it’s just a list of sports.” This is not just a list of sports. These are sports dominated by men. Then again, there are sports listed such as basketball and soccer that have women’s teams, but the men’s teams get the attention and praise that women do not. Forbes list, parenthood, relationships, politics, social events, etcetera. Forbes list’s richest one percent of the world has seventy-three men, but only seven women (Forbes 400, 2015). Society has praised men, who take care of their children, but expect women to take care of the children.
The issue of gender inequality will never truly be solved in the United States. This arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles as well as biologically through hormonal differences, chromosomes, and brain structures. Gender inequality is defined as unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on gender. One of the reasons for gender inequality is income disparities. Another reason is because of the positions in the workplace. Thirdly, the reason is because of beliefs that one another has. For these reasons is why these situations should be examined to get to the root of the problem.
