Growth vs. Fixed Mindsets play a huge role in everyone's day-to-day life. Growth promotes self-improvement and resilience, as well as the willingness to learn new things and be better at old things. Fixed mindsets hinder personal development, limiting potential while lowering chances for overall achievement. The type of mindset you have is important not only to how people perceive you, but also to how far you let yourself grow in all aspects. A growth mindset is more beneficial than a fixed mindset because it promotes success in many facets of life, personal progress, and innovation. Students who embrace a growth mindset view obstacles as opportunities to grow and learn, not as challenges to their intelligence and ability. Their willingness to take on challenging tasks aids in the development of their resilience and problem-solving abilities. Many develop a growth mindset over time through self-reflection, open-mindedness, and practice. Most don’t even realize they have a fixed mindset and won't allow themselves to take on challenges or ask for help because of the worry of failing or looking less intelligent. Over the years in school, I was in honors and AP classes where you were praised for being the smartest in the class. Many times you see areas where students could help one another be more successful but were too ashamed to look or feel “dumber” than the other. This same issue encouraged these students to lie about their scores and not make an effort to improve. Carol speaks on this saying “Finally, the children who were praised for their intelligence lied about their scores more often than the children who were praised for their effort”.
