The Great Concept of American Freedom Early America was a place for anyone to live their life the way that they wanted, as it is now, but back then this was a new concept. Much of this idea comes from the freedoms obtained by living here. Many other countries in the world had many freedoms, but not as numerous as they were in America shortly after the country was founded. Americans during the late 1700's and early 1800's embraced their freedoms and became leaders and expanders, and what we now consider the founders of many present-day cities and towns. One thing that has been present throughout the generations of people living in America, is the desire to set themselves apart from other nations. This want was supplied to the American people in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. These two documents gave the American people everything they needed to set them apart from the rest. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, America was able to create an identity including freedom, religion, and individuality that is very unique to this country. Perhaps the most exclusive aspect of American freedom is stated directly in the Declaration of Independence. It states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" (Jefferson). This well-known statement truly incorporates all facets of what it means to be free in America. The citizens of this country have the right to live. They have the right to be free of restriction and control, to do what they please. And they have the right to be happy in whatever way that might be. America would not have been involved in all the wars that have taken place since the Revolutionary War. The men and women that died in these wars would have lived a full life and never would have had to deal with politics. American freedom has always been different from the freedoms of other countries. Our freedoms are awesome in their possibilities. The Constitution allows for endless opportunity in changing times, yet preserves the most delicate of all rights. Early Americans were foreigners who appreciated the choices they had been given, choices including immigration, religion, speech, and suffrage. There are alternatives to what we know in America as freedom, but throughout the history of the world, none has come close to creating and maintaining a country of satisfied individuals.
The revolution brought major changes in the system but if seeing from a larger view everything remained the same. The questions that the American Revolution went deeply through were the slavery question, the women emancipation and the system of politics. But at the end radical changes were very little and the lives lost were not worth the advantages for the country. The first issue the revolutionary war had to face was slavery. Social changes never touched the lives of white men since they already had rights and benefits but instead they touched slaves and women even though the scene remained unchanged after the end of the war.
America’s triumphant victory in the Revolutionary War was an event that was crucial for the continuation and prosperous growth that would emerge and flourish in the United States. Luckily, the Americans defeated the British with their experienced generals and high spirits of Patriots that advocated democracy across the land. The winning of this war and signing of the Treaty of Paris resulted in a new world for colonists, where they were now recognized as an independent country that could create its own democratic legislature and governing documents. However, if the outcome of the war would have been different, life in the colonies would have led had a completely different path for our society today.
In conclusion, the American Revolution was very revolutionary. It was a huge milestone in American history. The war not only gave America their own independence from the most powerful country in the world, it gave the American government the basis of how it runs today and brought about many social and political changes. Although many historians see the war as a change of power from one greedy power to another, Americans wouldn’t have a democracy and citizens wouldn’t have the rights they have.
Writer Marilyn Vos Savant once stated, “What is the essence of America? Finding and maintaining that perfect, delicate balance between freedom ‘to’ and freedom ‘from’.” When you are an American, freedom is just one of the multitudinous privileges that come with the package. Benefits such as rights, the pursuit of happiness, and diversity are some additional perquisites. However, everything has flaws and America has a few.
What would happen if the American Revolution never happened? Would the colonists still be under control of Britain? Would the 13 colonies still be only colonies? How would the Native Americans lives be today? Was the American Revolution really revolutionary and did it bring radical change within the colonists lives and was more helpful than harmful? Although America gained freedom from defeating Britain in the Revolutionary War, it was more harmful than helpful because of treatment of the Native Americans, slaves, and the fact that government didn’t improve.
The American Revolution shaped all of these issues throughout the time period. It shows how radical our government turned out to be. These impacts came to show America that we can be independent and control our own nation. I think that the American Revolution helped turned our country around for the good. It helped America gain the responsibility it needed in order to become an independent nation. Without the independence they gained during this time, we would not stand where we are today. It shaped our country in many ways that became helpful to us later down the road.
If we hadn’t gone to war, many things would have happened. First, the Great Depression probably would have continued because it was the jobs and income from the war that brought us out of the Depression. Second, the Nazi’s would have been able to continue with their death camps and many millions more people would have died. Third, we never would have gotten our atomic revenge on the Japanese. However, it was those same atomic weapons that fueled the Cold War, and left people living in fear for the next several decades.
At the time of the American Revolution, no one could have predicted how successful the thirteen colonies would become. Not only did the colonies defeat anarchy, unite, and grow into the United States known today, but something more was achieved. Those early states created a free country filled with many cultures and peoples, brought together by a shared love for freedom. It was a new concept, yet it was mostly welcomed. The American Revolution changed American society economically, but was even more greatly altered politically and socially, as can be seen through numerous documents from those times.
Freedom is something that is not taken lightly in our country. With so many people in America, and so many different religions and views, there will never be a way to make every single person happy. People have the right to believe what they choose, say what they want to say, and do what they want to do. They have the right to worship and take part in ceremonies they choose. It is not for the government to tell them how to live their life. There may be restrictions on certain things but they do not require you to believe a specific way. America is a privileged nation and a free country and the people have every right to be thankful for all the freedoms we have been given.
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Freedom can stretch too many things such as being able to do as they please, they are not forced into doing anything that someone may want. The pursuit of freedom, recognition, and protection under the Constitution has been a struggle for African Americans. Their journey has been filled with slavery, physical and psychological torture, and persecution. While most of their hardships were experienced in the South, the North was not considered a safe haven unless an African American was a documented free slave. Even then they were not considered equal for a long time. While black and white abolitionists and free slaves in America were advocating abolishing slavery, Southern whites were willing to defend slavery's existence until they were forced to abandon it. This force, rooted in ethnocentrism, power, racism, and the pursuit of wealth, was difficult to overcome, but ultimately it was defeated through education, civil war, conflicting economic interests, rebellions, and courage.
We have a lot of freedom and rights in America that sometimes take for granted. I think that these are just a few of the important rights that we have in America. Freedom of speech, free education, and freedom of religion are three of the greatest things that Americans have and could sometimes take for granted if we are not careful.
Freedom is a very strong characteristic that America has. It's what America is founded on- freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. An American can choose the religion they want to believe in, the job they want to apply for, who they want to marry, and so many other things. For instance, they have the complete freedom to travel in the whole country, freedom to do work at any workplace where applicable, and freedom to marry with the same gender in most of the states, freedom to gain knowledge at every stage of life, freedom to gain justice and equal rights, and freedom to participate in any government and non-government departments and political groups as well. This shows that in American culture freedom is considered as the real-life notion over which people represent America as a unified and stable nation.
Initially, I believe that Liberty has always been something important to America. For example, the famous quote, “give me liberty, or give me death.” This expresses how important liberty is to Americans. With out liberty and freedom, the United States would have never had the courage to leave King George for their own taste of liberty. The meaning of liberty to America has changed throughout the years of America. The original definition of Liberty is, “the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one 's way of life, behavior, or political views.” This definition has be expressed in so many ways in America, as in also freedom. Famously known as land of the free, the actual definition of freedom means, “the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” Both of these words have been shown tremendously in the United States, this is what defines us to be who we are
