With the use of professional athletes and other famous people, Gatorade’s ads persuade people everywhere to use their products. In this ad, Gatorade uses Dwyane Wade who is a professional basketball player to showcase their product. Wade is drinking Gatorade while in his basketball uniform, showing Gatorade’s customers that he uses it to play well. These companies are willing to spend tons of money to persuade customers that drinking Gatorade is highly beneficial. Gatorade uses professional athletes and famous people to present their product to the public. The reason this is so effective is because people everywhere want to be famous, so they will live the lifestyle of a famous person. For example, in this ad Dwyane Wade is drinking Gatorade causing basketball fans everywhere to consume Gatorade as well. Gatorade portrays images that no other product does, they show the effects that their products can give. According to Gatorade’s ads if a person would consume their product they too will be playing professional basketball, hitting the game winning shot, winning the championship, or becoming famous. Their ads overshadow the truths of their product, Gatorade really isn’t that healthy for a person even if Dwyane Wade is consuming it. Sport is one of the largest mediums that corporations can utilize to get that mass message out to their customers. Many of us have different ways that “tickle” our fancy so to speak. What interests one does not necessarily interest another, but, even if one person can convince others to try a product or service a domino effect may occur. Corporations are always trying to “spice” up their advertisement. They probably do this to see if they can manipulate a consumer to try their service or product. For example, Budweiser has been running beer ads for many, many years and incorporated comedy into their commercials. They went from frogs to lizards to obnoxious acting. Mass media is the news, newspapers, magazines, the radio, and the television. The way I’m going to analyze it, is by rhetorical analysis. Rhetoric is how effective the writer is in persuading the reader by using speech and compositional techniques. In order for you to be able to become more apprehensive when reading information, I will be analyzing the ad for Vitaminwater featuring Kobe Bryant. Vitaminwater was introduced in 1996. It is a mineral water that is given out by Energy Brands. Like many sports drinks they use famous athletes to speak for them and promote them. Vitaminwater’s ad with Kobe Bryant is successful because it persuades people to buy their product because it’s, “The Most Valuable Power.”
