Moving forward with the decision of Kathy Moser and the teachers to not proceed with the intervention, we as a group decided to focus on our poster. After each group member was assigned their perspective task everyone began working on their individual parts. Lilia and myself were going to focus all our attention on the focus group. When I had a one on one meeting with Dr. Gabb earlier this week she informed me that the focus groups would be completed by her. Dr. Gaab and myself went on to discuss a few options for Lilia and myself. During our meeting, it was brought up to Dr. Gaabs attention that both the teachers and Ms. Moser wanted more information on what exactly we were doing with our research. For example, they wanted to know the reasoning …show more content…
for our research and what exactly were the group’s goals, and what were our exact findings. In addition, to making sure the teachers would have all their questions answered regarding our research we brainstormed on some ideas on how to accurately provide this information.
Since both the teachers and Kathy Moser wanted more information regarding our research, we decided that a brochure would be a very successful way to convey this information accurately. During the week, Lilia, Nick and myself had begun to discuss the brochure and drafted an outline. Lilia, Nick, and myself ran into a few complications because due to the passing of her grandmother she had to leave the country. Lilia being out of the country and in Mexico where technology is not as progressive it was difficult for us to communicate effectively and track our progress. Furthermore, even with these new barriers Lilia, Nick, and myself made it work since we decided to have skype meetings to make sure that progress was being made. In our brochure, we wanted to make sure that it was informative and that our research would be written in a promotional material. I took initiation by creating a google doc and wrote up our outline or what we had discussed. I then proceeded to work on the brochure. I made sure to share the google doc with the brochure information with everyone in the group so that they could check for spelling and grammatical
errors. Finally, once finished with the brochure I began transferring all our information on to the site Canva. Canva is a helpful site that has brochure outlines and clipart where you can personalize brochures or any forms of flyers. A few questions as a group we wanted to make sure we answered was explaining our research and the purpose and services. When going over the information we felt that out brochure was clear when reading it we felt it educated people about our research. Creating a brochure was hard work, but the brochure can be a valuable tool for explaining what our research is about, answering questions, educating our audience, or promoting our research.

The teaching project was to developed to educated adolescence about the rising obesity rates and the health issues that can arise. I needed to gather material about the subject matter that I knew they needed to be aware of. The information had to be formatted so that the teaching was understood to ensure that effective teaching took place. Then, I incorporated some learning interactive activities so that the information was retained and so that it kept their interest. One of the interactive activities was the most effective intervention that empowered the group to change their behavior. The activity involved guessing which foods belonged to the different food groups and guessing the calories they thought it contained in them. All the participants were very eager to answer the questions and when some of the questions they answered were wrong, they were interested in understanding why. I felt that effective learning was taking place.
Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
This week I worked closely with one of my clients who has some behavioral issues with their teachers. When I first met with this client I noticed immediately they had a hard time focusing and sitting still. After meeting with my field instructor who is licensed as a LCSW, we came to the conclusion that this child is showing symptoms of ADHD. Due to the child’s situation, they’re not able to go in for an appointment to confirm this possibility. Their dad is a single parent and is on disability where he can barely speak which has made it difficult for my client to get an evaluation. While working with my client it was necessary for me to understand where they were coming from and understand how my client’s diversity and difference, which was their potential diagnose of ADHD, characterized and shaped their human experience and how this has influenced the formation of their identity. So, while meeting with my client I encouraged them to be the expert of their own situation by allowing them to explain their own reasoning behind why they were having behavioral issues and what they were struggling
Atkinson (2000) among many others conceive of residential segregation as a multidimensional phenomenon that can be solved using empirical analysis. Likewise Atkinson wrote that segregation varies along five distinct axes of measurement: “evenness, exposure, concentration, centralization, and clustering.”– I am suggesting an alternative to researching segregation, focusing upon gaining an insight into peoples “on the ground” perceptions of segregation and if they feel if it is a relevant phenomenon in the area by using qualitative methods of interview. Allen (2008) argues that there is “an absence of reflexivity” concerning gentrification in social science research. It is important to understand my positionality as the researcher as an actor
...practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, and community members. I could tell they maintained the dignity of their profession, demonstrated integrity, and exemplified honesty.
During these observations, I will collect fieldnotes. At the end of the eight weeks, I will hold focus groups for the participating teachers. I will have questions prepared to help facilitate the conversation as needed. My plan for these focus groups is for the conversation to be more teacher directed to highlight and analyze what they find important and choose to discuss, related to the implementation in their classrooms, what they are noticing in their students, and what they are noticing in themselves and the impact on their jobs. Monique M. Hennick (as cited by Merriam & Tisdell, 2016) explains: “Perhaps the most unique characteristic of focus group research is the interactive discussion through which data are generated, which leads to a different type of data not accessible through individual interviews. During the group discussion participants share their views in light of what they have heard” (p. 114)
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
Focus groups can be used in my Applied Project, and in general, to gain a more accurate idea of how people feel or think. Bryman and Bell (2015) point out that when an interviewer only has one person to interview, that person may say untruths, knowingly or unknowingly, and in a group setting others are more likely to call that person out. More than one person allows individuals to possibly dig deeper in how or why they feel or think a certain way because people tend to feed off of each other and can bring discussions out of others. I may gather a bit more how followership is viewed, dealt with, and ways to improve the understanding and actions of various followers.
Sample: Study population will be consisted of undergraduate student volunteers who will participate in the fall session of Fit Families for Life.
The term methodology refers to the way in which we approach problems and try to find answers and in social science, it applies to how research is conducted, our assumptions, interest and purposes shape which methodology we choose (Steven, 2016:3).Qualitative research is understanding people from their own perspectives, their viewpoint and experiencing reality as they experience it. Qualitative research has many approaches or methods of collecting data and one of them is an interview which I have chosen to explain further based on it as a method of collecting data. The interview is the most common method of data gathering used in qualitative research and it is used in deferent ways by every main theoretical and methodological approach.
Why do I need group therapy when recovering from stimulant addiction? Staying away from stimulants after going through a rehabilitation or treatment program is hard, so seeking out a solid support group to provide group therapy for stimulant addiction is an often necessary step towards long-term recovery. The pull to return to stimulant use can be strong, but attending meetings with a support group full of people who are struggling with the same things can strengthen the resolve of someone recovering from stimulant addiction and help them to stay clean. Stimulant support groups can help recovering addicts remain committed to being drug-free in several ways. Encouragement Life in general can be quite discouraging, but life without stimulants can seem awful for
This course really opened my eyes to see how difficult it can truly be for those that are involved within an IEP, no only the student, but the parents as well as the advocates. This would have to be one of the first times I hurt for T as I realized how hard it must be for her as she is completing her academic assignments. When I first asked T if it would be okay for me to work alongside of her while I completed this project, she mentioned an insensitive tutor that compared her to “normal kids”. Possibly that tutor did not mean to sound that way, but I know that it must have hurt T to hear those words as it makes it seem like she is not normal. If T is not normal then what is she? This allowed me to see first hand that those who are involved
In reflection on my learning experience in the group class, I have gained clarity on what sorts of competencies of facilitating group therapy, as well as in what areas social workers and students tend to feel most strong in my practice. Regarding my specific gains in competencies, I feel that I learned the most and was most likely to gain specific group facilitating competencies at the weekly class. Learning in group class is taught me the tools to use to work with groups therapy, communities and also with individuals through the process of changes. In this past three months I think a lot of opportunities have been created to shadowing with (beside and behind) and being a part of group members to learn. In addition, this class has taught me about the skills and how effectively help
