Fort Bragg: My First Road Trip
When you are a teenager you reach a certain point in your life when you want to be independent. You get this feeling that you want to do something on your own to prove you can. When I was seventeen, in the fall of 2001, I had that feeling that I needed to do something on my own. I needed an adventure to show everyone that I was old enough to be on my own for once. I needed something exciting and new. I talked to my friend Annie and we came up with a plan for our adventure. We decided to go on a road trip to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, and this is my story.
It was our first road trip with no adults to watch over us or to help us in any way. Annie had a cousin named Steve who was a paratrooper at Fort Bragg. Steve was getting ready to leave for Kosovo to go on a peace keeping mission in November. Steve would be gone for six months and Annie wanted to see him before he left.
The reason we picked the month of October to go on our road trip was because Annie’s parents were in Germany visiting her sister. If her parents were home then they would not of allowed us to go to North Carolina. Annie called her parents and told them that we were going camping for the weekend. They said Annie could go and to call them when we got to the camp site. Annie’s parents did not trust her, so of course we had to lie a little bit. My mom, on the other hand, was a pretty understanding person so we told her where we were really going. She said that it was okay for us to go, but she did not want me to take my car. I told her that we were taking Annie’s parents Cadillac, but we really did not because they would notice the mileage. Our first choice of a car was Annie’s Volkswage...

... wait was and they said twenty-five minutes, so we put our name on the list. We were shocked; we thought that the wait would be a lot longer than twenty-five minutes. We went outside and sat on a bench in front of the restaurant while we waited. They finally called our name and we went inside. We ordered our food and made small talk while we waited. Then it was time to say goodbye. We followed them to the exit of the base and beeped as we drove away.
Road trips are fun and exciting especially if you are on your own. The road trip to Fort Bragg was an excellent adventure and I will always remember it. The trip was also a good experience for my first road trip. Sure some embarrassing events occurred during the trip, but it was all in fun. I can not wait until my next adventure. I know it will be as wild and crazy, if not more, as my first road trip was.
The Road to Valley Forge The book that I chose to review was The Road to Valley Forge, How Washington Built the Army that Won the Revolutionary War, written by John Buchanan. This is a book that covers the beginning of the revolutionary war in America from the time that George Washington was selected as commander-in-chief of the army, until his army entered winter quarters at Valley Forge. It encompasses the weather conditions that Washington and his army had to endure, as well as the scrutiny that Washington always seemed to be under. The scrutiny came from people in Congress who believed that the war was going to be quick and wanted a large, decisive battle fought. George Washington took control of the revolutionary army on 2 July 1775.
Haller (1763) injected a clear fluid into the periosteum showing that “the origin of bone is the artery carrying the blood and in it the mineral elements” putting forward the idea that the cardiovascular system was responsible for bone formation. This was supported by the previous work of Hunter (1754)
I started to walk across the street to my friend Lacey’s house. Lacey lives just outside Detroit, but like my family, her family comes to the cape for the summer. Our families’ have been friends for about 10 years, but we normally don’t see or talk to each other during the year, only summertime seems to bring us together. Traditionally Lacey and I leave for the beach together, even at age 7 we walked with our mothers, so I knew I had to tell her about this errand before I left for town.
Before, I could even take note, it was already October. It was time for me to pack everything in my room, and say my final goodbyes to my family members. I was going to leave everything that meant a lot to me behind. Previously, before October, we picked up my dad from the airport so that he could help us load all of our belongings to the U-Haul truck. Lily, ‘my cousin’, (we aren’t related, she is just a very close friend who I consider family) was staying with use because she want to see her father, who was also living in Denver. My mom and dad, sister, uncle, cousin, and I all stayed at the house one last night. I remember that my sister said that all her friends gathered around my mom’s car to wave goodbye to her. Her closest friends got very emotional and they started to cry. Not only did the move affect me, it also affected my sister greatly. It was like someone had given her a punch in the stomach. By the next day, we had everything in the U-Haul truck, and it was time for me to leave my precious Vegas behind. We had now started the drive to
My mom had been going to school in Greeley and staying at my Aunt Margaret's house . She had been away for two weeks and wanted to come home for the Fourth of July weekend. My mom had suggested that I go back with her and visit colleges, shop, go to movies and just spend time together. I had been feeling pretty sorry for myself since she had been gone. I had been working alot as a maid and helping my dad run the house, I was getting very irritated with my siblings as I felt that I was the only family member doing my part to help my dad. I was really excited to have a week with my mom to myself. The whole ride over we were talking about what I wanted to do that week. Making plans and having "me time" seemed very important at the time.

My Dad wanted to take us parasailing, and my sister and Carrie (my new step mom) wanted to go shopping. We decided to wait for a boat to pick us up in the afternoon for parasailing, and before that we would go shopping. So we went shopping until we got hungry for some lunch. Me and Tori just wanted to get fast food because we didn’t want to be late for parasailing. My dad decided to just take us to Hardee’s, but it would take us awhile to get there because we had to go to the one closest to the boat, which was about an hour away. I love long car rides, so this was the time for rolling down my window and listening to my music on my
It was the start of the summer of 2009 and I just got done with my first year of middle school. From the first day of middle school I couldn’t wait to get off of school and start summer vacation and now the day is here. My family decided to take a vacation to Binghamton, which is in New York to visit my cousin. The car drive there was ten hours long and halfway on the trip we ran out of gas and was a couple of miles from the gas station so me and my dad and I had to walk there to get gas and come back to where the car was parked which made the car trip even longer and stressful. After that it was a smooth ride and we got to Binghamton in no time.
At school her classmates were talking about their Halloween costumes and Mya got extremely upset. She was mad that she didn’t have a costume and Halloween was approaching. Thus, after school when she went home, Mya asked her mother if she could buy her a Halloween costume, but her mom said no. This caused Mya to be mad for the rest of the evening. The next day when she went to school, her friends were still
The new freedom comes with a greater responsibility as well. Living alone, you’llbe facing the combined wrath of the dirty dishes, the laundry, and all kinds of new bills to pay. And you can’t ask your parents for financial assistance, it will only prove to them thatyou can’t make it out on your own.
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
