In this paper I will talk about how important it is to take care of your body and what to do tom make that happen. Within the last week, I was able to track my exercise, rest and health support. I will talk about my accomplishments and what I need to work on better. When I was tracking my exercise I was able to use my FitBit to help me better see my improvements. I concluded that I normally walk more that 10,000 steps a day; that is about 5 miles. “An average person has a stride length of approximately 2.1 to 2.5 feet. That means that it takes over 2,000 steps to walk one mile; and 10,000 steps would be almost 5 miles.” (The Walking Site, 2016, http://www.thewalkingsite.com/10000steps.html) When I’m at work, I tend to walk a lot more than …show more content…
I used my FitBit to help with this one also. Looking at a week of logging, I can see that I roughly get 6 hours to 8 hours of sleep each night. According to my FitBit, I can fall asleep after lying down in less the 30 minutes. To me, I think that is very good considering all the things I can lay there and think about. Also, the FitBit can track how many times I’m restless. According to FitBit Help (2016), “restless sleep is tossing and turning and not in a deep sleep.” I was anywhere from 7 times to 22 times restless on a night of sleep! I have never had a problem with going to sleep and staying asleep. That is one that my body does good! To get to sleep faster I have a diffuser next to my bed that I usually put lavender in. Lavender is supposed to calm the nerves and relax a person. One thing I would love to work on, would be go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning! Get into a better routine. I have always heard that is good for ones body. Even though I wake up rested, I would still like to improve on my sleep …show more content…
I read this quote written by Anthony Liccione a couple years ago and it has still stuck with me. It reads, “Everyone needs a house to live in, but a supportive family is what builds a home.” I strongly believe this! I have found an amazing group of friends that will be here for me when I need them to be! I have an amazing family that will always be there for me! And I also have two amazing dogs that make coming home so much better! Without them, I don’t know where I would be. I’m able to go to a job that I love. I could not imagine having to wake up and get ready for a job that I just dread. Also, my phone calls to back home mean the world to be. I may be only miles away from my parents but that phone call every day brightens up my face! I don’t have any proof but from what I have saw, the kids that don’t have a supporting family, are the ones that start being rebellious and getting into trouble. After logging my support for a week, I realized that I need to set a day aside where I can go visit my friends; just go out for coffee or lunch. I also realized that I need to spend more time with my sister since she is moving to Arizona in
In Fitbit for Bosses written by Lynn Stuart Parramore she talks about how bosses want to start monitoring their employees. Parramore shows her discomfort with this idea. She thinks that “big money seems poised to trump privacy”(Parramore). Which basically just means that for bosses is that money is over everything even privacy. Allowing bosses to monitor their employees is dishonest and manipulating. Some researchers have also found out that increasing surveillance has caused the decrease of productivity. Researchers warned them that the data can have big errors and people that look at the data that the fitbits can cherry-pick the information that supports their beliefs and ditch the rest of the information that leads to racial profiling. “Surveillance makes everyone seem suspicious, creating perceptions and expectations of dishonesty.” Workers will become dehumanized“(Parramore), it prevents them from experimenting and exercising the creativity on the job.” A woman from California filed a suit against her former employer because he forced her to to install a tracking app on her phone. She had to have it on her phone 24/7 or else she would
Health monitoring allows you to discover and treat health problems early, before consequences. Many psychological disorders, cancers, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders can be prevented by monitoring health and incorporating physical activity and exercise; for example: depression, breast cancer, obesity, cardiomyopathy, emphysema, and osteoarthritis. There are primary benefits that can be received from engaging in exercise or physical activity. One of the main benefits is reducing the risk of premature death: “it is been estimated that people who were physically active for approximately 7 hours a week have a 30 to 40% lower risk of dying early than those who are active less than 30 minutes per week” (Kohl & Murray 2012). It's clear that research has found the importance of avoiding inactivity and that even a little physical activity is better than none at all; due to dose response relation between poor health and the amount of physical activity.
The human body is a complex system that often malfunctions. Many people believe that numerous diseases are natural reflection of the body aging and cannot be avoided. The goal of my paper is to elaborate this perception and explain that maintain healthy and active lifestyle can result in healthy body.
Fitbit was founded in 2007 by James Park and Eric Friedman with the purpose of using wireless technology to improve a person’s fitness and health according to the About Us page in Fitbit.com. Fitbit would fall within the digital technology industry that focuses on improving health and wellness of individuals. I would also classify Fitbit as an Internet of Things (IoT) device because it is Internet-enabled and shares and captures data without human involvement. Fitbit’s competitive advantages include being the first to market with a wearable technology that is widely accepted by general consumers. Fitbit was able to increase their market share significantly due to their first-mover advantage. Another competitive advantage for Fitbit includes
Fitbit targets middle to higher class consumers, as their products range from around 50 to 150 US dollars per piece, a price affordable by most customers with this income level (fitbit.com).
On week days I tend to be in bed around 11:00pm and plan to be asleep by midnight. Falling asleep by midnight is usually accomplished on each weeknight, with an occasional late night study session. I am fortunate enough to be able to sleep later than I have been in past semesters. We have not had our usual 6:00am morning team lifting for crew and I do not have many early classes. It is not difficult for me to wake up once I hear my alarm in the morning. When I know I have something to complete or somewhere to be I am able to jump right out of bed and get ready. While filling out my Stanford Sleepiness rating times, I was able to give myself scores bet...
Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
Innovation taxonomies A type 1 innovation where, “a firm seeks to be unique in its industry along some dimensions that [buyers widely value]” (Porter, 1985, p14) gives Fitbit a competitive advantage by selling different tracker variants to different user groups; all based on its numerous strategic resources and value propositions. Fitbit’s product line helped to redistribute market share. After Fitbit’s Charge HR and Surge trackers started selling in December 2014 (Fitbit Inc, 2015), it still had the highest market share (in unit shipments) in 2014 and 2015 (Figure 1). Implication for 5 forces Fitbit’s increased product line can help it become more competitive by selling more trackers with different specialisations helping reduce the threat

I am glad to be forced to take a look at my personal health and to develop a plan for my future. For the last few years it has been a subject I chose to ignore. Faced with this assignment and the desire to do well on it, I am forced to take a hard look at myself and decide the next steps.
Over the past century we have become increasingly sedentary due to the technical advancements of today's world. Ironically, while machines and improvements in transportation and communication have made our lives easier, studies show that the decline in our physical activity associated with these advancements plays a large role in the decline of our health.
Food is one of the necessities of life in order to survive. Everyone has different views on what to eat and different eating habits. People are so busy in their everyday life that they don’t keep track of what they eat on a daily basis. However, it is important to understand the role of nutrition. Nutrition and exercise are vital to maintain physical health. Proper nutrition is required by our body for energy, growth, maintenance, and repair (Grodner, Roth, & Walkingshw, 2012). Even the brain requires nutrients in order for a person to be intellectually healthy. Along with nutrition, exercise can be controlled by an individual. Exercise helps to strengthen bones and muscles, control weight, improves mental health and mood, reduces risk for cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and some cancers, and overall increases the chances of living longer (CDC). For this assignment, I kept a food journal by tracking what I ate and the amount of exercise on a daily basis on a food tracker for three weeks. The purpose of that was to analyze my diet and exercise in more depth in order to determine the amount of vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates, and calories I am eating daily. Based on the results, I made some modifications.
Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world. Throughout this paper, we will
