“It’s a free country!” That is a common phrase we hear and say. Yet, after thinking about this phrase, we discover that this should be about our real freedoms, and our independent country. Our independence and the freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly and the Redress of Grievances. Honestly, as a privileged American many people do not think about these freedoms, because we just are used to it. Every time you say a prayer, state your opinion, or gather together as a group to name a few, you are using your securely held freedoms. Also, we rarely think about our fight for independence that happened in the Revolutionary War. Without the freedom and independence I have today, my life would be very different. A lot of people, even children, would agree with that. Freedom and independence is truly America’s gift to my Generation. On July 4th, 1776 our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence to declare our independence. As we wave our hand-held flags and watch fireworks, we feel how great it is to have the independence and freedom we have today. As we stand up and place our hand over our heart as we sing “The Star Spangled Banner” we can imagine our fight for independence. In the first 5 amendments, all of America’s freedoms are included. That may be where the good is, but the whole Constitution includes more and more gifts. All of the Constitution sums it up to be a huge blessing of freedom our founding fathers strived to accomplish. We can thank the founding fathers for many things, but the freedom we have today did not come with an easy price. It was a rough, rocky road, but we accomplished it.
