Let me tell you the history of theater.
The first form of acting is said to be when cavemen returned from a hunt, they would act out the hunt. The origins of Greek theater was a way for the people to worship the god Dionysus, the god of fertility. They believed that if they acted out his stories than the land will be fertile and many babies will be born. The first actor recorded is know to be a man named Thespis ( women were not allowed to act ). It is said that Thespis was the first to say his line individually as if he was the character.
I am truly inspired by a great actor named Tyler Perry. Perry is an actor, director, and writer. He is usually apart of all steps of producing his productions. He is widely known for starring in his comedic plays and movies as Madea. Actually, to go back to history quickly, Madea is the name of a famous Ancient Greek play. Because Mr.Perry is a writer and director, he can make sure that his work is exactly how he visions it. Tyler Perry is truly a master at the theatrical
art. There are a few things needed to be a good actor. First, you should develop a background for your character. The back story sways the way a character would think. Secondly, you must study your lines. If you have not scene your lines when you're auditioning or onstage then you can just get to stepping. And lastly, write in your script. Annotations in your script will help you to understand your character or remember the lines. So at the end of the day, actors make acting look easy. In order to prepare for all of that, there are a few steps I can take in high school. One thing is to join the school theater. School theater is something that coukd look good when applying to a performing arts school. I can also join community theater, it's a great way to get discovered. Last thing is that I can get a agent. Agents help actors get auditions and things like that. When I do make it big I won't forget about my community like some people. I really want to open a production company without subliminal messages in my media. I also want to give back. I want to be able to buy KWA and KAC new buildings and I want to renovate some of the abandon homes. I will grantee that I will make dreams come true. I will look into the kids that live in bad neighborhoods. So at the end of the day, being an actor, a thespian, is the bomb. P.S. Don't say the last sentence in a airport/plane
Greek Theater first started with festivals in which gods would be honored and where people would come together to celebrate. This event was known as the Festival of Dionysus since it honored Dionysus, who was the god of grape harvest or winemaking. During this festival, people would perform acts and songs to welcome the god of grape and winemaking. Many people attend the festival especially the performance and it became really popular. Soon, the acts that were performed at the Festival of Dionysus evolved from not only performing for Dionysus but instead all the Greek gods and also about life. This started the time of Greek Theater. As theater became a big part in the lives of Greek people, it became their duty or responsibility to attend these
I've always wanted to be an actor. I've always liked performing. We used to live in Alberta, and I didn't have much opportunity there. But we moved here {Vancouver, BC}, and I got an agent, and here I am.
In 400-500 B.C. the initial motive for theatre and performing arts was not entertainment, but specifically for the people to see and hear stories about Greek heroes and gods. Oedipus Rex, is known for its horrific plot, but it was also one of the first performed plays. It was controversial and caused distress because the plot contended with their former believe about fate and one's control over their life. Theatre was used to influence the thinking of the audience and forced them to see things from a different perspective not only on stage, but in their life, long after the last scene was performed. This is where communication comes into play because if it is not carried out the way it was intended, one scene or line can change everything. For an actor, paternalism can take place the moment they audition and the script is in their hands. The process begins with reading the physical lines. Once they are read and understood, the creating of the character begins. Whether the character has 2 lines or 100 lines the character needs to be developed. Some of questions that need to be asked and answered are: who is this person, where are they going, who are they talking to, what emotions are they feeling and depending on the feelings, are they showing them through their words or body language? Their specific job is to have an understanding of what the piece is about and
Many ancient civilizations witnessed Greek theater and tragedy as the world’s first theatrical performances. Tragedy comes from the Greek word Tragos and Ole meaning goat song. The dithyramb, a song and dance performed in honor of the god Dionysus, was performed at a ceremony in Athens; it told the story of Dionysus’s life and his many adventures. Throughout the years the playwrights added things other than Dionysus’s life to the performance. They added other gods and some hero’s that made a name for themselves within the temple. As more time passed they added more actors, choruses, masks and costumes as a way to grab the audience’s attention and participation. Theater was first seen by ancient Greece before it spread all throughout western civilization. For the Greeks it was more than a culture, it was how they worshipped the gods. The three great playwrights changed theater for the better by introducing multiple characters, by adding drama and irony to the stage and by utilizing props such as masks and costumes; from the work they have done only some remains, but the pieces that remain show the depth and creativeness of the Greek theater.
Good acting relies on a kinesthetic, an intrapersonal, and an interpersonal intelligence, all of which work together to form a creative expression. There exist limitless styles of acting; there is always something to learn.
The theater of Dionysus stands at the foot of the acropolis and its date originates back to the 6th Century, B.C.. Its originally wood seats rise in tiers above one another against the slope of the acropolis, creating a natural setting for the plays (D'ooge, 231). The Greek Theater was built to house a drama which, during the festivals of Dionysus, had evolved from the long tradition of choral hymns which were presented each year. As Greek culture changed and flourished, entertainment transformed from being a series of choral chanting and dancing to placing an emphasis on the actor. As the actors' importance grew, there became a need for a stage from which they could be seen by each of the fourteen thousand spectators the theater housed. The chorus was still a very active part of the entertainment and they resided in the orchestra (Norwich, 64). The orchestra was the oldest part of the Greek theater and thus, when the actor was given
Theatre flourished in Greece, particularly in Athens, between c. 550 BC and c. 220 BC. During its beginnings theatrical performances were part of Dionysia, a festival held in honour of the god Dionysus. The plot of the plays was always inspired by Greek mythology, a theme that is still common today. Many modern plays and movies have been directly based on or incorporated elements of Greek mythology or simply mythology in general. Every play had a chorus, though the size and importance of it varied. The chorus was used to provide background and summary information to the audience. The chorus is still used in modern musicals to provide interpretation of the mental and emotional states of main characters. The chorus is also a precursor to the narrator.
came about because of the “problematic relationship that Greeks believed existed between gods and humans” (Perseus Digital Library). Greek theater, however, is different from our business enterprise theater. The Athenian theater was financed by the Athenian state. It was an essential part of the Athenian religious festival: the City Dionysia (AbleMedia LLC). During this festival, three tragic playwrights were chosen to present a tetralogy. A tetralogy is a group of four dramas: three tragedies and one satyr play that are performed consecutively (Dictionary.com). The three tragic poets competed with one another while their efforts were ranked by a panel of judges (AbleMedia LLC). This fundamental part of Greek culture brought ...
For example Tyler Perry has held his title as a playwright from 1992- to present. Perry is still active in his job as a playwright, as well as, a director and actor. As described above, a person in the field of playwright, must obtain a bachelor’s degree in English or some type of writing program. Another factor that focuses on a playwright’s job is his or her skills; they have to be dedicated to writing on a daily basis, he or she must also be very skilled at telling a good story, and of course, they have to have a creative mind. Furthermore, when a playwright constructs a script, he or she should keep in mind that their writing will not always make the stage the first time. Therefore, the individual should keep molding their work until it’s a masterpiece. Take Mr. Tyler Perry for example, his first attempt to execute a stage play was unsuccessful. Now he is a modern-day playwright that arose from being deep in poverty to fame. This brilliant person writes and performs in his own plays and movies. Perry is most famously known for his role as Madea, who was born to entertain and inspire the audiences. But Perry did not achieve success over night; he started out very poor. Living in poverty, Perry’s first step toward fame all started by embracing inspiration from the television host, Orpah Winfrey. Perry started keeping a journal and writing down personal experiences in his life. What he did not realize was that these experiences would soon become the starting point of his career. Perry’s career began in 1992, with the premier of his first stage play I Know I’ve Been Changed. His other works, which included Madea, soon
Imagine that you are in Athens during the fifth century. Today is the festival called City Dionysia, and you are currently seeing a dithyramb, which is a choral song dedicated to Dionysus, the god of fertility and wine. It is sung by 50 men dressed up in goat skins as satyrs. However, you have seen the same ritual a number of times and start to lose interest in the festival. Then, you hear about a fellow Athenian named Thespis, who has a different way to present this ritual. Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to embark on a journey to visit the beginnings of Greek theater. As I have mentioned before, the origins lie in the goat song known as tragoidia. In 534 BC, Thespis was the first actor, added narration, and acted out dramatic episodes.
Al pacino said, "The actor becomes an emotional athlete. The process is painful - my personal life suffers". In other words, "Acting is simply more than walking out on the stage" as Dr. Stevenson would put it. It is more than just reading the lines. To be a true actor, I believe it takes inner capabilities such as learning life. In all the books I have read, all the chapters we have reviewed in class, and in all honesty…Al Pacino is an actor I cannot forget.
An actor is a person who performs on a stage or on the screen. To be a thespian
William Shakespeare’s plays have shown some of the most intriguing and insightful acting practices from past to present. The performances of his plays have influenced many actors and companies to abide by the guidelines that were put in place so many years ago. Shakespearean plays are in a sense in a category of their own as they have evolved with the changing times, while staying in similar forms.
Theater was an important part of Ancient Greek Civilization. History of Greek theatre began with religious festivals which aim to honor Dionysus, a god. During the festivals some citizens sing songs and perform improvisation plays and other participants of festivals judges this performances to decide which one of them was the best. These plays form the foundation of the Greek Theatre. Because of the competition between performers to create best performances, plays gained an aesthetic perspective and became a form of art. So, theatre as a part of religious rituals took attention of people and gained an importance in Ancient Greek Society.
Theatre first came about from all different cultures acting out part of their bible, or performing rituals to the Gods. It was not until the middle ages when dramatists wrote about all aspects of life. Theatre has therefore changed continuously to suit the demands of each new age for fantasy, spectacle, or serious drama.
