Human resource – Foxconn case Policy choices Employee influence The workers that assembled Ipads and Iphones were working in a dangerous environment with terrible labor conditions, the accidents in the plants occurred because of the lack of safety conditions. The workers involved in an accident were often injured because of an explosion or sometimes it will cost their lives, they were working 7 days a week and often working overtime that they could hardly walk. The explosion that occurred in 2010, injured workers in Ipad factories when they were ordered to use a poisonous chemical to clean iphone screens, within 2 years, the explosion blasts killed four people and injured 77 people. Apple has been warned about the Hazardous conditions before the explosions occurred, after many accidents or suicidal, Apple did not planned to do anything about the safety conditions and labor conditions. During the years before 2012, loyal Apple customers were in protest and petition when they found out that the labor conditions of Apple in Foxconn were unaccepted, the issue emerged to a worldwide attention. Also, the customers did not want to buy Apple products anymore because of the increasing number of accidents or suicidal in Foxconn. The employees were working in a dangerous environment and living in dorms that looked like a prison. These issues came to the attention that Apple decided to join Fair Labor Association, a monitoring group including at least 43 violations of Chinese Laws and regulations. The workers were surveyed by the monitoring group, and almost the half, experienced or witnessed an accident in the factory, also they were not satisfied about the wages because it was not sufficient to cover the basic needs and the medical ne... ... middle of paper ... ...cause of the bad safety conditions, workers are ordered to use poisonous chemical to clean iphone screens, or explosions occurred because of aluminum dust which could be easily solved by installing ventilation. If Apple wants to prevent bad reputation, they have to take these issues in consideration, regardless if it cost money. By researching the current problems (cause-and-effect), it will help Foxconn to prevent the explosions in the future, which it will save a lot of lives. Apple is careless with the working conditions and the safety conditions, this will occur a lot of obstacles in the future. Therefore, Apple needs to hire educated Human Resource employees in order to focus on these problems that keeps occurring. It is not only about the product quality but how it is manufactured, regardless if the labor costs are low, it should not cost the people’s life.
