Do you consider your life full of freedom?Perhaps you overlooked some freedoms and took them for granted. Freedom is defined as having the power or right to speak, think, or act without hindrance or restraint. There are many examples of freedom being demanded. Even America has had its share of wars for freedom from the Revolutionary war to the Civil war. Freedom is never given, but demanded.
One may claim that freedom was bestowed upon us upon the day of birth with freedom of thought. Now this was given to all humans for humans all have consciousness. While this may be true, what is this freedom of thought useful for if you cannot act upon said thought? With the novel Fahrenheit 451, Faber informs Montag that, he could have spoken up, but did

not because no one else would(Bradbury,110). Faber demonstrated his freedom to think, but could not act because he was not free from fear and oppression. Faber was scared of the punishments and could have defended innocents, but instead did nothing and grunt. What is the point of thought if he couldn’t act without any fear? This was not freedom because he couldn’t demand that those claimed guilty were innocent. He was never given the chance to act without consequence which is why freedom must be demanded. Some people were not born with the freedom of being a member of society so they had to demand it.The African Americans up until 1963 had not been treated as members of society, but as a rapists, murderers, and even as slaves even though most whites abused the blacks. In the “I Have a Dream” speech, Dr. Martin Luther King says even after Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation, blacks were still mistreated despite the document stating they were free(MLK,48). It was proven that even with that document along with the Bill of Rights and the constitution that they were still not free from discrimination. When King had to speak out at the Lincoln memorial about the mistreatment of blacks it proved he was demanding their freedom. Their freedom was never given in the till the protesters demanded it. King also states that America would be in unrest unless the black man was granted rights(MLK,49). It meant that protests and demands would not stop unless they were granted equality by ending segregation. This whole situation shows that in the eyes of African Americans that they were not truly free. Freedom was never given and had to be demanded even after the blacks were “freed” as slaves. Clothes help us define who we are displays our personality.
Women in Iran don’t have this luxury. They never got the choice to wear what they wanted to because religious customs were enforced into the law. In “Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return”, Satrapi states, Little details made a big difference in the fight against the rule(Satrapi,84). When some of the women defied the laws set by the government, they discreetly had demanded their freedom.Makeup or colored clothing displayed their demand. They wanted to express themselves so they rebelled with these little actions risking arrest. Their choice of clothes was never given to them so they demanded the right by rebelling. After years of not being able to express themselves they felt as though they were representing the community with the same clothes, but they wanted their own. Azar Nafisi says in “Reading Lolita in Tehran”,” Does she realize how dangerous she can be when every stray gesture is a disturbance to public safety?”(Nafisi,83). The author emphasizes that many actions and clothing are banned so there is opportunity to rebel. Rebelling is demanding for it to be changed. Clothing and movements can be an act that represents the demand. This granted them the ability to rebel and
demand. Freedom must always require a desire and demand. As the innovators of tomorrow we must keep that in mind and think to the future and consider the possibilities if there could be equal freedom for all. Fight for freedom no matter the cost because there will always be a cost.
My breath was heavy as I was sprinting from them. I could hear them on my tail. But the only this that was racing through my mind was “I have the book.”
People in both Venezuela and in Fahrenheit 451 are not allowed to speak out or go against the government without the government's harsh retaliation. Both of these instances show suppression of freedom of speech, but this theme is more strongly expressed by Maduro’s actions.
According to Dictionary.com freedom means “the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.” Freedom. What does freedom mean to you? Even though freedom means the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, I believe that freedom means being able to accomplish what you desire and when you desire it without anyone saying anything, by reason of the comparison and contrast of our society and the society in the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the negation of the word freedom, and synonyms of the word freedom. I believe that you should accept the consequences of the actions you take when you have your “freedom” as well.
According to the Collins Dictionary, “freedom” is defined as “the state of being allowed to do what you want to do”(“freedom”). The definition of freedom is simple, but make yourself free is not easy. Concerning about some common cases which will take away your freedom, such as a time-cost high education attainment. In this essay, I shall persuade that everyone should try his or her best to insist on pursuing freedom. For the individual, it appears that only if you have your personal freedom, can you have a dream; for a country, it seems that only if the country is free, can the country develop; for mankind, it looks like that only if people has their own pursuit of freedom, can their thoughts evolve.
we continue to disregard knowledge and focus on the irrelevant parts of life. In the
In my English class at Capital High School, we recently read the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and we discussed whether freedom is really free. In my opinion freedom isn't really free. The definition of freedom itself differs from person to person. Some describe it as a inner freedom while others as an outer freedom. The real definition of freedom is that everyone has the right to chose for themselves, bot not for anyone else. In the word freedom they are many contradictions. Freedom is everywhere yet nowhere. We are captured by the government yet we are free.
In conclusion, freedom is having power to inflict a positive change on the world. The ability to be yourself and not change for anyone. The right to choose who rules and who doesn’t rule. Having a chance to get out there and show the world what your all about and who you really are. These are all definitions of freedom and what it truly means to be
Freedom is a state of mind and until we embrace freedom we will be left behind. No one can give ‘freedom.’ To the contrary, freedom cannot be attained through war. Freedom is the ability to liberate your mind. People in prison are free and those on this side of the
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Freedom can stretch too many things such as being able to do as they please, they are not forced into doing anything that someone may want. The citizens of the United States are not made to do anything that one may not want to do; like
Envision living amongst a community, granted a few civil rights. Just about everyone is required to live the same way, as their surrounding society. A world where humanity is only given a small number of personal freedoms and their opinions make a very little impact on the community. This type of lifestyle can be demonstrated in the novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. The people try to assemble an utopia, by seizing their rights. In our modern society we are very different. We are given multiple freedoms and rights. In several ways, the lives in Fahrenheit 451 differ from ours, but in the end, the things that are learned, can teach us essential lessons.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the author Ray Bradbury successfully makes the reader focus on the value and the meaning of a free society. He does this by setting his characters in an oppressive society where the government seeks to control and manipulate the citizens by destroying their individuality and thus the basic essentials of what it is like to be human. (He does this) by early on raising in the mind of the main character, Montag, who´s function is to control society by burning books by having a young girl, Clarisse, confronting him with he question of wether he is really happy. From there on, Montag explores what it is to be happy and how a society, by being oppressive, can take away the opportunity for a free society.
In The United States of America, freedom is an undeniable right granted to all citizens. However, in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the idea of an American future without freedom of thought is explored in depth. The primary way that freedom of thought is restricted in the novel is through the American government’s ban on literature. The ban arose from the enticing nature of new technology and the challenging ideas and controversy that arose from books, controversy that offended minorities. Guy Montag, the central character, feels the affect of a life without freedom through his constant internal struggle on whether he is satisfied with his life of material pleasures or if he longs to formulate intellectual ideas. Unlike Montag, most
Freedom is a very wide topic therefore every individual defines freedom in their own way. If someone asked me this What is freedom to you? I will definitely freeze for a moment or mumble. The reason for me to freeze in a moment is because freedom can
Freedon! This is a main topic on everybody’s mind at some point and time in their life but what is freedom? Freedom is being able to live your life without someone telling you what to do and how to do it. The characters in Orwell’s 1984 do not experience freedom as evidence by the freedom being controlled by the government and not the citizens, by the government brain washing them, and by the government getting the kids to spy on their parents.
In the novel 1984 there are plenty of symbols to represent the oppression of freedom. In 1984 you have zero freedoms and are victim to a vicious system of totalitarian rule. Your mind and atmosphere are altered to fit the ideal society of the power hungry government. They control every aspect of your life. They control aspects of your life you believed no one could such as your mind, thoughts, and how you feel. They control you through fear and oppress every freedom you have. Big brother brainwashes you into thinking the government gives you these liberties which in turn makes you love big brother. In reality they are your worst enemy and take every aspect of your life and influence you into accepting lies and dismissing the truth.
