When you think your average baseball player, what do you think of? The player usually has all of his arms, legs, and no physical disabilities. Anyone who plays baseball would think it is hard to imagine that a person born without a right arm is able to play the game and let only be able to be a pitcher. Jim Abbott faces all the odds and has ten-year career in the major leagues. Abbott had to faces many obstacles throughout life and his playing career. Jim Abbott grew up being picked on since he didn’t have a right arm. When Abbott was younger he would use a steel hook as right hand and other children were afraid of him. Boniface Wimmer is regarded as one of the greatest missionaries of the nineteenth century. His mission was to establish a Benedictine monastery abroad in the United States to help the thousands of Catholic Germans who fled from their homeland in search of a better life. “Today, there are over thirty Abbeys and monasteries that take their root from Archabbot Boniface Wimmer, O.S.B.” With the grace of God, Boniface Wimmer succeeded. He was considered to be a “man on a mission.” His tenacious attitude aided him in spreading the mission of the Benedictine Order across the Atlantic Ocean. The Benedictines were seen not only as missionaries, but also as teachers and priests. The strong sense of bonding and connection within the community was vital to the Benedictine Order then, as it still is today.

In the poem “Shine and the Sinking of the Titanic”, Shine is a hero. Shine is considered a hero because he left the sinking ship Titanic and swam to shore in order to save his life from a forthcoming tragedy. In this poem, it is apparent that Shine was an employee of the Titanic crew. Shine was a very intelligent and wise man, he did not heed what the Captain, his boss, was telling him. Shine knew that something was wrong when he told the Captain that there was “forty feet of water in [the] boiler-room floor”.

\On March 25, 1911 the Triangle Shirtwaist factory located on the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors of the Asch building, in New York, caught fire. The owners of the Asch building were Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. The fire started on the eighth floor and was caused by a dropped cigarette. There were little precautions taken by the owners in case of a fire. There were only about twelve red pails of water in the building in case of a fire, one exit was locked, and one of the two elevators was out of order. The owners of the factory survived by escaping on to the roof and were able to get to the building next to theirs. It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to get the fire under control. There were about 600 employees in the factory that day

We have all heard about the Titanic. Either we have watched the romance movie or done our research in a different way. No matter where we get our information from we know the biggest parts of the tragedy. The ship Titanic crashed into an iceberg on a cold April night on the Atlantic Ocean while sailing its first trip. But haven’t you ever wanted to know more details about? Maybe how the people who were on it and survived? How could the situation be prevented? Couldn’t they have saved more people? Well in the book “A Night to Remember” it has details on the Titanic you have probably never thought of knowing. While reading the first chapter some parts really caught my attention. One was when people felt the jolt from the collision with the ice berg people didn’t suspect what tragedy was to come. A girl named Marguerite Frolicher, who was accompanying her father on a business trip, woke up with a jump since she was half asleep she was thinking about ‘little white lake ferries’ landing sloppily which made her laugh and thought to herself “Isn’t it funny…we’re landing!”. They really did...
