Film Reaction #2 Yabari Avalos Northeastern Illinois University Introduction In this Film Reaction paper will be about the documentary FOOD INC on how policies have affected human rights as well into international. The social problem is often our starting point as social workers, it is our awareness of some global problem that leads us to take an interest in international social work. As well on how international policies and on how our government is. We are expected to apply our strategies to make this world a better place. International Policies vs Individuals across boarders There is many concerns about the mechanisms for and responsibilities of social workers in effectively creating a global environment consistent with social work ethics and values, especially those concerned with social and economic justice and well-being for all people. The international policies affect the movement of individuals across boarders because social work is a Western invention and a product of modernity (Shriver, 2011). We, the United States, make assumptions for best models of practice. We believe by creating these international policies we are experts of the individuals across borders. Role of economics/corporations In the movie Food Inc., the Beef Products Inc. (BPI) cleanse with ammonia to kill E. coli in their hamburger meat filler. Eldon Roth, founder of BPI was asked if his meat is in most of the hamburgers in the country, he laughed and said “70%, but in five years, we think we’ll be in 100%, we will win against those competitors” (Food Inc., 2008). This example gets to show on how dangerously these corporation have power over our food, like meat. Conclusion Advocating is part of social work, successful advocacy depends on a network of individuals who educate themselves on the issues and contact their elected government officials. However, the key point of it all has to be committed. We must strive for the well-being of people despise the feeling that we might feel because of the role of government and policy.
