Overall the final project and course will ultimately be beneficial to my development as an engineer. Up to this point in time, I haven’t had much exposure to a project quite to this scale. Nothing I did in highschool matches this experience, whether that be time put in, the level of intricacy, or the amount of planning. Previously, no matter what assignment I worked on, I never really took the time to set a foundation and usually just improvised as I went along. This project showed me the importance of having a clear goal and learning how to build on previous work, rather than just finishing it in one go. Another key component was cooperation, both as an engineer and as a person. I had a set friend group in high school, which meant the people I worked with never really differed. …show more content…
Within the tutorials, I didn’t really know anybody and groups changed from week to week until the final project. I had to learn how to talk and interact with several types of people within a new environment. This is especially important going forward at McMaster and into the future within the work force. Procrastination was also a large issue during my time in high school. This course taught me the importance of having a set schedule to maintain a healthy work ethic, prevent work from piling up and the importance of iteration. When you leave everything to the last minute, there’s no opportunity to improve. Instead, receiving feedback as you progress will ultimately increase the quality of anything you do, which is true both in academics and during designs. Finally, the final project gave me a taste of the design progress and fundamentally what it would be like as an
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
...t the last year of high school would be less agonizing without a laborious issue such as a Culminating Project, to attend to. Therefore, these points have been covered: what the project is, examples of different advocators of the project, and the different viewpoints of why it is useful verses why it is not. Hopefully, this can change the ideals and opinions of the administrators and enforcers of the Senior Project, to consider what a hindrance it is.
Reflection is a process of reviewing an experience of practice in order to describe, analyse, evaluate and to inform learning about practice. (Reid, 1999). The term “Reflection” was coined by (Schon, 1991) as an intrinsic capacity for self-awareness and a sense of self in the helping relationship. As a professional social worker, reflection expands that individual’s knowledge skills and abilities; it ensures that the social worker keeps abreast with evidence-based information that enhances that individual professional development within the field. Studies show that the process of engaging in critical reflection on learning and practice is integral in fostering a student and practitioner self-awareness in the field (Fook,
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
Even though my time in SlS has been only for six weeks I think that this course has truly benefited me because I have learn a great deal from all of the different speakers that have stepped into our classroom along from my professor and peer mentor . They each left me with a new perspective on how I should tackle my goals to be successful. I’ve learned that time management is key in order to get task and assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, proper note taking skills, how to work in groups and do presentations, stress management, financial decisions are also keys things that I have learned. Most importantly what I’ve gained out of this class is networking because its not about who you know its about who knows you. This stood out
I really learned a great deal of information from this course. A lot of the information helped me to understand myself as well as others. I must admit that I do see certain situations and circumstances a little different now. I understand some of the things my children are going through in life right now a little better. This course has really enlighten me about a lot things in my life at this point. I will use this same information to help me empathize and help my students as a school counselor. I will be able to recognize the types of developmental issues my students may be faced with and provide the correct intervention plan to help them succeed in academically.
Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. I had not taken any extra writing classes before this year rather than the mandatory ones. Like I had stated before, I hate writing, with a passion. I dread writing anything, especially an essay for school, like this one. I’m
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
In terms of Personal Development I feel that the course has helped me to develop the skills I need to improve my grades, and to build my confidence.
This course opened my eyes to the importance of dialogue in ways that I had not previously considered. I did not know in counseling you should only talk 30 percent of the time and that the remaining 70 percent should be the counselee’s time to talk. My typical counseling sessions in the past were about 50/50 dialogue. I thought that the counselee needed my opinion. A majority of my sessions included this amount of dialogue, which I am now understanding was not helpful to those people. Even though several people did have great results due to our sessions, they will looked to me in the future for more answers to various problems. This made the counseling relationship more dependent on my advice rather than them talking out their problem
Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
