The Gallup Strengths Test was very beneficial. Taking the test helped me realized more about the type of person I am. Knowing my top five strengths will help boost my academic career and my relationships with others. My top five strengths are includer, developer, restorative, responsibility, and positivity. The Includer theme is very fitting to my personality because I love to befriend so many different types of people. I love to talk to people and ask deep questions to get to know them on a more personal level. I love to hear how others’ stories differ from mine. This has been a positive strength for me throughout this first month of college. I’ve been able to form two very important friendships, and I think that being an Includer has allowed me to do that. …show more content…
The Developer theme also applies to my life.
When meeting others, there may be things about them that I do not particularly enjoy, but I try to keep my focus on the positive things about them and I tend to forget about the negatives. When someone is very close to me, I am not afraid to be very straightforward with what I think. Developers also love to work with children, myself included. My goal is to work in a neonatal unit upon graduation. The Restorative theme allows me to find problems in relationships, technology, and my personal development and fix them. I mostly prefer to work alone, and when I start something I do not want to get up until the job is done. I like to try new things, that sometimes put me in uncomfortable situations, so that I can better myself. I believe it is just as important to know my weaknesses, so that I can try to build them up to make them become strengths. Responsibly is a theme not so new to me. I have been very driven from the start of high school. I focused hard on being able to attend Olivet. I worked two jobs throughout high school which helped pay for my car. I do not like to go against my word, so if I say I will do something, chances are it will get
done. Positivity is again a trait I can see in myself. With all the things that come my way, I know it is important to have a positive attitude. Of course, I will still point out all of the things that can go wrong, but think of how the outcome is destined to be good. Knowing that Jesus Christ is the ruler of my life, who has all the answers to my life allows me to be more positive. I know that any difficult situation can be overcome by positivity because he already knows the outcome. Knowing these strengths will definitely be helpful throughout college and life beyond it. It allows me to know myself better. I will also be able to work with others for a common good. My strengths are not that same as anyone else’s, so I can combine their strengths with my strengths to create something great.
...gs. One of these things is that no matter what happens, there is always a positive outcome available, even if we need to work to find it. Remembering this theme will remind me that no matter how bleak things look, there is always a way for things to get better. It will also encourage me to work harder to discover this way, which will encourage me to work harder even in normal situations.
Characterization is a good example of how this theme can be represented. The main character seems to be very dedicated to the building of the field and doing what the voice asks of him. There are few things he does that shoes how dedicated to the success of the field he is.
Strengths Finder 2.0 uses an online assessment to evaluate the individuals unique talents by having the taker rate how they view a particular question in 20 seconds or less (Rath, 2007). After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).

... and jump out of their comfort zone. People should find their own direction and not listen when someone else tells them what to do and accomplish in life. This relates to society today as sometimes people do not experience enough things. They find one thing they like and stick with it even if they do not necessarily like it. Kids sometimes feel pressured to do a sport or instrument even if they do not like the activity. Adults should let kids find their purpose and hobbies in life with the adults only slightly helping lead the child in a certain direction. The theme is powerful due to the fact that everyone can learn a lesson from it and try new things. There is always a new thing to do, even if one thinks they have done it all. People should never stop trying new things and try as many things as possible, while not letting social norms define who they are.
In the story "Thank you M'am," the author communicates the theme through the plot. The central theme is that a person always deserves another chance to fix his or her mistakes, no matter what mistakes he or she makes. After Roger tries to steal Mrs. Jones's pocketbook, Mrs. Jones said, "If I turn you loose will you run?' asked the woman. 'Yes'm,' said the boy. 'Then I won't turn you loose.'" This clearly shows Hughes’s theme because when Mrs. Jones decides to take Roger in and not turn him in to the police, she gives him a second chance: A chance to correct his mistakes. In contrast, Saki reveals the theme of his story simply through his characters. In Saki's "The Story Teller," the theme is that children enjoy entertainment more than education. The way the children react to both
Another theme is the ability of a person to have some dignity even when it feels like the world is against you. These themes remain important today because it teaches us what can happen to a person if their dreams are never fulfilled. For example, Walter had a dream to open a liquor store, however this dream never came true after Willy (the person Walter gave the money too to open the store) betrayed him. He broke down and felt hopeless. It also teaches us that dignity is important, Walter also portrayed his need for dignity after he rejects the offer of Mr. Linder from the“home improvement
I found the results of my self-assessments to be a very insightful and accurate description of myself. The results of the learning styles test and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II are very valuable for examining my personality traits and learning style and making improvements as needed.
Through the self-assessment instruments utilized in this program, I have gained wealth of knowledge about my strengths, and weaknesses and how they affect my personal and professional life. By using different exercises, I recognized new strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, I identified ways to develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. The Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) identified some of my strengths as the ability to get things done, initiating, and taking risks (Kolb, 2007). In the Strongest Self Feedback Exercise, some of the feedback listed my strengths as having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being self-confident, a fast learner, determined, hardworking, and an awesome listener (Drucker, 2005).
My question is, once we get beyond the theme where do we go? I have used the theme as a crutch- an excuse not to do any real thinking or contemplation on a subject. I just puke back what the instructor has already told me in an attractive, organized manner. This method is easier for a teacher to grade but I don't think it contributes to the understanding of everyone involved. By communicating in themes, we learn facts- not understanding or deeper meaning. In the handout written by Laib, we can see that organization is one of the keys to enhancing the understanding of both the reader and the writer.
Studying this theme affected my life, my relationships, my feelings, my actions and my values. This theme affected my life through the changing of my understanding of human life. This change in my understanding affected my relationships in a positive way because it helped me to
I chose to take the VIA character strengths survey from www.viacharacter.org. My top three strengths were humor, kindness, and perspective. The definition for the character strength of humor is liking to laugh or smile and making other people do the same. It also means to have a cheerful view on life to see its lighter side and maintain a good mood. This character strength falls under the category of transcendence. Transcendence describes strengths that provide a sense of connection to something higher in meaning and purpose than ourselves. The character strength of kindness is defined as being generous and doing favors and good deeds for others. This character strength is categorized under the virtue category of humanity. Character strengths that fall under this category are manifested in caring relationships with others and are mainly displayed in one-on-one relationships. The character strength of perspective is defined as being able to provide wise council to others due to the ability to look at the world in a way that makes sense to yourself and others. This strength falls under the virtue category of wisdom, which deals with strengths involving the way we gain
After reflecting on my strengths, I realize that they can help me deal with the negative perceptions I have of myself. Being futuristic aids me to think in terms of possibilities which allows me to convalesce from setbacks, problems and disappointments. I always have a plan that allows me to interchange around any barriers. When goals do not succeed as I planned for them to, I feel extremely anxious about not having control over the situation. I feel that it is necessary to have more than one disposition to rely on, because if I expect setbacks, there should be no reason to experience high anxiety since I already know which move to make next. I have such high expectations for the future with a plan to support them. Being restorative helps me to work through any weakness or limitations I may experience. When my mother-in-law makes me feel like what I am doing is unimportant, I feel incompetent and I let those feelings distract my thoughts away from school. My weakness in this situation is not standing up for myself and because she is an important person in my life, I steer away from letting her know how I feel so I don’t come across as being disrespectful. Being restorative can help me overcome this and stand up for myself to those who doubt me, especially when it comes to my plans to achieve my dreams. Having consistency and being an achiever
